Default My son wanted to experiment with a DM of Making despite not having Artificer...

One of the kids got into his head that he wants to try the Dragonmark of Making. No, none of us have Artificer.

    Oh, and heavy repeaters too.

    Oh well.

... oh, have to send a planner bug report, it dies when I try to export it with enhancements selected, but... anyone have any comments so far?

(It's for a LR+20, the +1 str tome is not essential but it's in the inventory already.)

Rogue mechanic get heavy rptr Prof as 3rd core ability, so can save a feat there.

6 ranger gets you iTWF and Manyshot. 4 is enough for Precise Shot.

Is DM for crafting bonus? If so can push the feat back to the end as gain more benefit for em the higher crafting levels you have.

12 rogue and the 4th core doesn't add a whole lot. Better to have 13 for extra rogue feat and +1d6 sneak die. or drop to 10 rogue, 6 fighter to pick up WS (+2 dmg) more kensai focus training enhancements, and 4 ranger for some easy sneak die and feats.

...well, no, that's the 4th core. 3rd only gets you light repeaters. This has been a known bug in Deadlock's PDF, see https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post5117835 .

Technically it'd also not need Finesse if taking the 3rd core from Tempest, which it could... at that point.

Annoying to level that far though, and it's for my youngest son who isn't likely to have patience for that.

And 3rd ranger cores. ITWF is useful - can't leave things with just ranged, after all.

Actually I'm not sure what he wants to do with it, but he was adamant about getting it early.

Well, except freeing up that one feat, yes, 12 rogue doesn't do much. Dropping the second fighter level for 13 (or 15) Rog would be what I'd do if I was the one playing it, probably. But then DM of Making isn't something I'd do myself at this point anyway, either.

Not that he's very likely to play this all the way to 20 anyway... and much less into epics. Can happen, but wouldn't bet on it.

4 Ranger would make more sense for a "pure" repeater build, yes.

Oh man, is there any chance you can talk your kid into taking a different DM? Making is pretty much useless if not a crafter or arty.

I would do 13/6/1; drop WF:R and probably Finesse (Dagger in the Back or Tempest is all you need). For leveling order, I suggest something like: rog 1, rgr 1-3, rog 2, rgr 4-6, ftr 1 (grab both Imp Crits @ lvl 9), rog 3-13. For rog bonus feats, my first picks are always Imp Evasion & Opportunist. Feat order: DM & PBS (1), hvy repeater (3), Rapid Reload (6), IC:R&S (9 + ftr), Precision (12), GTWF & IPS (15 & 18). Lvl 3 feat can be swapped for something else (e.g., Toughness) once you have Mechanic lvl 12.

I tried. Oh well, he should come around eventually... and it's just a game anyway.

(He does have aspirations of making it a crafter, actually.)

Yes, well, I'd do either 13/6/1 or 15/4/1 for my own use anyway (and my own experimental dragonmarked mechanic builds were discussed elsewhere already), or if I thought it likely that he'd actually keep playing this toon to 20 and/or epics.
