I'm currently playing a 9 druid/6 ranger/5 rogue and I'm having a lot of fun with sleet storm and ice storm and doing melee damage in the middle of it. (I've seen this is a pretty common tactic.)
For my next TR I'm thinking of doing something that can actually land DC based spells and boost up spell damage and healing capacity. For the last 10 lives this character has been drow. I'd like to stay that way, but its about the worse class possible for this build. Horc and dwarf and WF all are good melee with various boosts to con and/or str, but I can't make her that ugly... So I'd be willing to go so far as Helf or human or elf, but elf a -con without a bonus to any stat I actually want; thus human and helf seem better. I've further thought through the human bonus feet as being the deciding factor, but I'm not committed yet if someone has a compelling reason to do otherwise.
My initial thoughts on stats are:
16 str, wis and con (last 2 in int?) Well rounded for casting and melee and decent HP.
An alternative would be to boost Wis to 17 or 18 for better DC, but I'm not sure the one point will matter in levels 1-20. Thoughts?
8 feats available: 1,1,3,6,9,12,15,18
1- power attack
1- shield mastery (doublestrike 3%/prr 5)
9- natural fighting (doublestrike 6%)
12- imp crit bludgeon
15- impr shield mastery (double strike 5%(8%), PRR +5 (10total))
18- natural fighting (double strike 6%)
Drop both shield mastery feats and take natural fighting at 15. Total trade is: -10prr & -2 double strike to open up a feat.
The only damage mitigation on this build looks like PRR. Might find a ghostly item. Blur only comes on wands that are looted or could I scroll those? UMD...
Splashing 2 monk or 2 rogue would give evasion, but dex is low, so the benefit might not be very high. Monk would give two martial feats (allow me to rearrange and pick up empower/heal). Rogue would allow trapping if I boosted INT a bit. How serious is the loss of caster levels?
Does maximize provide enough boost to be a capable healer as a druid? With the swap of shield mastery feats I could get empower as well...
I really only plan to play from 1-20 and then TR again so epic feats and destiny synergy is not needed. Does a build like this work? Is it too much to ask to cast, melee and heal on one build? Should I just play another deep splash (pure melee build) to get the life?
Advice and reports on how caster druids work are appreciated. Thanks.
