Amossa d'Cannith, Sarlona, casually trying Completionist (12/14) [<o>]

I want DDO to be a better game. Those are my personal suggestions on: Ammunition, Archmage, Combat Stances, Deities, Dispel Magic, Epic Destiny Map, Fast Healing, Favor, Favored Enemy, Half-elf Enhancements, Monk Kensai, Monk Stances, Past Life, Potency, Potions, Ranger Spells, Summons, Tiered Loot.
Turbine sucked the fun out of the game when they stuck their hand in my pocket for shard change and then ruined the shardAH by flooding market with items that made named stuff near worthless.
Not the first time I mentioned this but it can be mentioned again. Then they created perhaps the worst grind system; ED off leveling. Where if you want to get a few twists or even to a better destiny you have to leveling some really bad off destinies. Sure - some fanbois will tell you that it's the only way you can 'earn' that feeling of doing it all by glossing over the fact that most people 'earned' or earn this by grinding the same fast quest over and over on EN or EH. So the earning is just some type of ritualistic mental seppuku where you better leave sanity safe and sound somewhere.
I bought a 4W max roll wonderous craftsmanship Bloodletter VIII Bastard sword for 66k plat... That's ******** even if it is a Bastard sword... That's how devalued the random loot is... I bought quite possibly the best Bastard sword on the entire Thelanis server for less than what an Icy Burst kit sells for.
Anyway off topic I know but seriously "flood the market" is an apt way to put it.
100 +100% is double but another +100% is only 50% because I'm comparing it to the new total of 200 to make the second +100% seem smaller; this message brought to you by Extreme Math Bro's the bookkeeping Division of Brawndo
Remember when players used to have multiple endgame-ready characters?
Oh for the days when I could bring a divine, a caster, a bard, a trapskilled evasion melee, a tank or a joke build to a raid - whichever the situation called for.
I don't think anyone could have endgame ready versions of all of those builds within a year now if they played the game as though it was a full time job.
I don't have a zerging problem.
I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
No.... must .... resist ....urge...to ...tr....
Back on topic.
Why bother to grind ED's?
Maybe to get better saves? because the requirements are too high for pure builds?
Maybe to get self healing (coccoon/healing sping) on a non self healing toon? because the lfm's are dead and noone is aplying?--> so no heals/cc whatever
Maybe to get some more dps because mob hp has gotten out of hand?
Maybe to get Energy sheet to withstand the reaver, or face getting left out the next run?
Maybe to gain a better stun DC? mobs saves are ridiculous?
Maybe to Emulate stuff from other classes because the lfm is dead, the game is bleeding people.....
All i see up in the lfm these last few weeks is the 3X a week shroud, and von 3 runs, apparently the ED grind is down to a handfull of fast Exp quests a day. Usualy run twice a day are:
Von 3 EN,
Lords of the dust again EN,
1 to 2 hours of running low difficulty fast exp quests like these. every day!
A few still runn EE's on the server, for bragging rights.
Some were prepping for the next stop on the tr train, holding of untill mabar hits.
Others went ahead after hearing that the +6 tomes got removed.
The OP might be a tad bit late to bring this up, but (s)he's not the first to do so.

Agree with the OP 100%.
I'm not going to spend time grinding EDs that are not synergistic with my character class. I have done a few stints of Rusted Blades to get an ED point or two, but it's not my thing. My solution is twofold:
1) Don't grind, play. Just run quests off ED and let the XP come in eventually. This may require multiple alts for variety and guildies willing to run raids even while off ED. It works very nicely now that the XP decay is gone. I just run a couple raids a week on my main and the XP keeps rolling in slow but steady.
2) Combine levelling EDs with TRing. I capped Magister and DI on my wizard, and hated every minute of Fatesinger. I TR'd him to a bard, so next time I run epics it will be more fun and motivating.
I also don't like much if any of the Forgotten Realms content, but that's a matter of taste.
All of my toons seems to be either 12/6/2 fighter/monk/arti (fighter PL), or 9/9/2 [past life]/monk/arti. (Slight variation for a few lives, but all still in dreadnought/fury)
So, what do I do? None of my toons have any use for fatesinger, DI, magister, EA or whatever that divine tank one's called. Sentinel?
My epic runs seem to be a constant bombardment of stunning things, blitzing things, then stunning other things.
I guess my big question is: if a person doesn't like to grind for EDs (or whatever else), then why do it? This is not to say that grinding EDs is playing wrong, but if the game isn't fun that way, there are other ways to do it.
This is my thought every time I see stuff posted here by people complaining, basically, about how they are playing the game. This isn't an issue of the game itself. Players are imposing this non-funness upon themselves, and then complaining that Turbine should somehow change it so that it's fun.
there are slow workarounds like previous commenter suggested: TR and plan your lives to go with the destinies.. Thats what i did but would prefer not to of course.
The 995 key of destiny is quite expensive. I would buy it for 495 though, as I did on the sale..
I don't have a zerging problem.
I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
u don't like playing other thing that monks, but suck it and keep doing the 9-9-2 because U WANT the completionist feat, nothing like it's needed or worths the effort/time lol
now you have the right same trouble with ED, u want em all, but don't wanna suck at this rate? or wanna farm til eyes bleed 1 quest?
the trouble i see with ppl who plays like u(there're a lot in this post like u could imagine) is that u're playing something closer to wow than to ddo, but hey, u wanna have all the benefits that are specially thought to add variety while players add to monotony
turbine made 2 big mistakes:
- 1st allow getting pl in a class while not being pure
- 2nd allowing repeat penalty stop at 25
removing these 2 things, there would be much clever players in ddo and less ppl complaining because they have to put some effort to get what they want(nothing compared with grinding gear btw)
would be so happy if ED would get wiped in next update, at least would have something to do at epic lvl, now only can farm tokens because "i'm awesome because i'm using that ED with that twists" applies to every build, no matter how gimp it is, another mistake from turbine, removing variety looks their objective
psykopeta - hoarding pl, for the sake of hoarding, the day i become ubercompletionist will be because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS i'm not a pro, maybe if i reincarnate in RL...
I'm a completionist by nature - I finish what I start. I finish whatever I'm doing at the end of a working day - even if that takes an hour, which I'm not paid for. This is no different. I just enjoy monks more than most classes. (If it can self hjealz or instakill, I'll keep it pretty much pure - aside from sorc/wizards. I just don't like them)
I don't have an issue with ED's, I was trying to be funny, while pointing out a hole in whatever comment I replied to - not every destiny has a class you enjoy playing.
You don't quite know how I play, nor what I play, aside from that post. If I told you I've done one 9/9/2 life, would you look slightly silly now?
Yes, you would. Fighter is just a boring life to level.
The first "mistake" turbine made? No. I will not level a pure barbarian, what the heck? That's either forcing me to play with a hireling or wait for a hjealzer. I don't quite think either is viable. One is just bad, the other takes hours to find. BYOH is the meta. Forcing us to play a pure would cause more monotony, not less.
The second? Yes, that was a mistake. However, they did what they could. Only having X amount of epic xp per life would be silly - some people don't want to TR. Current system addresses that, though I dislike the increased repetition penalty.
Hah, you think grinding gear is hard now? Nothing worth grinding, just hoping for the lucky lootgen drop. What removing those two things would do? Removing #1, aka forcing us to play pures for pastlives, would create a more role-orientated, less versatile game. You dislike that. It wouldn't make players more imaginative, clever or anything else. It'd just make barb life even more painful for no gain. #2 was removed in u19.
Yeah, removing variety through giving us destinies, then things to twist. Those add variety - people choosing to build the best builds for EE removes it.
Solution? I don't have one. If all builds are equal, no point playing.
If people want the hardest difficulty without the best builds, then the best builds are irrelevant - no point playing.
