Default How to Fix legacy Epic Items

The old epic items (pre U14) that require a heroic base item, a scroll, shard, and seal to upgrade are mostly a joke at this point in the game. Not only are they underwhelming, they are a LOT harder to get than almost anything else in the game. They'd be even harder if players weren't so willing to give up shards or seals to anyone willing to fill their bags with the ****.

    I propose the following overhaul:

    1. Maintain the 4 piece upgrade requirement. Perhaps even include it for some items in newer content.
    2. Update the old stuff with new MLs corresponding to that of the quest they come from. eg. Epic Antique Great Axe would remain ML20, where as Epic Bracers of the Claw would be ML 21, and Epic Torc would be ML22. (The Epic quests they are from are those levels.)
    3. Overhaul the old stuff so that it is worthy of named items of their new MLs--maybe even a bump since they're so scarce.
    4. Allow players to use the stone of change to change their old epics for the new.
Cilon can be found on Orien.

Most of them, yes, quite underwhelming. Quite a few of them are out-done by nearly-free commendation gear.

Yes...and? Here I was expecting you to have a proposal on "How to Fix legacy Epic Items"...but you've just said they should fix them, without saying how.

Actually overhauling those items, while I agree it should be done, will take a lot of development work. A more concrete proposal will likely be more helpful.

I say this in every one of these threads.

Take one component of each item (like a stat) and turn it into a pre-filled slot. Do it for the things that are ML20 equivalents, etc.

So, remove STR+6 from the Gloves of the Claw. Add a colorless slot, prefilled w/ STR 6.

You could follow this model with nearly every item and have some way to keep things relevant.

They need to start allowing coms to drop in all epic raids, then allow us to upgrade the stat values on old raid gear to modern stat values with coms. In one fell swoop the raid scene would be rejuvinated. People who farmed for claw sets, DQ gear, and chrono sets would be able to upgrade their +6/+7 stats to +10/+11 with coms, and every single epic raid would get run regularly again.

This sounds like the simplest way to fix the most problems all at once, which of course means that Turbine won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Many items are outdated simply because the stats are outdated. The "special" abilities for the most part are still fine on items that have them. I'd be more interested in the Abashi set if the stats could be 9 or 10. The number of slots on the set was and still is quite reasonable.

As much as people go on about 11 being the new benchmark, that's not the easiest thing to slot in and certainly not in more than a couple of slots with a ton of farming. Other than the named gloves, +11 stat items are extremely rare and are not likely to come with any slots (if it's on current high end loot gen). At least in my experience, +11 stats are for ultra min/maxers and theory builds right now, unless you want +11 int from the gloves.

I would like to see Epic/Epic Hard/Epic Elite items implemented. Then just use Scroll/Seal/Shards to do upgrades.
(ex. Heroic Item + Scroll = Epic item; Epic Item + Seal or Shard = Epic Hard Item; Epic hard Item + Shard = Epic Elite item.)
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • NEW - Fix the flipping non-proficiency penalties for wildshape!
    • Redo the Favor rewards so there is a reason to do max favor again.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.
    • Task Lynnabel with updating the remaining legacy named loot to not suck.
    • Tiering the Runearms so that artificers aren’t screwed out of the advantages of Cannith Crafting in Epic levels on their signature item.
    • Finishing the enhancement tree passes (including racial PrE’s) before rolling out yet another DDOStore™ Enhancement Tree.

I had a thought about old epics this weekend:

Kill the seals/shards/scrolls. It would be reasonable if you only had to hunt through the 5 potentially useful (for that toon) Sands items. It's not that great when it's a bajilion items.

Convert all epic ingredients people have to generic ones. I.E., Seal of the Sting becomes Seal of the Demon Sands. Put up a turn in, 3-for-1, just like desert scrolls. Sound like too much? This just means that someone with 30 desert seals, 30 desert scrolls, and 30 desert shards (think of how much running that is, even now) can now make 10 desert items of their choice, instead of making every worthless explorer item twice.

Make the items drop fully made in chest, in the quests they fall from in Heroic. For desert explorer items, Epic the Desert like Epic Ruins of Gianthold! If you need time to work on that, make them drop from the nearest quest on Epic in the meantime.

The current versions of items can become the EN/EH/EE version of the item. You can work on a few items a time this way (for examxple, next update would include full epic difficulty versions of an assortment of items from across all epic packs). In the meantime, every difficulty drops the original epic version. A little annoying, but you would earn a lot of player goodwill from doing the previous three things.
