Default Maxwell guide to Half Elf style of life

Hello, my name is Maxweld Cox your Bardly friend.
You maybe know me better from "Who is that in Shroud" or "Singing with the kobold".

But today we arent speaking about me. Today i try to help all the Half Elf out there that they dont know what to do.

The first you have to know, its you can be anyhing! Your diletante its your key.
You can say "Dile what? or Yes with peperoni please" But the dile can change all in your way.
You are a Half-Elf, You dont only have pointed ears, and the chicks smile and blink an eye to you. You are the Best for multiclassing!

Want to be AA and dont want to take ranger lvls? Well your Half blood allows you, then you can pick 20 lvls in fighter, and diletante in rouge and you have a kensai AA with sneak attack.

If you take 10 mins you can think in a variety of paths to choose, like my friend Averbar, who wants to be allways bard with something else, in this case with barbarian, he say is really fun, he buff himself and kill really fast. And off course, cast Sphere of dancing, do the ladies can go and dance with him ;-)

    Lets take a look

One change can be done here is switch the warchanter for spellsinger, so the ravager can take advantage in the helpless foes.

Remember the most important thing you can do, its getting fun. You are a Half Elf, you are charismatic, You can use a hat (allways have a hat, its looks cool in you head) and smile and dance, and broke the hearts of the ladies =P

Oh man, its hard to comment your builds ...

With your first build i have idea what you have wanted achieve (i hope), but few things here:
    - why fighter dilletante ? just for +2 weapon damage ? You have highier charisma, so i would take paladin dilletante for saves
    - why spellcraft ? Looks like you will not be caster and still only 7 bard levels. Is it just for Ruin ? Ruin is 75 spell point. Not sure, that it will be usefull with your number of spell points
    - in racial tree i would go for Improved Recovery enhancements. I guess, you will heal yourself with scrolls, so better healing amplification would be nice to have. For sure better than +2 damage from fighter dilletante
    - you wrote something about casting "Sphere of dancing". With 7 bard levels you will not have that spell and your DC wouldnt be high too, even if you would have that spell
    - if your really want to go with fighter dilletante, i would pick "Stunning blow" feat, remove greater str epic feat and take two handed fighting line later. Then with Master Tactics enhancement you would have better chance for stun enemies. Little crowd control is not bad to have

While in your first build i see any concept, with second build i am confused. What is idea of this build ? Should it be melee dps ? Probably yes, but:
    - 14/6 is strange multiclass for me. Why ? 12/8 probably would be better. Or 12 fighter / 8 monk even better (see later). But it would be probably much more different build from yours
    - 8 str is too low for melee dps. You have maybe wanted make dex focused dps, but its really not your build
    - you have high dex and wisdom. It would be good in another build, but not in this build. Why ? See next points
    - you have picked "Weapon finesse". Its good for chance to hit from dexterity (only for light weapons and unarmed). But your damage modifier is still from str, 8 basic str ...
    - i have no idea what type of weapon you want to use. You have picked "Whirling Steel Strike", so i guess, you want use longsword and stay centered. But weapon finesse will not apply on long swords and for both attack and damage you need STR. If you want use shortswords, you dont need extra feat (whirling steel strike) and you can have proficiency, damage and attack with DEX just from ninja spy tree. If you really want use longswords, i would go 12 fighter, save two feats (whirling steel strike, weapon focus:slashing) and with "One with the blade enhancement from Kensai tree you can use longswords and be centered
    - you have "Stunning fist" feat and highier wisdom, what is nice. Will you permanently change from fist for stun and then back to weapons ? Because with low STR your unarmed damage will be low
    - you have "Vorpal strikes" feat, but its only for unarmed. Again, will you use fists or weapons. Looks like you invested "Improved critical: Bludgeoning" just for Vorpal strikes, but have picked Whirling steel strike too, but without Improved critical:Slashing.
    - you shoudl really make decision, what type of weapon you want use or what style of melee dps you want to play, because your enhancements are mixed too, unarmed + weapon bonuses
    - one more thing, self healing. How do you want heal yourself ? You dont have UMD, and healing abilities only from monk. I am not sure, that its enough. Again i dont understand your Barbarian dilletante feat. Its only few more hit points. With your high wisdom i would go cleric dilletante instead for self heal

I hope, that i am not too rude with my comments . If yes, sorry.

    Rude? Not at all!!
I never use a monk and i see for what hehehe, i have to think it better, Firts i say, using 2 weapons, like kukrys and shortwords.
Then i see the vorpal strikes have the Bludgeoning prerequisite, so i think (and sure im mistake) All the attack of monk count as unarmed/monk weapon. So the vorpal works for unarmed and monk weapons?
I need to take a better look at this build.

For the bard/barb the dile give proficience with weapons, and the + damage, its little but its working (im actually playing this character)
In racial tree im thinking in put some point in the healing amp =) and for now im healing my self from wands and scrolls.
About the "Sphere Dancing" it was only a comment, for a variation in the build, not something im going to do for now =P
Spellcraft gives a little spellpower, helps with the heal and with perform to sonic damage. Maybe not the best choice, but i have skills points to expend =P

I know the Dillies are expensives

Default DEX based Monk / Fighter

Vorpal strikes works only for unarmed fighting http://ddowiki.com/page/Vorpal_Strikes. Not for monk weapons.

If you still want play DEX base monk / fighter, here is my suggestion:
Stay with high dexterity and 2 weapons, but forget about longswords and unarmed. So you can drop feats: Whirling Steel Strike, Weapon Focus: Slashing, Improved Critical: Bludgeoning, Vorpal Strikes. And when you will use shortswords (probably the best weapon for DEX based fighter / monk), you can drop "Weapon Finesse" too, because you will get attack and damage from DEX with core ninja spy tree enhancements http://ddowiki.com/page/Ninja_Spy_enhancements. With shorstwords you want take Improved Critical: Piercing.

Other weapons like kukri are out, because you will be uncentered and you will not want it . Or you can go 12 fighter / 8 monk, invest deeply in kensai tree http://ddowiki.com/page/Kensei_enhancements and use others weapons too, while centered. But i would stay with shortswords.

And what about barbarian dilletante ? Just drop it and take cleric dilletante instead for self healing with scrolls. Except you will permanently play in party with healer, or you will use healing hireling. But still is good to have self heal.

For you class enhancements i would mix ninja spy, shintao and kensai trees. I really dont want to make full list of enhancements, stats and skills for you here. Its your build and you should make it at your own. I only can make few suggestions and correct mistakes.

    Default Barbarian / Bard

You dont need fighter dilletante for weapon proficiency. You will get it as barbarian already. And till you will get barbarian (first 3 levels), you can cast Master's Touch and use any martial weapon you want. But for first 3 levels you really dont need something special (you can use rapiers, longswords) and at lvl 4 when you take barbarian you will have proficiency for martial weapons.

So its "only" +2 damage, compared with +5 to all saves from paladin dilletante. Its not "critical" difference, but personally i would take paladin .

Spellcraft does not increase positive spell power (for healing) and does not increase sonic spell power http://ddowiki.com/page/Spellcraft. For positive (negative) spell power is "Heal skill". But its not a bard class skill, so you can raise it only to rank 11. I am not sure that its wort it, even with items + heal skill. You still dont have any heal spell in your spell list and for scrolls and wands you need "Wand and scroll mastery" enhancement (tier 2 in Spellsinger tree).

For sonic spell power is Perform skill, as you wrote. But you have only one sonic spell in your list - Sounburst and its more crowd control spell, than damage spell. But you need perform for bard songs and possibly little crowd control, so its ok to take it.

Btw, i like half-elves too. I dont care that dilletante is ap expensive. Not all characters have to be min-maxers focused on Epic Elite difficulty. Much more important is have fun and enjoy the game. And if i have fun with my "gimped" character, i dont care, that he is not viable for EE. I just like half-elves for their variability.

Today will see a combination with Bard and Sorcerer. This time the idea that have Hunnerd was being a Bard and a sorcerer, focusing in the air path. With his high charisma to help his work.
The bard has bonus to that kind of spells. He says his testing was succefull. lets see and we will wait for your opionions!!!

    Hi,

I might be missing something as I've been away from DDO a while, but multiclassing caster classes doesn't work unless you are focusing on spell power and non-DC spells. With 13 sorc levels your max caster level is 6 for sorc spells, which probably makes it hard to land your spells and SLAs. At 18 sorc levels you'd have max caster level 9, which applies to all lower level spells and to SLAs when using the heighten feat.

Can't say anything about viability of a multiclassed casters, because that depends a lot on the driver. However, 13th level sorcerer has a default caster level of 13. What you probably meant is that they can only cast 6th level spells. Likewise 18th level sorcerer will count as a 18th level caster able to cast ninth level spells.

Its a fact, that mixing casters clases will produce the lost of spells a/o spell caster levers

But not for that a multiclassing caster, will be a bad toon, If this class works or not its something we can discusss, you can tellme your bard/sorc sucks, and that can be true =D but it can be fun too.

Ohh man again ... I am really not sure about you. Maybe you are just joking with us or you are trying to do the worst possible builds .

Do you want play this character as bard, or sorcerer ? I dont see much synergy, except that both classes use charisma for spells and few spell singers songs can help arcane caster. But ... !

Building sorcerer with just one metamagic feat (Empower) is really bad. Your damage will be low, badly low. You can have really nice spell like abilities (and you have picked them) as sorcerer. You should take as minimum these feats: Maximize, Empover (alredy have), Heighten. Without Maximize your damage will be low and without Heighten your DC will low (= much less damage). Still even with heighten your max spell level is lower than pure sorcerer (-3 DC). As air savant, most your spells are reflex based, so its even worse. You will see a lot of saves (= lower damage).

Do you know, that you can use metamagic feats for your spell like abilities without highier mana cost ? They are really cheap. You will mostly use your spell like abilities enhanced with metamagics, not your "real" spells. So you dont need extra amount of mana = you dont need Mental Toughness feat line (i know, its +some crit, but still not worth it, there are more important feats). You dont need Combat Casting. You have trained Concentration skill and you will mostly use spell like abilities and you can cast them without interrupt.

Your caster level is low, so i think, that Spell Penetration feat line what you take is useless. With this build you cant seriously land any crowd control spell. And for your spell like abilities you dont need spell penetration.

As you can see from above, you should change a lot in your build. My advice is, if you want play sorcerer for arcane damage, forget about bard and play sorcerer. If you want play bard, than play bard. But dont mix it, it will not works good.

Quick question based on the above post. Does heighten affect the saves of damaging (AOE) spells? Like fireball, lightning, etc?

yes it does It brings the save dc up to the highest spell level that you can cast in that casting class so the post you were responding to is right about 3 dc less
The worst problem on the DDO forums right now

Im a Bard so it its a posibility but, this is not the case, a joke will have something like "Bazinga!! you fell for another of my jokes" but im not joking =D
About the builds I post, some are mines, some of my friends, and they are for real. Maybe they are joking with me (?) =D
It came to my mind "Are you sure about this? - Well im not sure, lets see if they want to burn me alive" =D

And yes, i have that conversation in my mind =P

When my friend tell me, why not bard with an arcane. I say "mix a spellcaster, its not good, you will loose spell power, spell points and spells" But hes geting fun with that abomination =P.
So I think why not to post his rare build? My bard/Barbarian its working good, even with all his flat points.

I have a pure wizard in his second live, and the metamagic feats dont do nothing with the spell like abilities, it only works for spells. But I agree that the build has too much to improve.

Givme a few days and I bring a ranger/barbarian with bond weapon and many shoot =D

Barbarian / ranger build coud be good. I have got similar plan for my barbarian past life .

Metamagic feats really work for spell like abilities. Not all metamagics for all abilities (for example heighten not on no DC based spells or Maximize not on no damage spells). If it doesnt work for you, looks like you are doing something wrong. When you right click on spell like ability, nothing appears ? You have to have right meta feat learned of course.
