    Default Vorpal Strikes Mechanics Question

    I knew that once upon a time the feat Vorpal Strikes was 100% broken but has since been fixed to some extent. What does this feat currently do?

    1.) Is the inclusion of slashing type damage to unarmed attacks working?

    2.) Does this provide the .5[W] increase included in current weapons with the vorpal property?

    3.) Does this really destroy things when you roll a 20 for mobs under the hp kill mark for vorpal?

    4.) Does this apply the 100 untyped damage on rolls of 20 for mobs above the hp kill mark for vorpal?

    5.) Does taking this feat break your character in any ridiculous and/or unexpected way(s)?


    Playing this game has taught me that you never EVER take Turbine's word for how things work in game and that the player base knows way more about what's really going on in terms of mechanics and game play. I would appreciate any answers people can give regarding this feat and if Turbine has stated if any of the properties of Vorpal Strikes have been declared as "working as intended."

    2) No.
    3) Yes.
    4) Yes.
    5) Not that I know of.

    It really depends on what you mean by "working".

    Will your unarmed attacks bypass slashing DR (e.g. zombies)? Yes, they will. Btw, the feat is a toggle, not a passive feat, so you will need to toggle it ON/OFF, as needed.

    Will your unarmed attacks qualify for abilities which require slashing weapons, such as a lot of stuff in the Ninja tree? Nop.

    Thanks for responding. Has any of this been declared as "working as intended?"

    EDIT: The toggle part of it seems kinda dumb to me, but I can live with another power attack that Turbine refuses to change to always stay on like meta magics.

    As far as I know, the response to Vorpal Strike not working with Ninja Spy has been a lot of silence so far. No WAI, or "Huh, that's odd, it should be working."

    It adding Slashing to your attacks, however, is, because it's rather hard to snicker snack with a blunt object.

    I'm not sure, but I thought I'd read a comment somewhere to the effect that the slashing effect not enabling ninja spy abilities is WAI, as it is only supposed to work with weapons, not unarmed abilities. I could be wrong on this though. I also thought that the .5w was being added last time I took it. But I'm at work at the moment and can't check.

    Unless they've changed it in the last week and a half since I TR'd, it doesn't add the extra 0.5W. Everything else works as it should with the exception of enabling some of the ninja spy stuff (which may indeed be wai - no dev comment one way or another that I know of).

    I can't confirm the .5W, but can confirm that Ninja Spy's granted abiility to use Dex to hit and dmg on slashing weapons does not work with Vorpal Strike Handwraps. I just dumped STR and found out the hard way. I would like to know if this is a bug or WAI. If WAI, I can swap back now.

    back on lam when it first came out they said they would look into getting it to work, but have been no mention of it since. and since they went and said handwraps arent melee weapons (their reason why handwraps dont work with the assassin's knife in the back enhancement), im not holding my breath for this getting fixed anytime soon.

    It was originally a bug, but since they couldn't work out how to fix it, it is now WAI.

    Not a bug ever, since it now has been explicitly cut out of use with weapons such as sireth and ivy wraps and brawlers gloves. Previously, it worked fine with those. U20 undoes that working.
