I keep at least one page free, and two if I can manage it. Which I can't at later levels, but when running TR I generally find this possible.

I have 7 inventory slots free on my caster and 6 on the rogue.

On most of my toons, I have around 35 free spots. On my barb, who always runs with a static group and couple healing hires, I have three whole tabs open at all times. My wizard is the worst, at right around 25 tabs, and he just hit 10 on his second life, so I hate to see how that's going to end up.

Keep in mind, I haven't bought the 6th slot on any of my toons...probably because it isn't account wide *hint hint*

    Here's how I organize:

5th box- bags, spell components, xp pots/loot gems (5 to 17 open slots)

4th box- pots/scrolls/the occasional wand (5 to 10 open slots)

3rd box- clickies and swap gear (10 to 15 open slots)

1st box- thieves tools, weapons (2 to 12 open slots)

1 and 3 fill more on melee and thieves, 4 and 5 on casters, and I keep box 2 empty. That leaves in the neighborhood of 50-60 open slots for loot on the less 'everything and the kitchen sink' types- monks, etc. 40-50 on my better-geared casters. Arties/Bards/Rogues tend to 40ish, particularly Arties, between weapon sets and scrolls.

I also tend to keep things minimal, with as little as I can get away with at my level range without sacrificing utility.

I try to keep 20 to 30 open, but sometimes it is really hard. I once had 45 open after some tough <3 decisions, but that didn't last long.

20 minimum, and preferably 25-30 (or more) when I am out adventuring... when I am full I know its time to head back to town for a break.

with 30 chars all played equal (almost) all share the same setups, both in UI and inventory

Keep page 2 clean - its for incoming stuff to be sorted later
Page 1 : weapons wands - Things that go into hands - scrolls in stacks ...
page 3-4 hirelings, bags quest items special goodies, some w many potions carry heal potions here. armors
page 4-5 : items and accesories, mule job burdens if not in bank
page 5-6 (or last if less) : pots, spell components
