Default Shadar-Kai Mob Dizzying spiked chain in need of a nerf

    Level 15 Normal Quest

(Combat): You attempt to save versus dizzying spiked chain. You roll a 19 (+19): save failure!
(Combat): You are hit by shadar-kai assassin's dizzying spiked chain.
(Combat): The formidable weapon distracts and cripples your combat tactics.

    -10% Weapon Damage per stack
    -5% Attack Speed per stack
    -2 Concentration per stack
    Stacks up to 8 times

DC 38 What are they feeding the Shadar Kai?

Assuming it's DC 10+ Dex Mod + Character Level, that leaves the Shadar Kai with a Dex of 36 minimum?

    Something is seriously wrong here...

Not to mention I don't see that ability anywhere on the Iconic Enhancements...

They seem fine to me. Nice to have a mob that at times you can't just stand there and whack to death with impunity.

Keep this in mind. When that chain is swinging they cannot move. If they are moving they cannot swing the chain.

In combat it is best to play to your advantage and not to theirs. So far I have only one character in my arsenal that can go toe-to-toe with Epic versions. However, I still would not risk it against the Named versions, especially when it is simpler to move out of range and force them to stop swinging.

The assassins are still stupid. I'm sorry a rogue swinging a chain hitting harder than the EE LOB is just plain dumb.

Doesn't mean they aren't easily dispatched with cheese (what some people call "tactics") but it's still dumb.

I gotta ask . . . has anyone beaten EE Thrill of the Hunt without cheesing the end fight?

That sounds about right actually. That's about what we'd have if we went the dex for damage and hit route.

    18 base
    6 stat
    4 level ups
    3 lets say enhancments
    5 tome

36 dex, perfectly normal to have

At level fifteen you could be wearing a +8 item now, so You would only nee +1 from enhancements and we could easily get that number higher ourselves.

    Default 30

I have no tomes (yet) for my Shadar, but out the gate at L15 I started with 30 DEX with stock gear and enhancements.

was assuming that 38 was it on elite and that the 15 on normal was a way of stating the base of the quest. I don't play anything other than elite in heroics unless it's being farmed so.......

Not sure what you mean by cheesing it...

EE Thrill is one of my favorite quests so far, completed 5-6 times on EE...each time getting better with last 4 utilizing no resources from casters or recalls for outside shrine. Still too many deaths for our liking, think our lowest so far has been 18. Pretty sure you were in one of em.

Shadar Kai don't bother me too much...when they start swinging their chain i just get the hell away, but I do hate that gawd awful purple effect when the shadowvars pop. Turbine needs to tone it down a bit

For context, elite crucible traps have a DC40, meaning you need a 38 reflex save to fail only on a 1. So, same ballpark.

I don't have Elite unlocked yet as I've not been running the new quests often, and I was on a first life Monk character.

It should also be noted that it wasn't even from a named mob, just a general Shadar-Kai Assassin.

When they seem to pretty much spam it, come at you in 2's or 3's and the debuff hits you before the chain swinging animation starts, those stacks can build up remarkably quickly...

Not to mention Kamikaze hirelings, who refuse to back off from them...

If it was elite I wouldn't have posted

Sorry Should have been level 16 Normal, Apologies.

I think you're thinking "What Goes Up" and yes I was in a few of the good runs with you guys. Thrill of the Hunt is the one with the red-named assassin and dogs in cages that release with insta-red alert.

I have a very liberal definition of cheese. Perching, kiting, basically doing anything you wouldn't be able to do if the encounter were controlled by a human DM is cheese.

With that said, I'm not above using it to beat a stupidly designed encounter.

And yes, the "purple haze" is ridiculous.

opps my bad, yea.....it wouldn't bother me to not perch...but when standard mobs spawn and cause red DA that's a broken mechanic in the game. If an event causes 20 mobs to spawn...those mobs should not raise DA, especially when everything else is dead.

They are indeed very over-powered. One of the more egregious examples of poor monster design on the part of the devs. And that's not including the fact that the spiked chain should be available to anyone willing to drop the feat on it.

Those quests have higher DCs to traps, saves, spells, infi mobs than others at that range. I feel like, Turbine just has a dart board with "probably not, Nope, and Never" as the only targets for DCs. They kinda gather around it, blindfold you then make you throw the dart at it for kicks see where it lands each update. The DC for the floor blade traps in Monastery of the Scorpion on elite were over 54 last night. Failed it on a 2(+52)
