    Default Past Life Feat question

So, I am still pretty far away from being able to do my first TR (level 13 wizard), but I was looking at the past life feats and had a couple questions.

First, I am not sure I completely understand the wizard feat. The wiki says " Each time you acquire this feat you gain +2 to spell penetration checks and the DC's of Wands you use". My question is the +2 spell penetration for all spells and for wands or is this only an enhancement to wands? If it is just wands I am not sure how much I like this feat.

That leads me to my second question. I have the lv20 heart from the last patch. Could I go to level 20 as a wizard then reset my characters levels to some other class that I feel has a better past life? For example could I change my character to a level 20 Paladin and then wait the week and TR?

The +2 to spell pen is for all spells, not just wands... It's a VERY good past-life feat... The active feat gives you +1 to all DCs, and 10 free magic missiles... Also a VERY good feat.

Yes, you can save your LR+20, and use it to get whatever past-life feat you want, but there's not much better past-life feat for a wizard than wizard. Also, the LRs are on a different timer than the TRs, so I'm pretty sure you don't have to wait a week.

I can confirm this. I used the +20 LR to switch my 20 Monk into an 11 Paladin/9 Monk and TR'ed within minutes.

If you're curious about why 11 Pally/9Monk, I wanted to try out the build for next life for another Pally Past Life. I love Healing Amp.

Thank you! I actually really like this feat then, since I was going to TR into a wizard again I think as I really like the class. The +2 to spell penetration will be great for my holds/charms.

Unless you think there is a better past life feat to take for a wizard I will probably stay with it. 10 HP seems like a minor benefit, +5% healing amplification is good, but I play as a human so I have that pretty covered.

Your first wizard past life is going to be a sure fire asset if you enjoy magic-wielding characters of any type, because the feat it allows you to purchase is extraordinarily good for anyone who cares about the DCs of their spells. You can't go wrong there.

The automatic past life feat for the wizard is more of a specialist interest. If you like enchantment spells, as you seem to indicate, then it's excellent too: but for characters like sorcerers, who tend to focus on evocation or conjuration, it's largely wasted because those sorts of spells don't allow spell resistance anyway.

In short, your first wizard past life is an ideal pick if you want to play wizard again. Whether you'll want to LR +20 [I]that/I] life into something different should you decide to keep on TRing will deserve more consideration when the time comes.

In general terms, I personally think the best past life feat is actually the Ranger's - stacking elemental resistances are a very good thing - but I wouldn't let that deter you from taking wizard on a future wizard as your first move.

Wizard PLF is awesome! I wish I had it on any and all of my caster characters. It's way better than pally past life. My advice, if your going to tr this character into any type of caster, then keep the plf of wizard.
