Default A new players view...LOVIN IT!

    Howfy yall,

I have been trolli...err reading the boards since i started playing this game on Aug 16th. I wanted to provide my views from the outside. I have read alot of the usual...broke please fix, iconics kill the future, tp pts are bad, i need help with build, devs please respond...etc posts. I have also seen some wonderful and insightful posts.

My background: I came over from a game that will not be named (lets just say it ceased to wow me after 7 years). I recalled DDO from the 4 months I played back when you had to actually buy the game itself at launch, and found it lack luster back then. Since then....OMG complete difference.

I consider myself a decent player, definately not a power gamer but solid. I went ahead and read a bunch of reviews about F2P, VIP and Premium. I went ahead and decided based on how I like to play games to go ahead and take a package that was offered that included:Shadowfell, 20k turbine pts, and then added VIP onto that. I am definately one of those people who signed up as an iconic with no gear, basic understanding of the game and no clue of the direction to take.

Lets just say the 1st 5 days were a little frustrating. I had a knack for the game, but there was no clear direction and so much of it is not explained through anything but player resources. I came to the forms and asked for help. Let me just say, the response was astounding. I met someone that I have been questing with more often then not, I learned how to eek the most out of my chosen build, I learned how to move through quests, and how to better slot my gear (although that is still a serious work in progress-I purposfully have empty slots to remind myuself to look for upgrades becuase of stacking conflicts)

I believe that in less than a month I have gone from barely understanding how to play a wizard to being able o navigate most quests 2-3 lvls above mine. I have found the resources and connections that are allowing me to truly enjoy the game.

based on my experience I believe the iconics, veterans, stones, etc are a great thing for the life of the game becasue the player base is so willing as a whole to embrace new players that are upfront about their needs and expectations.

Thank you all, I am truly loving this game.

Now if they would just give us iconic tr's so I can change this gastly face on my toon.....hooray for wraith form hiding features.

DDO has long been one of my favorite mmos. No other game can really capture the "dungeon crawling" feeling of D&D like it does. Lots of other games have dungeons, obviously, but they don't have the combination of traps, secret doors, puzzles, and the like that give DDO's a unique feeling/flavor.

I'd love it if they went back and revisited a lot of the old wilderness areas, doing the "randomized encounter" thing with them as well, maybe enlarging a few of them, adding a couple more dungeons, etc.

I'd love to see a randomized-puzzle dungeon, as well. That would be pretty cool. Or Tomb of Horrors for DDO...

If you've made friends with and been questing with the player I think you have, then lucky you! I've been lucky enough to group with him a few times, and he's a legend

    Glad you're enjoying the game!

Yeppers...Ellis has been a godsend. Amazingly patient, breaks his thoughts into short bursts that are easy to understand and is just all around a great person. When i have done groups seperate from him I realize just the amazing difference in players that just blast through quests and those who actually do the quests.

    Bards are so incredibly wonderful
They make every quest a true joy
    Whether it's tramping through sewers
Or looting raid chests for new toys

They sing of the fame and the prowess
Of the friends and companions about
With healing and buffing and support
    Even when completion's in doubt

It's true they may tease on occasion
About your foibles and failings and more
But that's only because you enjoy it

Because without us, those stories about you?

We bards will be right there behind you
Doing our best to make you look good

Well, I can't provide many wenches, as the folks who linger around tend to be of the other gender, though if you need a wingwoman, a bard's your best bet!

I'm pondering making a "daily bard song" thread, just cause I'm having so much fun writing these.
