Default Dragonmark of healing after update 19.

    Hi,

Has the number of turns on the dragon mark of healing changed? If so how many heals, cure critical, etc do you get if you max out the tree?

On a related note. I'm considering pick this up on a next life. How reliable would this be as a form of self healing? Are there enough turns to make it viable? Or am i better off just twisting in cocoon? The toon in question would be a mix of ranged and melee.

    Thanks in advance.

Default Not the Dragonmark of Healing but...

...I'm going to assume they're all the same. I'm currently playing an Elf with the Dragonmark of Shadow. I've taken all three tiers of "Phiarlan Dragonmark Focus", giving me 3 extra uses per day. After that, I have:

    • 8 uses of Least
    • 6 uses of Lesser
    • 4 uses of Greater

I also had 4 uses of the Greater Dragonmark Spell (before I got rid of it as it didn't seem worth it), that shared the same counter as the uses of normal Greater Dragonmark.

In terms of self healing, I would expect that the Dragonmark of Healing is not going to be sufficient on it's own. However, 4 free Heals per shrine on a character that might otherwise not be able to heal to well could well be a Gift from the Dragon Above when things ain't going so good.

I've never bothered with Dragonmarks before due to the huge feat requirement. But as Toughness is no longer a must-have (so I can slot the first Dragonmark in it's place), and the rest only cost a handful of Action Points, things like 4 free Heals per shrine, or 4 Displacements, seem well worth having.

    I think it's 9/6/4 actually.

Hmm interesting. My human toon with mark of passage has 10/6/4. At least top tiers seems to have some sort of consistency.

They're still effective in a lot of areas & if you focus your enhancement points (since at low levels you don't necessarily need much beyond standard class abilities & halfway decent gear), you can actually end up getting Heal at level 6.
I don't mean to come across as unsympathetic - but I am, so I do.

I found this one highly effective in my first life, but I took a metamagic feat or two and had healing amp and positive spell power. I was also not terribly squishy. I found that when I tried to save other people with it who were squishier, I would run out quickly and not have uses left for my own purposes.

    Default Maximize/Empower/Empower Healing

The Dragonmark of Healing can use the Maximize/Empower/Empower Healing metamagics, so it is helpful to splash a class for these.

Playing currently a halfling barb/ranger currently with dragonmarks

With full invest in dragonmark enhancement, i have 9/6/4 uses
No heal skill, no empower healing feat, no healing amp

    Here is my feedback
    - drawback : cannot use dragonmark while under barb rage (works fine under spell rage)

    - CLW dragonmark is ok to keep you alive at very low level (1-3)
    - at low level (4-6), the CSW dragonmark is needed, but is enough
    - at mid-low level (7-10), you will need the heal and the CLW is nearly useless (but 9 uses allow you to heal yourself between fights)

I am currently level 11 and the heal does 100-130 pts (it scale with your level), so it is good for emergency heal
It also cure lot of other affilictions (including mummy rot)

The "Break out the leechees" enhancement is good : (Removes one negative level, one poison, and one disease from your living target once every 3 seconds. Duration is equal to your Heal skill.)
It is based on the total heal skill, with stat mod and item mod, so even with no heal pt, you can remove easily 2 neg levels
It also cure mummy rot (useful while doing sands)

At level 11, usually the dragonmark is enough to keep me alive for dungeon in hard mode unless dungeon is poor in shrine (like "raid the vulkorim, no shrine)
For elite dungeons, i often need to use some potions or wands unless there are plenty of shrines (but my AC suck)

    For higher levels
Unless you can have empower healing feat or some other way to improve amount of healing, the dragonmark will be too short to keep you alived (for a melee)
But healing dragonmark will always be good as emergency healing , especially for a class that lack self-healing (pure barb or pure fighter)
And CSW charges will be mostly used to get rid of negative level/poison/diseases

Yeah, when I had it I was getting 100-150 out of the CSW and more than I had HP out of the heal, but that took a meta-magic feat and some pretty good positive spell power and crit chance. Having a ranger level and spending 6 enh points gets you +75 positive spell power, and you could probably squeeze in 90 more from gear (or whatever is level appropriate), which would put you in the 2.5x base value territory. If you had that going even with no feats the Heal is always noticeable. If you don't have all of those things, you might need to rethink why you spent so much on enhancements to get more uses out of the ability.

I did some testing on a spare character slot and discovered that the heal sla gained from the enhancements cannot benefit from Empower or Maximize. As in, you cant even activate them. Empower heal works though.
All three work on the CLW and CSW sla's. I don't know if this is intended or not. Anyone know? If it is, I can definitely see taking a level of ranger and getting extra enhancements for this, as opposed to the easy single level of wizard for Maximize.

Edit: this info may have been gained before patch 1, and im not current on what is on the test server.

This is consistent with how spells work: "Heal" and "Heal, Mass" spells are affected only by the Empower Healing feat, whereas Cure Wounds spells are also boosted by Empower and Maximize feats. I'd say definitely WAI.

On Thelanis: Hallelujah (Spellsinger) - Jerryrigged Juggernaut (caster FvS) - Sepulchral (Druid) - Chopchopchop (Warlock) - Alleyshadow (retired gimped monkcher). Formerly on Keeper : Misericordia (Thug) - Mumbo Jumbo (Battle Caster) - Infernal Can (WF Kinda Cleric) - Halleluyah (Melee Spellsinger).

Yep, Maximize and Empower have never worked on the Heal spell. Only Empower Healing Spell.

Same deal for Reconstruct, except Reconstruct doesn't even get an Empower Repair Spell feat to boost it.

Oh really? I hadn't noticed that. I haven't played any character with the heal spell before, apparently. Thanks for that information.

before U19, there were +4 uses of DM granted by the enhancements. At level 2, 5, 9 and 14. Now you can get only +3 uses at level 2.

    Before U19: 5/7/9 - 3 feats
    After U19: 4/6/8 - 1 feat + extra SLA for Lesser DM

Empower and Maximize works with CLW and CSW, Empower Healing works with all of them.

    Thelanis: Shewind the Airbender (Sorc20/Epic5 -> Bard20/Epic8 -> Rog20/Epic8/Epic2 -> Harper_FvS20/Epic4 -> Art19), Azaxe (Rog18/Wiz2 -> Sorc20/Epic6)
