I gotta say, while there are indeed some things you could do before that just don't work anymore, there's a heck of a lot of things you can do now that are totally awesome.
The combinations are impressive indeed, and I think it'll really take a lot of experimenting to figure out what things you need lots of class levels to make work, and what things you can do with a 3-4 level splash, and what racial picks are full of win.
Some new things I've found in just a little playing:
Elf and Drow rogues can search traps without stopping by spending a few AP. (shaddar kai too, I think)
Elven feywild tap is a not-small amount of spellpoints for yourself or for the barbarian's pocket healer. Used judiciously, it's a huge help, and well worth the AP. Hint: use one for buffing.
Sorcerers can take a second savant to 4/5. Wizards can take archmage and pale master both. Pale master pets appear to be more useful, like iron defenders or druid companions, though you have to spend the points to power them up if you want more than a lever-puller.
Rangers and rogues get finesse for AP for some weapon types... and better than that, dex to damage as well as to-hit.
I've only scratched the surface of a few classes I am currently into. I'd bet anything other people will come up with way cooler stuff.
