Default Any Reason To Keep Weapon Finesse?

I have an elf, dex-based ranger/tempest with weapon finesse. She uses rapier in main hand and short sword in offhand, some times dual-wields rapiers, and uses longbows when ranging. Any reason why I would need to keep weapon finesse with the new elf and tempest enhancements?

    Thanks in advance.

For a tempest, I cannot see any reason why you would need to retain Weapon Finesse. One of their core abilities enables you to use your dex modifier for hit and another for damage, if I recall correctly.

The Elf Enhancement doesn't give you Dex to to-hit only to Damage.

The Tempest Enhancement does not give you Dex to Damage or to-hit with Rapiers.

I can only quote the older versions from the Wiki, but:

    "
Grace: You may use Dexterity to hit with your chosen set of weapons.
    Choose one:

    • Aerenal Grace: You may use Dexterity to determine the damage you deal with Longswords, Rapiers, and Longbows.
    • Valenar Grace: You may use Dexterity to determine the damage you deal with Scimitars, Falchions, and Shortbows."
---> The last level of the Elven Enhancements gives you DEX for to-hit & damage for the group you choose.

Something is bugged there I think its the first probably the description
Grace: You may use Dexterity to hit with your chosen set of weapons.
    Choose one:
All it does is add dex to damage I checked on Friday Night as I was comparing Grace, Tempest+Graceful Death, and Improved Weapon Finesse to see how they differed.

Grace only changed the damage not the to-hit. without Weapon Finesse.

Tempest+Graceful Death gave dex to damage with Short Swords and Scimitars but not Rapiers (I did not test light weapons other then Short Swords)

Improved Weapon Finesse worked with Short Swords and Raipers but not Scimitars.

I wanted to get back on and see how the three effect Handwraps but did not get a chance.

Well, when they get the bugs fixed, then the combination should give the ability to use dexterity for to-hit and damage with all light weapons. So, for a tempest ranger, there would be little need for weapon finesse unless you wanted improved weapon finesse.

I think the way it will be fixed is a change of description but we'll see.

Good Rangers will want to be able to use Dex for damage when using Balizarde so they will want Improved Weapon Finesse.

"Grace: You may use Dexterity to hit with your chosen set of weapons", the "chosen set of weapons" refers to either the straight blades or curved blades, so either "to hit" in the main description is a typo, or the damage in the detailed description is a typo and it actually adding damage is a bug.

Light weapons. Rapiers are not light.

Looks like my Drow will be staying STR based. Not that I mind, but I thought they were trying to push to make DEX builds viable.

Skeletons and Liches usually have a DR which needs bludgeoning weapons. The weapons where you can get Dex-to damage and Dex-to hit seem only to be slashing or piercing weapons. This might make weapon finesse an interesting option for using light maces et al.

You're probably going to lose dex to damage, but rather use good ole Str, but that's probably OK if your Lich of choice has a DR of 20 otherwise (I'm thinking of the Abbot or the Truthful One).

This is of relevance for Tempests as well as for Assassins.

you are correct that rapiers are not light, but neither are scimitars.

On the otherhand, rapiers have qualified for weapon finesse since the dawn of DDO. Not including them in tempest sure feels like a nerf as a result.

Rapiers should count at light weapons when you get "tempest" in the tempest tree of ranger the same as you get scimitar.

Oh my point precisely, signed and agreed.

But even if getting is right is on turbine's list, it's far, far away.
Heck, it may even be WAI just to keep those pesky Drow down.
