    Default Threnal Wilderness Areas - why no Explorers and Map unlock?

    Was it September 2009 when Threnal was released?

    I've been taking another character through every quest again to check some numbers for my quest log and I was left wondering why Threnal has never had any explorers added.

    Rares I'm not so fussed about, although sticking high XP rares in the 4 "non-quests" dotted around the place wouldn't be a bad idea I suppose.

    But we can't unlock the wilderness area map as we can with other wilderness areas.

    It's only taken me 4 years to ponder this

    Default Why?

    Because the Threnal Ceremonial Blade makes up for all that!

    It's clearly awesome. But even dual wielding them doesn't add explorers and open up the wilderness map

    its not even considered a wilderness area. try looking it up under wiki and its not listed. its like a huge quest with extremely pitiful xp. it must fall under an outdoor zone, like the Steam Tunnels.

    I've posted before about the likes of:

    -Threnal
    -The Steam Tunnels
    -The Shrouded Vale
    -Black Anvil Mines

    Being ripe for regeneration into actual Explorer Zones!

    Threnal
    -------

    Slayer Max - 750
    Explorers - 8 {Ruins, Arena, All 3 Giant Caves + 3 others}
    Rares - 4 {Named Fire Giants - 1 in or at entrance to each Giant Cave and 1 at Entrance to Arena}

    Remove Entrances to Giant Caves - Make them actually part of the Explorer!
    OR
    Remake them and ADD to Compendium!

    Steam Tunnels
    --------------

    Slayer Max - 200
    Explorers - 6 {Both Quest Entrances + 4 others}
    Rares - 4 {1 Per Tunnel - Named Glass Spider, Hobgoblin scouting Party, Named Trog Shaman, Named Violet Slime}

    Obviously boost the number of mobs inside to 35 per instance

    Shrouded Vale
    -------------

    Slayer Max - 400
    Explorers - 6 {incl Quest Entrance to Faithful Departed of course}.
    Rares - 4 {Drow Shaman, Scorrow General, Named Monarch Scorpion, Elf Druid}

    Obviously boost # of mobs

    Black Anvil Mines
    ----------------

    Rebuild into a Proper Zone with Relic and Made to Order on opposite sides of the map!

    Slayer Max - 750
    Explorers 9 {incl Both Quests + Possible 3rd Quest}
    Rares - 7 {Banished Duergar Miner, Insane Iron Golem, Dwarf Ranger {Duergar Slayer}, Bulette, Umber Hulk, Stone Giant Apprentice, Kobold Barbarian}.

    Possible 3rd and 4th F2P Quests:
    -Set in Stone - Lvl 16 {Stone Giant Quest with Entrance near to Rare Spawn Spot of Stone Giant Rare}
    -Return to The Black Anvil Mines - Lvl 18 {Use Relic Entrance} - Epicable at Lvl 25 with E-Tesyus as End Reward!

    /chuckles

    I think you mean Spring 2006

    It predates all "wilderness" areas as we know them now.

    3 Barrel used to be much like Threnal did it not?

    Then they Made that LOVELY HUGE Explorer Zone {The Best in the game in my view}!

    Why on Earth can't they do similar for Threnal?

    Shows how opinions differ. I always used to go to 3 Barrel cove and I stopped going when the changed it to that over sized explorer zone that made you run too much for too little return.

    Yeah, Threnal was there at game release (when it was endgame content.) While it was tweaked slightly a couple of years ago, the map itself has never been significantly altered.

    While it is true the the original 3BC was the same tech as Threnal it was a tiny and pitiful little area. When it was redone they also added several new quests out there. Threnal is just one of the areas (and by far the largest) that has never seen further development. The others include the Shrouded Vale, the Pool of Reflection, the Path to Whisperdoom, and the Black Anvil Forest (which was gutted instead of developed.)

    I have always loved Threnal and I would think it would make sense to develop it some more. It seems pre-designed to have further dev, considering that it has those 3 (?) placeholder cave quests in there.

    Personally, though, I have always thought that the Shrouded Vale seemed like all of those areas I mentioned (except PtW) could and should be further developed. They just sort of scream "Abandoned Content" in today's game.
