This build takes advantage of the fact that Dwarven Axes are considered 2h weapons for the purpose of THF ITHF and GTHF's splash damage bonus, even when using a shield (although not dual wielding).
It incorporates shield mastery/greater shield mastery for extra tankage, and it includes improved shield bash (1 extra feat) for the freebie shield bashes every 6 seconds.
I skipped out on Combat Expertise as while this build should(?) be able to tank with Power Attack will be on at all times to help gather threat along with greater cleave and the splash damage.
Hopefully with hate generation from stalwart defender, the glancing blows and cleaves will be enough to keep things off my caster friends.
I also was able to fit in Bullheaded and Iron will for +3 to Will Saves (stacked with Dwarven spell resistance) and +2 on intimidate rolls.
I maxed Intimidate (of course) and Jump (no relying on casters for jump spell).
Things that could be changed.
I went 14 INT mostly for RP reasons, I wanted my dwarf to be able to be able to tell a story (haggle) despite his stenchy beard and low Cha score. Going down to 12 int looses you the skill point needed for better vendor prices.
It's a 32 point build. So, if you're running 28 points you'd need to drop haggle and perhaps 2 points from Dex(12 to 10) or Wis (10 to 8). AC will come from tower shields and heavy armor anyway. Dex bonuses won't ever be the major source (this wrong?). I only went with 12 dex to avoid having to take any Dex gear to get the minimum +1 or +2 AC bonus left behind from Tower Shields / Heavy Armor (i didn't take tower/armor mastery enhs). I suppose you could drop 2 points from Wis and Int to get a better Dex score as well (and then take those armor/shield bonus enhs).
You could also swap haggle for something else, but due to 6 Cha Dump you can pretty much forget a useful UMD score.
As for feats, I suppose Bullheaded and Iron Will could be swapped out, but you're going to loose some points in Will Saves which means you'll be CCed more easily (noooo not the tank!) This leaves 3 optional feats including Shield Bash, perhaps Combat Expertise could be fit in somewhere here. I also wasn't able to find "Epic Toughness" on the DDO Character Generator, but if it's in game, and you pump Con up to 21 (instead of str to 19) you could also take. Keep in mind to take on Combat Expertise you'll need 14 Int.
Stats could also be changed, some Con into Str or vice-versa, or take a +3 tome. I balanced it between them as this is a tank char and he needs the extra HP. It also raises his Fortitude score while re-gaining damage from enhs power attack and feats.
As for gear, TANK gear all the way. DR on shield, as much AC/Saves/DR/Fortification etc.. as possible.
Anyway, I'm somewhat new to DDO. I've followed others builds until now (Unbongwah) but I thought this would be a fun build to play and am considering it as a 2nd life (after a 20 barb, swapping toughness for barb feat) to make a Stalwart Defender of the Wild.
