    Default awesomiumprocess.exe

While I understand DDO has implemented to support the ingame browser and store.

I dont understand why I have 7 instances of it running even when i have not opened the in-game browser or Store..

It seems to be causing me some minor lag issues which i should never have in this game on a newer I-7_2600 with 16Gigs of ram and only DDO loaded.
Killing them in the processes tree cleans this up, but they reload over time.

I shouldnt have to ctrl-alt-del and delete these processes continually.

    last answer we got.

Awesome: DDO is doing it wrong, it should only be using one.
DDO: awesome doesn't support long path/file names which was causing issues for some users. As a workaround we have one running per core (if not more.)

My thought process goes something like this. If I don't need it to be running for me to be doing whatever I'm doing, it's bloatware at best and I will be shutting it down. I don't see a need for it to run in the background at all, regardless of how many resources it consumes. I shut them all down and DDO still runs fine for me (or better).

My suggestion to Turbine is, if it's necessary for running the store, browser, etc. then run them during that time that I have those components open, then shut them down when I close them. Why they have to run all the time is unknown to me. It just results in me shutting them down then just not using the store at all.

They reappear only when you switch character. If you stay with the same character they remain killed.

Now for your minor lag issue, you can just kill the one that generate CPU spikes, it's obvious which one it is. In my case I don't have to kill the other ones.
( and it allows me to use the store )

    Actually :

Awesome: DDO is doing it wrong, it should only be using one.
DDO : Awesome as used previously - an embedded DLL in the game client - was causing issues with long URLs (1). As a workaround we have decided that one browser process for each kind of web session ( launcher alert, character selection store, in game store, old 'MyDDO', Help/Support/Bug (2) ) was the way to go.

    (1) It's not the client that should have been 'fixed', it's the guys doing the sloppy work in the web development department that should have been 'fixed'.
Come on Seriously, nowadays it's dead easy to shorten URLs.

    (2) It still have no clue about what the last two might be for. Any clue will be welcome.

Point being I shouldn't have to alt tab out of the game to kill processes that interfere with the enjoyment of the game.

If they are not needed then dont load them.

When no longer needed they should close automatically.

This seems like common sense to me... am I missing something?

I agree that Turbine's stupidity should not cause extra memory usage on our machines. Just because they cannot implement something correctly does not mean to add the burden on to the customer.

TURBINE enough with the multiple processes. If you cannot successfully implement it with only one process, maybe you should learn how to properly code your program. This causes additional memory leak issues, as well as overworking the processors.

I noticed this process running today for the first time--SEVEN of them. DDO proceeded to crash my display driver and cause a blue screen of death on my computer so bad that for a moment I wasn't sure I'd be able to bring the thing back up AT ALL. Yes, I have an old PC but that doesn't mean you need to give me a heart attack with excessive processes and the ever-present memory leaks. Sheesh.

I updated a ton of stuff and it seems to be working okay now, but who knows what'll crash next. Every other game I have runs fine! I can play Skyrim! TURBINE Y U DO THIS?!?!
    I edited a book!
