Default What's up with Paladin and Ranger Devotion enhancements?

I didn't see anything in the release notes. Was this added back in?

If not this is a must, it's a huge nerf to the self-healing melees if these are gone.

From what I can see the situation is fine for Paladins. They get Heal as a class skill and should be able get above 50 quite easily. They also get 1 Point of positive Energy Spell Power per Action point invested in Sacred Defender - So a pure Paladin would get 70 - 90 positive Energy Spellpower, depending on how much he concentrated on which tree.

So in the end Paladins actually save a few action points but have to invest into another skill.

For Rangers it is a little bit more difficult. They still have Heal as a class skill but no Bonus via spent Action Points. However only the players who invested in Devotion 4 really lose quite a bit of healing power.

I personally don't see such a big problem here, although I would not be opposed to give Rangers some way to get a bit more positive Energy Spellpower. Maybe in the AA tree. Not sure.

    And you're wrong.

    This is a huge nerf.

Having to waste skill point on a class with few skill points is a huge nerf.

Having to slot yet one other item (heal skill) is a huge nerf.

Getting 50ish devotion instead of 80 is a huge nerf.

Please learn the game mechanics before you post again.

Rangers and pallies need their devotion enhancements. This is not negotiable.

Don't forget animal druids, it's a huge nerf for them as well.

Paladins have other ways to increase healing, but they lack skill points for Heal.
Rangers have more skill points to invest, but they usually need more skills too. And they have no other way to increase healing.
    Devotion should return.
And put back Dwarven Faith too.

    Didn't know about this.

The Devotion line should be low-hangign fruit in one of the class trees, something you can buy with no pre-reqs. With 6 Trees now available that shouldn't be an issue.

It must be added if it's not there.

Imo, they should just make class trees that would have those old enhancments. Like: Paladin tree with Devotion, Rogue tree with Scroll Mastery, Monk tree with Heal Amp etc. Ofc, they d have to add more stuff into those trees to not make it look empty. Also. I remember a post by some dev, saying that ithere shouldnt be any already existing enhancments missing in the new system, so hopefully they are working on something lol.

They don't need to go that far . . . just add it as low-hanging fruit in one of the trees. With the 7 tree limit (1 racial + 6 classes) it shouldn't be a problem fitting it in.

It's a problem if they add it as you get 1 devotion for each AP spent in that one tree.

I do believe they need a low tier choice for about 30 devotion spellpower, give or take. But no, the whole Heal skill thing I don't see as a nerf. If anything, all I ever put points into was Intimidate and UMD, so now I don't need intimidate (never used it as a tank anyway, my fighter is so much better) means I can put it into heal and have a useful skill.

If you don't see the nerf get your eyes checked.

If you previously assigned your skill points poorly that doesn't reflect on the rest of the people who build their toons better.

Don't forget bards that don't want to invest their entire AP into the spellsinger tree and dump 23 cross-class skill points into heal (i.e. bards that anybody will actually want to play with)

I think all of this drama over skill points/spellpower can be solved simply by giving each class 1 extra skill point per level. This can be incredibly helpful to classes low on skill points, like paladins, sorcerers, clerics, and fvs.

    It seems only fair.

    It's not enough.

Even with maxed Heal skill the ranger I made on lamaland is 50 points shy on devotion.

Quick and dirty . . . 1 point of devotion for each AP spend in any ranger tree.

    Agreed.

Paladin, Ranger, Druid, Bard. What gives? Seems as if a lot of players will be negatively effected by the loss of self-healing ability. Or is Turbine aiming for the mass purchase of potions and elixirs?

Then call it "Brand New Game Online".
It should be dnd based. I don't like the way turbine is moving away from pnp, at least players should avoid pushing the game further away.

Sorry that other people aren't seeing the same things you are. Yes they could use something small to add to it, but the heal skill part of it is a buff.
