Default You be the Dungeon Master!

Let's pretend that Turbine, WB, and the DDO Gods decided to let you build your own adventure pack. What kind of quests would you bestow upon the adventurers of the DDO community?

Where would you have them travel? What mobs would they face? Is there an explorer area? What kind would it be? Who is the "Boss" of your adventure? Is there a raid? What is the story line for your adventure pack? Any nice loot that would drop? How about the level range?

You may incorporate already existing ones in the game or think of something new! You have almost unlimited freedom in what you can do as you have handy kobold union workers who will see that it is done. Have fun.

A Ravenloft cross-over. Very moody, kind of like Necropolis, with lots and lots of long story-based quest chains; sprawling castles and moody, haunted forests and towns. Gosh, I'm almost ready to do more Necro. Thanks for making me want to play more DDO :P

I would do a return of Kasquik the Mighty in the form of a kobold lich. And his hordes of undead kobolds that where once slaughtered in WW. Featuring the return of mini bosess like Jittik, Bloodletter, and rest of the WW gang.

I'd add another chapter to the Stormreaver storyline and send the players back in time before his original confrontation with The Truthful One. Players would play a key role in the events leading up to the near destruction of Gianthold. You would get to explore a Gianthold before the destruction. Areas like the Prison of the Planes would be fully functional. There would be loads of dragons and giants to fight. Possibly, players would have to "choose a side" and there could be two distinct storylines and end results.

I would make some long ass quests - think atleast an hour to finish even after you know whats going on.

I would make each quest require a somewhat balance party to win - with areas where magic is reduced or does not work - areas with deadly traps - areas with high DR mobs - areas with mobs that hit extrely hard but CC easily etc, etc.

Further, I would make pots not work in the quest to further promote teamwork and I would prevent reentering.

Finally, I would add a "scoreboard" to each quest showing the fastest 20 runs.

Not sure on quests to go along with it but I'd have a vol raid.

After fighting thru a labyrinth filled with vampires, skeletons, and death knights you reach Vol. The fight would wall people inside the room. Vol would have quicken, maximize, empower, heighten and enlarge. She would weakly melee if cornered but in general she behaves as a caster mob. Spell list

Disintegrate average damage on a non save on ee should be 1k+ to the target with aggro

Niac's biting cold, she triple stacks niacs on a random target outside of melee range.

Eldar's Electric Surge, she triple stacks eldar's on a random target outside of melee range.

Necrotic Fissure, a large crack in the ground opens and spews necrotic energy, 10d20 negative energy per second effected by her spell power. It also drains the strength and constitution of any target effected at 1d4 per tick. (Deathward is a must) This spell is targeted on a random target in melee range and the party must quickly reposition vol as it will heal her quickly as she has 300% negative energy healing amp.

Meteor Swarm to target with aggro

Polar Ray to target with aggro

    Chain lightning to random target

Might of House Vol, This buff increases Vol's spell power by 1% for every 1% of health that she loses.

At the four corners of the room there are additional challenges to deal with.

    NW Corner:

Bone Pile, a Death Guard Warrior skeleton spawns here every 30 secs, these are a new skeleton melee class that features extremely heavy melee attacks but low reflex saves. (Think a druid with earthquake for cc while a dps kills them)

    SW Corner:

Bone Portal, 2 Death Knights come thru the doorway every 30 secs until the gate is destroyed. These knights are completely devoted to Vol and after 20 secs will sacrifice their lives healing vol to full, if they are not killed first. The Portal has approximately the same hp as the truthful one in egh. This will have to be one of the first priorities of the party.

    SE Corner

Bone Pile, a Death Guard Archer skeleton spawns here every 30 secs This skeleton has extremely high reflex saves but lower str and is best cc'd with web while a dps kills.

    NE Corner

    Lich's Philactory

A lich with similar behavior to vol is located here and will attack the party. If killed it will respawn every 30 secs till the philactory is destroyed.

I have been a DM. Had a fun, static group in college. Started with the original three pack of paperback books.

No explorer areas. All dungeons were created by me. None of them were bought.

Story line? Hack n Slash. Have fun. Level up. Get loot. Since we were all engineering students, our games were very technical and literal when it came to battles and logic.

Used miniatures. 1" by 2" blocks of wood were a perfect scale for the game to represent walls. I put all my data tables I needed in a Lotus 123 Spreadsheet with shortcuts keyed in so I could easily go from table to table in the game. BTW, the public internet did not exist back then.

I would pre-create a list of wandering monsters so if they encountered wandering monsters it was already rolled up with the loot and I did not have to waste time rolling them up. The game was not a time sink, other than for me, but I enjoyed it.

I embraced technology in the game. And all characters had a techno characteristic. My favorite remembrance is of the time one player trying to figure out how to use a stapler which he always thought was a weapon of some sort. Obviously, mind altering chemicals and liquor were involved.

Players could be anything from a Dragon to an angel to whatever. In order to get on that table you had to roll three 100s in a row, in front of me, only one player ever did that during character creation, he was a Balrog.

we are the kobolds. we are legion. we do not forgive. we do not forget. expect us... rofl!!

if i had to choose smthing, t would concern the history of Amrath, and its Heroes. The ones who had those rings before we find them! It would be awesome if we could travel back in time to help those heroes in some of their adventures, or even fight some of them? idk.. im sure Devs can have better ideas from me on this one! and along with this,m we can at last get an explanation of what is that thing in that cave, and why those Yugoloths are guarding that gate! i believe that would freshen the Amrath in general, if we can get it on Epic also. it might need some new monsters though, besides those orthons n devils etc

Well its not really being the DM as much as being the Dev, since you're designing MMO gameplay, not just a storyline

But if I were introducing a new quest pack, here's all the points I'd try to include:

-Set it in Spelljammer. Spelljammer is awesome.

-Heroic level with Epic continuation or replay (like GH). L9 seems to be a little sparse with Heroic, so I'd stick it in at L8-11 Heroic.

-Explorer area with slayers, rare encounters, teleport waypoints, and random repeatable mini-quests like you get in FR. I like having an open-ended option for when you just want to doodle around.

-One or two challenges, with rewards that complement/upgrade rewards from quest gameplay. One "Arena" type quest, maybe one challenge where you hunt down a boss that moves around. The defensive challenges are more frustrating.

-Three or four solo quests leading up to a capstone quest. Might be a raid (with a juicy preraid), might just be a soloable flagged quest like Necro. Truly soloable - no 3-lever-pulling requirements or anything. Mostly hack and slash, with some puzzles but nothing that requires too much dumb luck, or platform jumping gameplay...

-One standalone quest that's Short in length. Like Haverdasher, just a couple scrubs and a boss fight for one chest. XP wont be good and no special loot, of course, but its fun and quick and repeatable. Maybe even have a handful of different boss mobs that could appear, to change things up, like the last fight in Invaders. Maybe every difficulty has 2 or 3 different boss types, with purple named on EE.

-Loot would be a crafting subsystem so you could customize your weapon type, like GS/Alchem/Cormyr. Premade loot just leaves too many weapon types with too few options (ie Repeaters, Quarterstaves, etc.)

If I could only choose one I'd choose The Labyritnth of Madness:

Easily the most fun I've had in a pnp campaign.

You and your group have been selected to retrieve some kinda bauble from some kind of ancient tomb.

The tomb is 8 rooms in a straight line with a bauble at the 8th and final room along with 20 chests filled with various named loot and +5 tomes.

Each room of the tomb is exactly the size of a large gelatinous cube, and consequently; has a large gelatinous cube in each. Each Cube has a million hit dice and a DC 60 hold.

At the 7th room right before the 8th reward room, resides the mother of all gelatinous cubes that has a no save hold and is indestructible. It also constantly spams mordekainen's dysjunctions on everyone and removes all FOM effects.

The quest will be called "Feed the Jelly".

    The end.

I know this is just a "waht if" but man adding player created dungeons to DDO would definitly push this game to the top for me.

Tell me how you can QA player-created dungeons with less effort than it takes to build one from scratch, and I'll be sold on the idea

Unfortunately, I think 99% of the submissions they'd have to vet would be either A) way too unbalanced, either in terms of XP or loot or zergability, or B) the creator would try to sneak in an exploit or backdoor they could take advantage of once the quest went live. A spot you could jump across, or a pile of rocks you can climb up or something, to skip most of the quest. or maybe build a specific landscape feature you could use to take advantage of a mob's AI and drastically reduce the challenge of a quest.

I would build a quest with a straight 100' hallway filled with impossible to kill monsters and a chest at the end with the best loot in the game. Full PUG party required to enter quest.

Chest is unlocked at start and monsters can be ignored by using sneak.

Trick of the quest is finding 11 other people that can follow directions and not alert the monsters.

    The pack would be 5 quests, level 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.

First quest would be where the players discover that a mad wizard is weakening the planar boundaries with a spell that (fortunately) fails. It was /supposed/ to destroy the boundary between the Realms and Eberron.

Instead, it's letting in Shavarath, Xoriat, and Doluurh. The players beat back the inital waves (which also fight each other).

The second quest is a search for a means to undo the planar breaches that are now forming all over eberron.

Third quest is a big battle to deploy the macguffin that seals the breaches.

Fourth quest is a chase after the mad wizard as he pursues a lead that an ancient lich had developed a spell that would do what he wants....pursuing him into THE TOMB OF HORRORS.

Fifth quest, nobody will ever flag for, because of the fourth.

The quest or raid would be level 25 on normal, and would require at least a trapper, a crowd controller, and a tank in such a way that parts of the quest would be impossible to complete without specific roles being filled by specialists. All 6 or most of the 12 members needing to be specific classes or have specific skill sets would be optimal, and a nice change to the shiradi sorc/wizard yawn fest that is happening right now.

The loot would have to be damn good, because otherwise nobody would go through the trouble of forming the needed group. Tactical augment crystals (vertigo, stun, etc), preferably yellow, since there isn't much of a reason to get yellow slotted items right now would be a start. Drop a colorless or yellow devotion crystal in there, since it helps melees so much with their cocoons, etc, and I think you would have a pretty popular quest/raid.

As for the quest itself? How about a part where the group pops out of a large mirror and you fight approximate versions of yourselves?

A really mario-ish part could be fun too. Something where you have to run and jump constantly, a race against the clock, barely stopping to complete objectives along the way.

    I would create these:

    1. epic korthos (stated in suggestions forum)

    2. adv. pack of 10-15quests, heroic, wide lvl range at least 5
-70% story arc, with graduating difficulty and length
-30% solo q, and common q. like pub advertisment ''I lost my puppy, please help'' (but they didt mention that its werewolf ), or ''I need 100 pieces of arachnid skin, but Im lazy to get them'' (and he dont mention that they are pets of troll family nested in forest), killing undead villagers on nearby cemetery...you know, common d&d quests for fun.
    -wilderness area
    - maybe raid for players who love them, as extra bonus to story arc, so everybody will be happy.
-everything with moody landscape - I imagine some village or smal town next to forest with spooky hut, old cemetery, lake or sea, something that make adventure feeling for players just by walking through landscape

epic version of greater evil comming from forest, not same quests, but more as Village 2 - return of evil, as continuing story arc to heroic story arc/raid or whole new threat

so the adv.pack will be worth for heroic toons as for epic toons
