Default Sun Elves with Frikkin Laser Beams!

So I rolled my first Sun Elf last night and just by splashing one level of FvS and the auto-granted gear I was able to get my light SP over 180. With max and empower running I was shooting the nimbus and searing light and SLAs (and spell) for 200-500 damage a shot, the sunbeam (which looks awesome when you cast it!) spell seemed to average 500+ per shot, and I want to say the sunburst SLA was starting at 300-400 damage.

Needless to say there will be a lot of cheap, SICK light damage to be had with the Exalted Angel epic destiny.

Anyone else playing around with this or come up with any fun/interesting laser builds using the Sun Elves yet?

I'm assuming the critical enhancements from the Smiting and Spell Critical: Light do not stack?

    Has anyone confirmed this?

    Default Iconic Starter

I've rolled two version of the Morninglord iconic so far, both primarily focused on maxing light damage and using the SLAs to achieve cheap, almost limitless sources of light damage.

These aren't builds planned out for L28, these are starter builds with starter gear you can roll right out of the garret into Eveningstar and begin running the heroic Eveningstar and Wheloon quests. You literally do not need anything else but access to the iconic class/race Morninglord.

The first is a 14/1 Cleric/Fvs Sun Elf.

    STR - 14
    DEX - 8
    CON - 14
    INT - 10
    WIS - 16
    CHA - 8

    AC 32
    HP 235
    SP 1231

    Spell Power:
    Light: 180 - 30% critical chance (Magic training 5%, Ment Tough 1%, Imp MentTough 1%, Enhancements 8%, armor 15%)
    Fire: 115
    Positive: 124

Skill points are in Heal, Concentration, and Spell Craft (maxing spell craft)

    Level ups in WIS.

FEATS: Mental Toughness, Improved Mental Toughness, all three Morninglord class feats, 2 open feats (I went with shield deflection and shield mastery).

Has nimbus of light, searing light, sunburst, and holy smite SLAs. Spells: nimbus of light, searing light, holy smite, divine punishment, SUN BOLT, blade barrier, and comet fall.

With little to no melee ability, and really not a lot of durability (out of the gate), this build focuses on spamming the SLAs and the equivalent light/alignment based spells to do damage, supplementing them with blade barrier, comet fall, all the while healing through the damage. Oh and Sun Bolt is an awful lot of fun to cast.

The second version is a FVS/CLR 12/3 (with a frikkin' laser on its head)

    STR 8
    DEX 10
    CON 14
INT 14 (higher int for more skill points)
    WIS 16
    CHA 14

    AC 34
    HP 235
    SP 1612

    Spell Power:
Light: 199 (closer to 215 with scourge active) - 30% critical chance (see first build for details)
    Fire: 134
    Positive: 154

Skill points are in Heal (18), Concentration (18), Spell Craft (18), and balance (9). With starter gear that gives the following skill values right out of the gate:

    HEAL: 44
    SPELL CRAFT: 23
    CONCENTRATION: 23
    BALANCE: 20

    Level ups in WIS.

FEATS: Mental Toughness, Improved Mental Toughness, all three Morninglord class feats, 2 open feats (again I went with shield deflection and shield mastery).

Has nimbus of light, searing light, and sunburst SLAs. Spells nimbus of light, searing light, holy smite, divine punishment, and blade barrier.

Also little to no melee ability, and really not a lot of durability (out of the gate), and also focuses on spamming the SLAs and the equivalent light/alignment based spells to do damage (supplementing them with blade barrier), but with nearly 400 more SPs, Just Reward granting an extra 10 SPs every time you crit, and a frikkin laser (archon) strapped to your head, you will not be running out of spell points any time soon even though you will be healing tons of damage.

Even when you do run out of SPs, the nimbus and searing light SLAs are cheap enough to keep casting them between CMW, as you turtle up behind your shield and let the archon blast away.

    Something's not adding up here...

    Str - Both have 8
    Dex - Both have 10
    Con - Both have 14
    Wis - Both have 16

FavSoul has 2 more Int AND 4 {Four} more Charisma!

    What gives?

Is the second one a 36pt Build or something?

Good catch. The first one I was going off of (faulty) memory, the second one I was toggling back and forth between the screens. Both were 32 pt builds. It was late when I posted so I'll double check the stats.

Also I used +3 tomes for Spell Craft & Heal, and +2 tome for concentration.

I forget what my Sunelves had, but I made two rather powerful builds -

The first was a build I'd like to call, the Solar Aegis Knight -

He had about 15-16 Cleric levels and 4-5 Paladin Levels. The idea of the build was to tap into the benefits of the Morninglord with the added benefits of Paladin and high AC/PRR - End result is a rather effective nuker knight who could switch to melee (albeit less effectively) in a pinch.

My second build focused more on FVS levels with enough cleric levels to get the Sunbolt spell, and heavily utilize the light Spellpower boosts - she did more damage than the first, but was less survivable.
    Ziind Stargazer - Level 12 fighter/6 Barbarian/2 rogue Half-Orc (Neutral Good) - Formerly a level 20 Paladin Human - Orien

    Fernian Summer Carnival

I like the Solar Aegis Knight idea. That's sort of what I was hoping for with my first build, which I think I will abandon. My second build seems in line with your second build so far.

    OK,

I've updated the stats. I was way off on the first one - which I tried to make somewhat helpful in melee.

The primary difference is they swap STR & CHA scores, and the second has higher INT.

    Default Warrior Priest

So I've been playing around with the Morninglord following this thread. It's ok. I am running into an issue that he is an average melee and an average caster and an average healer... so I might as well be playing druid. Right now I am still straight cleric (15). I was going to try the pally/cleric split, and was curious about the Morninglord FVS. However I am finding that gorups primarily just want a healer out of cleric (understandably), and I am a terrible healer. It doesn't help that I am ona different server, so cannot twink him, but man... it's kind of underwhelming right now. I think in order for it to work it needs to be focused on one thing and commit to it. I ran into this initially with my Bladeforged too, but once i committed to a role he is great and now at level 23.

Obviously there is a long way to go before I get there, and reliaze the ML potential, but I wonder if I will even get there. Sure, starting at 15 is cool, but other than that I find iconics very very underwhelming.

Build what you want, let them keep up with you.

Yeah. We'll see once we can TR into them how that works.

Most (if not all) of the AC/PRR that pallies get comes from sacred defender stance, which pallies don't get until level 6.

Cleric 13 / pal 6 / ftr 1 makes for a pretty survivable melee build w/lots of healing, extra PRR+saves from SD stance, Haste boost, etc.

Just preferable if it was something other than ML.

I am assuming it does otherwise I am in trouble. Spell Critical Light stacks on itself so why would not Smite stack on as well. So far I have SunElf Cleric level 15 and FVS level 2 with scourge 3 and 2 tiers of smite and 4 tiers of Light Critical in Cleric tree. Was going to go for lvl 4 FVS to get 4 tiers of Smite. Maximized and Empowered I have hit for up to 1100 damage so far with sunbolt. My light spellpower is 169 with the spell lore Mace and Burning Light Orb equipped.
Just got this from DDO Wiki Enhancements "All enhancements from a class or race stack with other enhancements from a class or race, even when they give identical bonuses. Elven Dexterity and Ranger Dexterity can be taken together."
