Default Need Help with a Quarterstaff Full Monk build

With the Monkey King movie coming out the end of this year (go Donnie Yen) I'm keen on making a monk build that uses the quarter staff as primary weapon.

I know this will not be as effective as say hand wraps but I really like the syle.

So if any of you monk build experts can give me ideas on how to build a full monk build with these points, I'd really like to hear fro you. I know next to nothing about playing monks so the more detail the better.

    -specializes in quarterstaff
    -dps build
-ideally human but I can handle half orc if human does not work
    -32 point build
-full monk, no other classes or splashes

I don't think you'll find any pure monk staff builds, because several monk abilities only work with handwraps (ToD, Stunning Fist, Quivering Palm, etc.). Instead a lot of staff builds, inc. mine, add rog for the atk speed bonuses from Acrobat I&II, as well as sneak atk dmg, skills, etc.

Well, this is a weird monk. I think you'd be better off with a pajama-wearing Fighter/Rogue, but if it has to be a pure monk... This is about as close to the historical Sun Wukong as I can reasonably get in DDO. He is very much a flavor build.

He could benefit from a few +2 tomes (Str and Con specifically). He runs Air stance for greater attack speed and to signify his cloud walking ability. His wisdom is about in-line with Wukong's in that he's got little of it. I know Int is a bit low to be accurate, but build points had to come from somewhere and the skill points are more than adequate for balance, jump, tumble and spot. Concentration is not one of his strengths. Don't even think about putting wraps on this guy. He'll be even worse with them. He'll be a pain to figure out from both style and gearing standpoints. Not to mention the "interesting" comments that will be made when joining a group. But if that's what you want, enjoy the ride.

Oh, if you want to switch to the "dark side" you can. I didn't include any prestige but figured the basic light finishers were more in-line with Wukong's described abilities.

Thank you for your replies guys, appreciate it.

Damn, damn, damn, if I do build this toon, it will be pretty hopeless combat wise.

A less than optimum toon is fine but one that is really nerfed is not so much fun.

Will have to rethink this idea.

    Thanks once again

    You're welcome.

Like unbongwah said, monks not using wraps are giving up a great many of their best abilities. I know you want to think of Sun Wukong as a monk. It's a natural supposition. However, If you focus more on his mischievousness he could be considered mostly roguish with a splash of fighter. unbongwah's Three Ring Circus build (linked above) is a solid, well designed example of this. With a little tweaking, it could easily become the framework for a monkey god. Minus the barbarian splash of course. No self-respecting denizen of the Middle Kingdom would take barbarian.

    Best of luck!

The proposed Henshin Mystic enhancement pass may be of interest to you, looks like it is going to be a big stick build line.

Does Void Strike work with staves? If so, then if you went pure monk I would try to squeeze in VS IV.

I think it does because the void line seems to follow the same rules as elemental strikes which do work while armed. Honestly, I've never tried it so I could be completely wrong. The only problem with the VS line is that the really useful one (IV) isn't available until level 19 which is a hare's breath away from epic destinies that provide far more utility.

Plus, VS doesn't really fit with the whole Monkey King motif. I guess it all depends on how closely one wants to follow the historical model in sacrifice to functionality.
