    I like it though
    Traps should be dangerous (especially on Elite), and not just poison traps.
    And I'd prefer random traps (and ANY quest should have a chance to have a random trap, you should never be safe).
    Each level of dungeon alert should add additional random trap.
    Trap DC should be random too (it shouldn't be the same DC for all traps in the same dungeon).

    Let's denote
    sp = +DC to spot
    sr = +DC to search
    ds = +DC to disable
    dm = +multiplier for trap damage (if dm<0 then multiplier is 1/(1-dm), i.e. damage is reduced 1-dm times)

    The sum sp+sr+ds+dm should be always zero, but each term should be random.
    All these values can be also negative, the range should depend on quest lvl and difficulty.

    For example, if range is from -1 to +2 then there are many possible trap combinations, like:
    -1+0-1+2=0
    This random trap means:
    spot DC -1 (compared to a non-random trap in the same quest, i.e. such trap easier to spot)
    search DC +0 (the same search DC as for non-random trap)
    disable DC -1 (easier to disable)
    dmg multiplier +2 (this trap deals +200% more dmg than non-random trap)

    Another example:
    0-1+2-1=0
    This random trap means:
    spot DC +0 (the same spot DC)
    search DC -1 (easier to search)
    disable DC +2 (harder to disable)
    dmg multiplier 1/(1+1) = 1/2 (this trap deals 50% less dmg than a non-random trap in the same dungeon)

    The suggestion was for random traps.
    The whole idea is that some random traps should be harder to spot/search/disable, but be less dangerous (compared to the non-random traps in the same dungeon), while other random traps should be easy to spot/search/disable, but be deadly.

    I forgot to include saves into equation.
    sv = +1 save DC

    The new equation:
    sp+sr+ds+dm+sv=0

    For example, 2+2+2-3-3=0 means that
    spot DC +2 (such trap harder to spot)
    search DC +2 (such trap is harder to search)
    disable DC +2 (such trap is harder to disable)
    dm = -3, i.e. multiplier is 1/(1+3) = 1/4 (this trap deals only 25% damage)
    saves -3 (this trap is easy to evade)

    This mechanics would bring some interesting traps like -3+3-3+3+0=0, which means that
    spot DC -3 (such trap is very easy to spot)
    search DC +3 (such trap is very hard to search)
    disable DC -3 (such trap is very easy to disable)
    dm = +3 (this trap is deadly: +300% damage)
    saves 0 (evading this trap is as easy as regular non-random traps in the same dungeon)
    (by "very easy" or "very hard" I mean if you do that quest at lvl)


    EDIT:
    And the strategy would be:
    - if a rogue can't spot, search or disable that trap then most likely this trap is not dangerous and can be ignored.
    - if you solo and a random trap "got you", you can reset quest and try again (the same trap could be a lot less dangerous or there might be no random trap at all).

    I missed the release note on this one. Discovered this new feature playing as an Artificer in Redfang on Elite, grouping with some new players on Wayfinder, had even stocked up some Neutralise Poison potions for a certain room. I thought I'd be immune to the poison for enough time to rush through the poison and save time disabling multiple trapboxes...got two-shotted.

    I had a moment between the first spray and second where I could have moved but incorrectly guessed it was the Falling Damage Bug (and that I should try healing up first before moving...)

    Overall I like the change in spirit - but it seems possible enough that the trap damage is currently bugged to be disproportionately high compared to other Elite/group scaling, have seen that kind of bug before in DDO.
