Since update 18, I have had one successful log in. I tried the login patch workaround - didnt work. I unistalled/ reinstalled the game, and after 3 attempts,I was able to log in and play. That was 3 days ago. Since then, I get through the character selection, but get the "game error message - connection lost" every time. My bind point is the tavern in Eveningstar. I have done approx 30 attempts, at various times, over the last 3 days with no success. I have looked through the forums for similar issues, and have found others experiencing this same problem, however, it doesnt seem to be affecting enough of us to garner any serious response from the powers that be.
Prior to the update, I had to take some time off from the game, and was really looking forward to returning when time permitted. To come back and find an utterly screwed up update, that required a complete reinstall, was quite a let down - I am consciously trying to be polite and diplomatic.
This is not a rage quit post - I thoroughly enjoy the game, but I understand completely the frustration many players feel when they post such sentiments. I wish there were some evidence to show on Turbines behalf that they genuinely cared about the quality of the product they put out. It takes things to a whole new level of frustration and absurdity when you long to experience a ladder bug, rubber banding quest lag, broken/inoperable feats etc... because you cant log into the game to begin with.
