Default What to do about pikers

Is there any way to officially report people who pike quests? I had a problem with a person on Thelanis. I failed two quests because the party needed as much DPS as possible. Without him, we failed. I spoke to him twice, and caught him doing it two more times. I contacted his guild leader, who said he has also had this problem with the same person. What options do players have other than just not questing with that person?

If you didn't boot him after the first instance, then you've really got no one but yourself to blame.

That said, no. There is no way to officially report people who pike. Nor should there be, in my personal opinion.

    Recall, reform, and squelch.

    Only thing you can do.

Default You are stuck with them

In my opinion, pikers are part of the game. If I choose to group with others(rarely) I fully expect pikers, and I fully expect people to be unable to do the quest by themselves.

I drag monsters back to the pikers once I figure out what they are doing. Then leave dungeon, they get the aggro if you do that because they are the only target.

    Boot them and restart.

Wasn't my LFM in the first place, in either instance. The other times were in raids so it wasn't a big deal.

    Agreed on both accounts.

If someone's piking is unacceptable or detrimental to completion, warn and/or boot them between quests. As you did warn them but not boot them after the repeated piking, I'm afraid the you can only blame yourself for the ensuing wipes.

Incidentally, what was contacting the offenders guild leader supposed to accomplish? Tattling to my mom never made me be nice to the tattler, it really just made them a target of priority. Granted, I've matured (a little :P) since grade school, but not everyone has...
I would still like to see... Something that tests character versatility and player adaptability rather than character focus strength and quest knowledge.
I play the quests for the content of the quests not just as an XP/min merry-go-round.
Actual play experience is worth infinitely more than theorycrafting...

    Why not?
Oh I don't know, maybe because it would be the biggest joke not to mention a huge waste of time to have Turbine legislate how people can play or not play beyond the basics that they already enforce. Let alone something as subjective as "he's a piker because I say so" let alone when simply reforming without them is an easy and common sense thing anyone can do.

How about because it would be abused 99% of the time by people who get into arguments or don't get along or have some silly guild drama going on... "he's piking my group punish him NAOOOOOW!"

How about because there's no way to prove something as subjective as "piking".

How about the best reason of all:

Because almost no one does that, and instances of intentional piking are rare to the point of it being a myth?

Maybe I'm lucky or maybe I don't spend "enough" time policing what other people are doing using the minimap and highlighting anyone who stops moving for more than 2 seconds to watch them like a hawk, but I've literally been on one quest (a Stormcleave about 3 years ago) where someone clearly joined at the start and hid himself in a safe spot immediately to pike then went unresponsive the whole quest then finally ran out for his chests after everything was done, and even that person claimed they were on the phone. And you know what? They might have been, and the timing was just pure coincidence, it's possible it just looked bad... Because none of you has ever had appearance or timing make something look bad that wasn't that at all right?

I've seen people get wife aggro, diaper aggro, phone, real life etc. and then start playing again, always apologizing for "having to pike" usually long before we finished and I've been the guy who got all those and then caught back up and apologized for piking... I've even joined a quest or three where the leaders said "just hang out and pike if you want XP we're almost done (Rainbow for example)... but "piking" as some form of intentionally lazy XP gathering activity is just not a thing... It's an isolated incident at best.

Answer the op question simply, or get the facts straight before wasting your time making a moot point.

I did, he said he was a friend and probably had a lag or some such, which I believed at the time, but made the connections once I saw it happen again. I'll say it to you as well, answer the OP question simply.

Well, and that's why I asked. To see if there was a way for it to be reported, tracked etc. What I gather from your post, it can't be easily done. Which you could have just said in your first post instead of "self righteously" slipping a smug and base insult under your attempt at making a point.

No no. I expected to get a simple answer. Instead I get people who think they are just so witty and cool and such good players who look down on everyone who isn't as cool and funny as them. If you can't provide the OP with a simple on topic answer, don't post. Simple as that.

Oh but I forgot, foruming and gaming are all you kind of people have. It's how you validate your existence.

That being said, I guess I have my answer. And I'm off to bed.

    Thanks guy! And "happy gaming"...

Your best option in the 0.001% of all LFM's that you'll ever encounter a true piker in; is to reform and take personal control over what you can (i.e. be accountable).

Hold someone accountable for Piking? How exactly? You know this is a game right? Exactly how in this hazy nebulous ill defined fantasy of accountability do you prove the act of piking, or the intent of the person beyond just "hear say" your words against the pikers? even if trying to do so wasn't just a massive silly waste of time over something that is nearly non existent in the game.

If it was even possible, what punishment fits "the crime" of piking? Being excluded from your and the 4 other people in your quest's groups? Do you REALLY need Turbine to click the squelch button for you? How's that going to work? A 4 Judge tribunal? Trial by GM listening to "he said she said" and making a wild guess? How long you going to wait around in a "Piker accusation ticket que" for the GM to come adjudicate your case? Opps whats this? Vint accused me a piking... click "open ticket" click "Report Piker" types "Vint" yeah right back at you... buddy... Yeah this sounds like something Turbine should totally try to police LOL.

To OP, i hear you, there was a guy who piked a entire quest in my group yesterday then i asked at the end and he said "oh i don't want a repair bill" but i suppose its better than the patronising lies that some use to pike, anyway it was not a issue i simply remember his name, kick him and explain to the group the LFM is back up for someone who wants to play.

Noting you can do about them, just deal with it without anger move on and have fun

I wont word lawyer with you. If someone joins my party and I deem that they are worthless or piking, I will let them know what I think. Then we will be back here again next week while people here console the guy that was piking.

What options do players have other than just not questing with that person?
    1) Find a quest they're in and pike.
    2) Look for them and grief them every chance you get.
    3) Be uber enough to complete while people pike.
Now personally, I find not questing with an irritant to be the best, simplest solution. However as you seem to need other options, there ya go

There are one or two quests where Pikers annoy me.... quests like The Snitch. The ones where you need to repeatedly gather the whole party. Or quests like Misery's Peak where the whole party needs to get in the final room.
I don't normally have problems with pikers if they are open about it. If they get on my nerves then I add them to my ignore list and hope that gives me a little protection from having them join my LFMs... If they got on my nerves then I leave the group asap and go do something else. I don't think I was ever annoyed enough to boot someone directly, but a group with annoying pikers is no fun, and I'd rather go back to guild/solo runs for a while. (Yes Pikers are the #2 reason why I don't post many LFMs. Hirelings are the #1 reason)
