I play on Thelanis and I bid 2 astral shards and 50pp on the potiion of trudh.
I am alright with the expansion. If I weren't I wouldn't have bought it. I had thought about waiting for the inevitable price drop...but that would be months away.
So...I don't eat skippy peanut butter for a couple of weeks...and rather than real bacon I have to make do with turkey bacon. The sacrifices I make for this game are unimaginable to many people.
Turkey bacon instead of regualr bacon? Yep.

It's not really an expansion as it's used to be called.
In fact, the name expansion shouldn't be anywhere near Shadowfell.
It's a freemium marketing strategy all Freemium MMORPG's utilise.

Does that potion give you -6 to INT and WIS as well as an immunity to rational thought?
I bought it and fine with it.
1. its under $100
2. If we do not help support the game do not expect it to be around much longer unless WB makes a profit from it.
Well for what was spent on it, if I smoked I could have bought me 2 cartons of smokes.
The haters here will always hate.
I am on a tight budget and saved $10-$15 a month so I could get it.
It can be bought through Aug 19.
When I drove my cab if anyone needed it for 2 hours guess what it cost them. $100
The owlbear lvl 17 is as good as the cat. The lvl 25 much better.
Well the character slots did increase my max beyond the 40 where it was.
To each their own.

Hilarious Princess....Sorry your life is so medicore after all this time..Lol, you are scared of a farmer? with a tractor....?
It is an expansion in the sense that it is giving you access to two new area's that you could not get to before. I would bet that the base cost would be the same if they did this as an expansion or if they did it at as an adventure pack. I'm a premium, so the fact that VIP's would get it for free if it was a pack dosen't effect me. Sorry VIP's.
That being said, the collectors edition does not really appeal to me this time. I prefer Eberron content, so FR content is a harder sell for me. The ED's and the Panther sold me on the CE last time. I will probably pick up the standard edition and the upgrade before August.

The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.
Bought the expansion and the upgrade (Actually ended up being an early Father's Day gift).
I do not feel as some others seem to feel. It feels like I got my $ worth. I even have an issue with 1 toon not getting the owlbears...which I have reported 3 times and still no response.
I do not care for Cosmetic pets or outfits...those are junk to me and just take up space. I did need the extra character slots and I do like the iconic heroes (Just as they are right now...reincarnating can take a while if they want...not really interested in it for those characters).
The owlbears are buggy right now, PRR doesn't work and if you are not an arti that can enchant them....they don't break any DR. Their damage is ok...but should be a bit higher imo...I see great crits, but the standard hits are slow and iffy.
All in all for me...it was cost effective. I figure the same as before...more content will be added in future updates that will carry the storyline. MotU was a good buy for me also. All this free stuff REALLY adds up on a toon. Only thing I am wishing for is some lower level animal companions...I really like the perm-hirelings.
Obviously someone in marketing feels there's a market for the expansion the way it is packaged. If one finds that markteting a severe turn off, based on price/item/content/etc, it's equally possible that you're not the primary customer the expansion is being marketed to in the first place (it could just as plausibly be that you're not the customer they're interested in serving, fwiw). It's wrong-headed to assume any company treats all its customers equally. Heavy users, to quote Super Size Me, are going to get special attention in marketing because they are in fact bringing a clearer benefit to the bottom line, and companies, to the extent they exist at all, are focused on their bottom line if they intend to survive. Nor does one truly know whether their personal distate for a particular product represents the true feeling of the broader market, or is a just reinforced feedback loop created by a very limited circle of customers who frequent a common social board. Unless you're actually reading their balance sheet, you've got little more than speculation to go on as to whether a product is or isn't packaged and marketed properly to maximize their revenue.
As for delivering less product at a higher cost, welcome to capitalism as we've been practicing it for decades. Turbine isn't a social welfare organization, nor is economics a morality play, so I very much expect them to maximize their margins to the degree possible. Does it keep the servers functioning, it should, but it could also just be used for paying for Beyonce to play the birthday parties of the WB executives. You want to know that, or have real standing for commentary beyond product review, then buy WB stock or invest in anything that gives you a piece of Turbine's ownership and a seat/voice at the table.
I'm happy with the expansion as purchased, but that's me. I don't expect others to share that feeling, as circumstances will dictate the relative value of the expansion to everyone else differently. But, there's millions of products I don't purchase every day because the relative value of those products to me is not enough to justify the outlay of my financial resources. That said, I don't feel it necessary, even if I was an existing customer, to take it personally that a particular product wasn't to my liking.
I'm still happy with my MOTU purchase, but even if that had turned out a poor choice for me, endlessly navel-gazing about money you can't recover is about as useless an endeavor as there is.
Anecdotally, as someone one of whose business interests serve customers in a luxury retail capacity, primarily price-focused customers almost always tend to believe they represent a larger market share for luxury expenditures than they truly do. MMOs are a luxury good, and as such, most people make luxury purchases because they want it only, not because they need it, and therefore the psychology of what they will pay is vastly different than buying say shampoo. My business interest gets the occaisional complaintant as far as pricing, and the industry has its share as well, but in truth they represent a tiny fraction of potential customers that will undoubtedly complain regardless of price point (though this also tends to be a male, moreso than female, trait - we call it the "getting a good deal" mentality), so they quickly become customers that are generally ignored as to product and pricing decisions. Is it worth it to attempt to please them, financially speaking, no.

The real purpose of any forum is for a bunch of people to stroke one another about how great the product is, and how much they love it.
In fact, every thread on the DDO forum should start with "I am so in love with DDO, I wish I could have its love child," and then an additional explanation of the post.

As for your ascertation that no one here cares if you buy the expansion or the reasons why you didn't buy it - the largest mistake a company can make is what you just stated. Why? Because without customers, the company doesnt exist. The users are the most important people in the equation, period, and when they are not satisfied, they have all the clout they need to provide that information to the company.
You may believe that youre actually defending the company by verbally going after users who provide negative feedback, but youre not. Youi should be thanking those users who do, because when the product improves, the negative feedback was acted on which caused a positive change. If everyone reacted like yourself, and never asked for improvement of the product, the product would stagnate and never get better.
Theres plenty more than that, and all I had to do was type "Wallmart protest" into Google. Goofball eh?
Advocating repeated nerfs in the name of "balancing the game" then complaining about how DDO is moving away from D&D, is a direct contradiction in logic - D&D 3.5 (what DDO is based on) is not a balanced game. We can either have a balanced clone MMO with homogenized classes, or we can have a D&D game. We cant have both.
