Because I am a bit OCD, if I were in charge of DDO I would update some of the old and outdated aspects of the game.

    - Spell lists, especially the Cleric, Ranger and Paladin spell lists need to be updated. Example: Most of the second tier pallie spells are made obsolete by equipment. Example 2: Rangers get 2 offensive spells that are DC-based but have few means or reasons to raise their spell DCs.

    - Ship buffs need an update, the House K and House D ship buffs both give 1 DR, for instance, and these sources of DR do not stack.

    - Favor rewards should be revised to be made more useful. Note that the final tier of The Twelve favor gives nothing, and Free Agents favor is only useful to characters that can make traps. Also, I'm not sure how useful the "extended spells" given by House J and the Church of the Silver Flame are.

On a separate but related note to the first point, Clerics need Domains, in some form or another so that they can add new spells to their spell lists. Otherwise there isn't much reason to play a Cleric over an FvS without that added versatitilty that a Cleric brings. I would suggest a few basic PrEs/trees that all clerics would be able to choose from: Offensive casting (choose an element, maybe?), Melee/War and Healing/Support. These would be in addition to whatever PrEs/trees that race and/or faith give access to.

I have some ideas that I would like to share also.

    1) Make greensteel decon an actual in game mechanic. Enough is enough with it being a store bought only feature. Was a huge slap in the face to the customers/players that have requested the feature for years. Have the dopant available for purchase at the guy by the Meridia altar, unlocked with 250 Favor, which is worthless atm.

    2) Allow for instant teleport to quest entrance an option for players that do not enjoy running through wilderness a bazilion times.

    3) Add an instakill for all types of classes not just casters. Maybe a head chopping strike for barbarians, a sword to the heart for fighters, a headshot for rangers, and so on. Maybe will caught down on the whine for caster nerfs.

    4) Give completionist feat free for all that earned it. It is no small task even with all the bonus to xp now.

    5) Allow for players to re-run quests without having to turn in rewards and reacquire quest. Maybe make all quests walk-ups so you can just abandon and pick it back up. (Mostly for solo players as at times I like to solo and just xp farm.)

    6) Do away with all non-raid chains flagging requirements. For example, Shadow Crypt. Why should we have to run four other quests just to open this quest. It is not a raid and people already work around it with openers as it is. No need for flagging requirements for non-raids.

    7) Since I am on the topic of raids, do away with all pre-raids. Especially DQ1. Find it boring and time consuming to do DQ1 and Von 5 before the actual raid. You would only have to do it once for the flagging and be done unless you want to run it for xp.

    8) I would move the expansion towards Myth Drannor and the Pool Of Radiance area. (Just nostalgic purposes as I grew up playing the Gold Box series on my Commodore 64. Still love those games.) Would love to face off against Tyranthraxus for control of the Pool of Radiance.

    9) Expand Cannith Crafting as others have mentioned. Add a masterful craftmanship shar II, reduces minimum level by three unlocked when you max out all crafting schools and gain 200 House C favor.

    10) Also remove TR timers. If you can do a TR life in a day, more power to you. But you should not have to wait to TR again.

    11) Allow use of Greater Teleport in public instances but make it so that it only works with party members and also increase regular teleport areas such as House C and maybe some custom one like others have suggested.

Could go on but I feel this post is too long already. I also like some other ideas that have been mentioned such as lowering TR XP, increase level range for Bravery, and reducing Bravery penalty by one each time you break streak instead of going back to zero just to name a few.

I still love this game even though it has its flaws and blatant cash grabs. Hope it continues to grow and thrive for a few more years.

-make any BTC item i want, BTA for a fee (for commendations or smt else)

-give a way to upgrade any EN-EH item to an EE version

-remove EN-EH versions of quests and have the old EPICs back

    -put augments on eveninstar epics

-new cannith crafting levels (make it meaningful again)

-make all crafting ingredients from challenges BTA

    1. Have developers/programmers work on new raids. I would have them make about 4-5 new, epic level 25 or better raids before ANY other additional content, ddo store fluff, or game mechanic changes. As soon as three were ready, I would release them, 1 ftp, and 2 which you could only access by purchase of the new expansion , so there would be two raids for it, just not released at the same time as the quests. Make these raids available to people who pre-purchased the expansion at least for two weeks before anyone else could buy them. Two more raids would follow as an expansion pack. I would look very hard at the design of the loot for these raids to make sure it was sufficiently good that everyone wanted the items, and they were more powerful than anything currently in game that was comparable.

    2. Once that was done, complete the enhancement pass and any and all other "passes" of game mechanics and items the developers or I thought were absolutely necessary. Then I would be sure the rules of the games were never changed again, forcing people to redo their toons, and put all emphasis on new content development.

    3. Release Epic Amrath with the new enhancement pass, complete with epic tod rings and set bonuses that were truly epic.

    4. For all items, increase drop rates on epic elite by about 10-15 X.

    5. Put a raid style 2 minute death timer on all deaths in epic elite content.

    6. Have every group of mobs in epic content have a cleric with them that casts mass deathward as its first action. Eliminate blanket immunities.

    7. Bring back the XP on death penalty, make sure permanent level drains were in effect were in place for people who lost sufficient xp to lose levels.

    8. Expand epic destinies when the level cap is raised, much as the enhancements were expanded when heroic levels were raised in the past.

    9. Give arcane casters double spellpower in epic hard and quadruple spellpower in epic elite raids. Currently arcane catsers in these raids are relegated to trash control and kiting, or sucking down lots of pots to do boss damage, making then unequivocally inferior to melee and ranged dps toons in these raids.

    10. Give reasonable and realistic droprates on elite difficulty to the following items which have absurdly small droprates:
    yellow dopant
shard of the ring of spell storing

    11. Reduce turbine's cut of the astral shard auction house to 10% for bta items, 5% for regular items. Allow in-game purchase of astral shards at a rate of something like 20,000 plat per astral shard. Get rid of daily dice casino and dump it in the same trash can that the offer wall went in. (I actually believe this might encourage many more ppl to use these things and increase sales of them in ddo store overall, over time).

    12. revert the forums back to their older state, or fix them quickly

    13. require that everyone who develops this game actually plays it for at least 2 hours of each workday on live servers without godmode

I checked this thread last night when it was only a handful of replies, not going to read all the additions, just going to assume there are some gem ideas and some turd ideas and add my ideas to the pile (hoping that they add more to the gem side of the equation and less to the turd side).

1 - Bugs. Given the current state of the game, I would probably just stop development of content until the current (and vast) crop of bugs was properly investigated and repaired.

2 - Take a step back and look at what worked and what didn't. This includes personnel.

3 - Accessibility. In the hopes of making the game accessible to the most people possible, the game has been steadily alienating the diehard fans who stuck by before the freemium conversion. Even a lot of the players that came with the conversion are being shunted to the side by the continued shaving of the learning curve (is it even a curve anymore?)

4 - Player input. Before any new content began being worked on, I'd set up a thread for nothing but voting on what the player base would like, story wise. Post up three or four ideas with rough summaries of what the story arc would contain and whether it would tie in to existing arcs.

    ------------------------------

In reality, I'd be fired after executing step one since bug fixes do not create profit.

UI: Display the current Zork text game scrawl given by "/quest completions and /quest" in its own window in the adventure compendium - also show raid timers.

UI: Popup Indicative Icons on each individual party member health bar if set to "Large Mode" that has just a few possible icons for "Cursed", "Diseased", "Poisoned", "Neg Level(s)", "Stat Damage", "Imobilized" to help hjealers.

Add a new weapon to the game. Obviously that didn't go great with handwraps... but maybe if you're less ambitious... a real polearm?... spear? We know you have some set of animators cranking out pets... one new weapon please.

Be more D&D. *** are iconic heroes? Sounds like a marketing fart-out term. They should be called "Subraces" (w. added Lore). I actually applaud giving the game something new while not further increasing the class/race total load that has to go into the ever-pushing-out heroic enhancement system redo. Plus you can put it in the store and get $$ for your work. Just hope it doesn't steal too much time from the system devs that are already spending most of their time dealing with two totally separate enhancement system branches.

Eh... I've already talked enough. Just tell us you're making THE TITAN (with totally redone end Titan fight) or THE SHROUD epic after the expansion and we'll forgive your lack of expansion raid.
I'm sold, all very good changes!

    (1) Extend house P and J buffs to one hour.
    (2) Freeze guild ship and house buffs in public zones.
    (3) Commit to a static level cap for an extended (3 year?) period of time. This is important, as the "end" game of DDO is a combination of TR + "playing at cap". Moving too many things at once can break both.
    (4) Rework TRing to make it easier (increasing XP for late-teens quests - including Shavarath, Cannith, etc. or reducing TR requirements) since the reward for TRing is so much less w/ EDs in play. This and the one above will keep people playing longer. Give current completionists one time bonus to represent the fact they did it the harder way.
    (5) Remove bravery streak from paid-raids. Consider removing it entirely, but keeping a decent first-time XP bonus based on difficulty.
    (6) Pick any of the suggestions for making old seal/scroll/shard epics more useful and implement them. Trade-able components, generic components ... something. Consider also replacing all newly made epic items with stat bonuses to instead have a slot-based-stat and come pre-slotted.
    (7) Allow greater (raid) tokens of the twelve to be converted to heroic comms and vice versa, at some rate (doesn't need to be 1:1)
    (8) Scrap previewed enhancement system. Start over. Decide if they are meant to be PREs, or meant to help you balance classes at the core between each other - and design from there up. No burying necessary class-balance items in specific PREs, etc.
    (9) Stop doing E/H/N versions of all loot. Make some loot that way, but really not everything. Some named items should simply be ... named ... and what they are.
    (10) Work on grouping tools a bit, including port-to-quest.
    (11) Consider adding explorer zone "gather" type quests. Make explorer zone encounters reset over time. Make (some) explorer zones instanced so multiple parties can be in the same one.
    (12) Make it easier to get to and from Reaver's Refuge ;-)
    (13) Up the content of hearts of wood in the daily dice & store items in end rewards, etc.

Two words. Ko. Bolds. I'd finally add the pinnacle of greatness to this game: playable kobolds.

Then I'd have the team just get back what they were doing before. The game has taken some nice direction lately in terms of *overall* design. Yes there are some screw ups and dumb choices, but comparing the game now to when it released - I personally think all the 4th ed creeping in is making it a lot more fun and makes the classes way more interesting than they were before, hands down. A couple classes have interesting abilities and flair where before they simply did not. I played and enjoyed 3/3.5, but I never understood the fascination with it's utterly flat character feel with regards to the more melee-heavy classes. Obviously the RP-ability of an edition is moot in terms of PC game engines (and moot anyway, I don't see how any good RP'er would be in any way crippled moving from one edition to another. People are just grumpy about 4th for some reason!) so I'm talking purely about class design and style.

The problems now I think stem primarily from the engine itself and the way they are having to go about adding and doin things where it's beginning to get all kinds of awkward. I don't think the original devs ever imagined the sorts of things being added which are! Therein lies the rub, as it were, because engines are not an easy thing to replace or change heavily, and it seems to me they are having to really poke and prod it to do what they want to do now.

There are different things suggested to adjust "how" ... but the basic problem is replay value in DDO has taken a nose dive.

    - N/H/E loot where the H is trivial to farm, but is pretty close to the E. Make the gear static; make the augments (20 PRR, globe of imperial blood, whatever) and some key items (Mindfury) the things you chase ... and make them worth chasing.
    - EDs making TRing less valuable.
    - Lack of motivation from the moving level-cap and impending enhancement pass.
    - Old epics not worth playing / farming for gear ... some gear is too had to get, all of it needs an update as it's pretty much worthless at 25 and I can only imagine will be even less useful at 28.
    - Bravery streak and dungeon scaling honestly limits grouping - I say this having done the 270 or whatever streak to cap myself ... and due to reality, primarily solo. It also limits end-ish-game raiding.

There have been some AWESOME changes lately ... augments in general and updates to older named items (luckblade, etc.) but the forest through the trees is essentially that replay value has dropped off due to a large number of factors that combine together to de-incent play.

I'd lower Trap damage on Elite quests... just seems over the top to me

And would also give the Airship Training Dummy 50 HP (Total)

    1) beseech management to give some of DDO's senior talent back. Since announcing the MOBA project, the number of sloppy highly visible mistakes the team has made has increased. My conclusion is that the team has been scavenged of talent to code this project.

    2) XP Ransack timers. Abolish permanent repetition penalties. Punishing people for playing the game is bad design.

    3) To quote Mark Rosewater, head designer of Magic: the Gathering: "Restrictions breed creativity." The Bestamest 2 handed weapon in the game for years has been the Epic Sword of Shadows. It's too good. The only way to get better is power creep. Since nerfing that glorious-glorious damage would cause 2/3rds of the population to ragequit; make the Epic Sword of Shadows be made of "shadow". Decreased durability and hardness. Still the all-around hardest hitting sword in the game, but it'll break in 4 minutes. All-around just became situational. More design space to explore without resorting to powercreep. Also make sure it has code that each forum post citing this as a "cash grab" or "scheme to get us to use astral shards for in-dungeon repairs" permanently decreases its durability by one.

    4) Get rid of Raid bypass timers. It's insulting that raid timers are a strictly arbitrary hurdle placed in the game, and selling something to bypass this mechanic is wrong. Either the timers are needed to prolong longevity and the bypasses should be abolished; or not having the artificial longevity is not game breaking and the timers should be abolished all together.

    5) Consistency. Epic Dungeon Tokens are Tokens of the Twelve to explain why they aren't in Faerun... so why aren't they in Gianthold? "Heroic Commendations" should be Greater Tokens of the Twelve perhaps with a slight increase in cost from the 3/5/7 values they have now, since their value is slightly diminished because of the greater availability. Also, there are too many disparate crafting systems in the game already. consolidate.

5b) Enhancement Pass - There's 2 problems with the current enhancement system. 1 - It's not done. and 2 - It has a bad UI. The Alpha preview has shown that the proposed UI is just as bad since it can't convey level restrictions, what higher tier benefits of the ability get, etc. Also, it's been posted that upon release, IT WON'T BE DONE! ... Uhhh... That's not Progress. Stop going back to the drawing board with every new update. Refine the existing systems, embellish them, but for the love of Gawd, STOP RECREATING THEM.

    6) Bard pass. All Bard abilities go from "morale" bonuses to the unique, stacking, "Bardic/Skaldic/ItsStupidThatIHaveToWorkToBeEquivalentToAFighterOn lyToHaveTheFighterBeBetterSinceHeWearsMyBonusesOnH isGear" type. Songs effects happen while Bards play them, not after they're done. Cuz the magic's in the music, not the subsequent silence... right?

    7) Insist on more Perforce training for the team. The number of times an old bug is reintroduced because someone's local working repository is out of date is getting comical.

    8) Change the Development model to a Development -> Staging -> Production ethic. It doesn't hit live unless it's been on Lamania. MajMal and Kookie and Squeak can veto updating Production if Lammania is broken.

Read a lot of this thread but not all of so some of what I post may be repeats.

Extend the auto timeout on posting on forums to 10 minutes.

Add 2 ring slots, a brooch slot, 2 ear ring slots, and a greaves slot to equipment.

    Scroll cases. Potion boleros.

A full blown library where a character can research the lore of the land, flora and fauna. Maybe have a small turn in reward for those odd books, notes etc we pick up here and there and end up destroying.

Remove all stat damage from weapons-it doesn't work against bosses so it's just taking up space.

No more BTC-> should be BTCoE

Bound items should be raid loot only all generated loot should be unbound.

Named items should always be uber compared to loot gen items for that level.

If it's a level 20 quest, the loot should be level 20-> all the loot.

A Flat 10% charge on all astral diamond and regular auction hall sales.

Keep feather from changing anything unless a majority of players agree.

Fix 30% of the known bugs with every patch and every update.

If new content will introduce more bugs than will be fixed with that patch do not introduce the new content until those bugs are fixed. If it has less bugs but 1 or more of those bugs break a skill, stat, spell do not introduce new content until it is fixed.

Crafting should produce things better than at level generated items and not available in the game except through crafting.

If a particular skill doesn't improve above a certain level then autolock any further spending of points when we reach the max. Example Jump-does nothing more once you have 40 with/without items bonuses but we can still apply points beyond that.

Don't force us to take an ability we don't want or use just to get one we like. If certain abilities are not being used make them useful or remove them entirely.

Crafting is boring and useless so I don't craft-which means I don't need junk loot in my chests. Give me a choice to get jewelry or gems instead. I like jewelry and gems.

Lower the exp needed to get to level 20 on 3rd lives and beyond. It makes for a very dreary process.

The game does NOT have to look and act like WOW Most of us are here because it used to NOT look and act like WOW. Scrap the Enhancement pass-do something else.

Adjust xp on older quests Up. I know you guys track what quests are played the most-find the ones no one likes and revamp them!

A level increase at this time just adds headaches and a whole lot of people don't even want it yet. A 3 level increase doesn't even make sense. Wait until you can add 10 or more levels that's when you do it.

It makes me want to cry when I see thousands of people playing NWO and only a handful on my server. NWO is inferior in a lot of places to DDO. You can cap your character in less than a week and no reincarnation. They are more expensive when it comes to specials in game. It's not all because of it being new. Find out what they are doing and go after that customer base!

Oh..give us an option to just kill Coyle outright!

As far as challenges go, I would like to see more challenge packs, I would just like to see the XP for them scale based on how good you do in the challenge (star objectives AND score), and I don't mean just the first time you run the challenge. getting the 6th star should give you 2x the xp you would get for a 5 star run.

The star objectives should increase with each star earned,.. say you just get one star, well you would get base XP plus 10% base for the one star, however if you get 2 stars you should get base XP plus 12% base for first star, and 18% base for second star. A 3 star run should give base xp + 15% base for 1st star, 21% base for 2nd star, 27% base for 3rd star. A 4 star run would give base XP + 19% base for first star, 25% base for 2nd star, 31% base for 3rd star, 37% base for 4th star. A 5 star run would give 24% base for first star, 29% base for second star, 35% base for 3rd star, 41% base for 4th star, and 50% base for 5th star. And the 6 star run would give base xp + 33% base for first star, 39% base for 2nd star, 45% base for 3rd star, 52% base for 4th star, 64% base for 5th star, and 225% base for the 6th star! on top of this, add xp based on score, a scaling multiplier of between 1.0 and 1.25. (if your over level for the challenge, your score will be very low and thus not add very much if any to your xp) also keep the over level penalties for score as they are.

challenges should be challenging, but they should also be rewarding for doing a good job in the challenge.

    9) Revamp Challenge XP system.

    A) XP awarded is a function of Score.
    B) Stars attained act as "Challenge XP Amplification", they are applied multiplicatively. Each Star 'amps' XP by 120%. (a la Healing Amp application)
    C) Stars add a base value to score when attained.
--Kobold Island wants you to have 3 large extractors running? +3600 score to offset the score drop from using the dragonshards.
--Kill the first Boss: +0 It's the base requirement.
--Kill the Archon +50 It's relatively easy and it drops its own bonus shards.
--Leave the Entropic Skellie alive for 4 minutes +2000
--Open all 16 doors +8000 (You're gunna be sitting here for 45 minutes, make it worth your time)

    D) Mats returned are consistent. All return 50, 75, 60, some consistent arbitrary point... Kobold Island returning 17% but Buying Time returning 75% is wacky.
    E) Set a floor for overlevel penalty on Max CR challenges. Fine, CR 14 Behind the Door can bottom out at 5% mats returned. CR 15 should bottom out at 50%-ish for an overlevel character.

Give us the ability to look at our quest log and see it by quest chain and in quest order.

The Guild tab of the Social pane should have a 'guild name' associated with the players account name so you can easily see who's who.

Please add stairs/ladder/rope on the north side of the bank plaza; It was a big day when I had enough jump on a char to avoid having to climb there. My lower guys have to climb up at the flower boxes.

    I would:

    1) Remove dungeon scaling. If someone wants to solo they can run it on an easier difficulty.

    2) Remove the different loot at different difficulties, and revise the XP bonuses for harder difficulties. If we want players to run harder difficulties make the XP bonus the incentive because that doesn't impact build gap based on gear.

    3) Revamp dungeon alert. Too many quests run it up too fast and suddenly getting clipped into molasses mode is absolutely not fun.

    4) Remove DM Fiat mechanics, adjusting several quests and possibly shortening the duration of some specific spells. Those are not fun ways to balance quests either and with the repetition required for leveling in DDO become an over-used mechanic.

    5) Create a pass on game effects for consistency. For example, ship buffs where some are enhancement and 2 are morale, or dodge bonuses where some add to AC while others actually add to the the dodge bonus. Insistent bonuses are counter-intuitive for players.

    Those are the big ones.

The priority after that would be adding player build options and additional quests of all levels. Having more quests and options than players can make use of appeals to a lot of the TR's, casual players, and altaholics; which I believe is a considerable portion of the player base. Right now there seems to be too much focus on new player and epic grinders, but not so much everybody else.

Since we've ventured into FR I would include adding other campaign settings, offering to start in other worlds and supply quests from first level up in them with the option to change worlds at upper levels like now. Adding the frequently requested Sharn expansion would also be on the table -- I'm not about to give up on the campaign setting we've had since 2005 before the game opened up in 2006.

Build options would be spells, songs, possibly some feats, more races, more PrE options. Much of the attraction to this game is in the build options and right now the only focus we see is increasing epic levels and the enhancement pass. We should be able to create lot more momentum in this regard to catch player interest.
