Exclamation Code of Conduct & Pre-order Code Trades

Is it not against the code of conduct to go into /trade offering to trade expansion pre-order codes that have a monetary value for in-game items or vice versa?

The logic somewhat follows that once someone buys the code, Turbine gets that money, and the code itself no no longer has monetary value as it can only be used to add onto someone's account. By trading this code for an item(s) in game, Turbine gets their money, the code stays in the game and it's being trading for something that has no monetary value (as items within the game can't leave the game).

What is against the TOS is if someone made a trade outside of the game for the code or for items....for instance, someone selling plat/items/codes etc and asking for money via paypal or another site is forbidden. someone is selling something with no real world value and collecting money for it. It's against TOS because Turbine is not getting that money, a player is.

Now, while Turbine has never come out and said these (codes for in game items) are allowed, they have never said they aren't either. There are enough cases of it happening that one, until told otherwise, can assume it's ok to do. The main concern is that if a deal goes south, you have no recourse. Turbine does not, under any circumstance, moderate trades between players. If you lose out, don't get paid, etc. you're out your item, and as the codes have no monetary value once purchased (since they cannot be resold for money) you are not eligible for re compensation. If turbine openly said this was ok, they may open themselves to problems of having to moderate it or creating a mechanism to protect players similarly to how people trade items and have to approve the trade. By being gray on the issue, you can make the trade, at your own risk, and they don't have to intervene and therefore bear no responsibility.

TLR Turbine allows it, by not saying you can't, but you're on your own if the trade goes bad:seller/buyer beware.
