Default Shadowfall - I just want the hireling, extra 50 bucks?

So I looked on the ddo.com page, saw the expansion, $49.99 for collectors edition - well, I really am on a tight budget but might swing 49.99. Saw it contained Bladeforged Iconic Hero, neat, a perm hireling, I need that! And, it only includes a few quests but maybe I can stretch for the prospect of more in the future. Character slots sure make it more attractive so maybe someday I can come off VIP if I get enough slots and packs.

Then I saw the Legenday Upgrade and thought, Wow, an Owlbear hireling, even better, but wait, that must mean that Bladeforged Paladin above was a class or a mislabelled cosmetic companion. But heck, I'll order before the date so I'll get the owlbear and even if its level 24 that's something better than nothing.

So I went to the Purchase page, not gonna buy yet, gotta check finances, but thought I'd check it out.

WHOA! -ADDITIONAL- $39.99 for the "upgrade" including hireling?

That price was NOT mentioned on the ddo.com page, the ddo.com page clearly led me to believe it was a perk if I ordered before a date (was it June 5)?

And, all I want really is the hireling. I don;t want more timed elixirs that penalize me as a slow player and I can live without those other tomes for saving the $$$

    A) I'd like a clarification on the advertising, do I really have to pay $90 to get the hireling?

And b) if it IS extra, Turbine should really add the additional cost to the front page. That's an oversight that will really hurt them in the arena of consumer reputation. It's early yet, I know there are bound to be errors, I'm just trying to give useful feedback fast enough to head off misunderstandings.

You can buy hirelings in game for trivial amounts of plat.

I gotta assume many folks (if not most) already have the Lesser tome per character... So it really is $39.99 for a owlbear? thats ridiculous....

Well it's tomes of epic learning, i don't have those on each character. Also the skill tomes are ok, seems the value isn't horrible but it's pretty clear why they put the hireling in the legendary upgrade.

2 Questions if someone could answer them ? Is the hireling a gold seal one and do you get him right on the preorder ? Or on expansion release ?

This is what I will do. No way I'm paying 20$ more for 2 Character slot, 2 useless Iconic Heroes, 1k TP and Greater Tome of Epic learning.

Legendary upgrade seems to me to be poorly thought out cash grab.

I won't be picking that up.

Just does not make sense to me.

Sadly, Bladeforged Iconic Hero isn't a permanent hireling - it's a kind of class/race combo that can't TR, and starts at level 15.

    About the hireling(s):

Yes, you can buy them in-game but you can only have one in-game hireling as opposed to the gold-deal hirelings and they disappear under certain circumstances, especially if you're a slow quester like me. I love my Panther, it was the main reason I bought the last expansion and frankly one of the key things that kept me interested in DDO as it greatly increased my chance of survival and success at questing.

    As for the upgrade:

I guess I felt a little misled, the DDO page didn't say a separate price for the upgrade and so I had it in my mind I could get "the exppansion" for $49.99. I thought the 20% discount was meant for the whole shebang.

Only when I went to the purchase page did I find out I would have to spend an additional $40 if I wanted it. From what I read on the main page it appeared to be a part of the "expansion" which I thought was an "upgrade."

None of this would matter if money wasn't tight for me. But I can't imagine I'm not alone being short on funds in the MMO world, am I that unusual?

Sorry for the confusion. The information and pricing on the Legendary Upgrade should now be clear on the DDO Market.

Why I shall wait til after the Launch and pick up the Owlbear alone, if I still want one by then.

Indeed, I love the new permanent hireling vendor. Wait, what? There is no such thing as a vendor that sells permanent hirelings? Then I guess you didn't have the point you thought you did.

Default Owlbear hireling is 49.99+ 39.99

So, yup 90 bucks for the owlbear hireling.

Who says they don't do stuff for VIPs?

Permanent Hireling, Lesser Tome of Learning per character, & much more! Offer only available at checkout with Shadowfell Conspiracy purchases.

Not to be picky but the preorder page states Epic Tome of Learning, while the market says Tome of Learning. That distinction is a pretty important one, at least to me. Also the hireling counts as gold seal one and is available right away right ?

Wait til after the x-pac launches and pick up the bear separately.

Why spend so much money for something we know will be available later on for TP?

Comment : the Tomes are not the same as the last expansion. These are "epic learning" and provide bonuses to Epic XP... with the cap raise to 28 I can see those being somewhat valuable.
