Default Warforged Solar Phoenix (Advice Welcome)

I'm working on my Monk life at the moment (Warforged Completionist), and while I intend to remain a Monk for a while I'd like to plan out my next build. I love how survivable my Monk life is proving (Wisdom base Light monk), but I would like to have trap skills to make my leveling easier (Self sufficiency is great, and cleric hirelings are cheap, but trappers are a bit more rare). I've seen Solar Phoenix build before, and while I hear they have been nerfed with recent updates I think they could still be a blast. I'm working on a Warforged Completionist, so the race must be Warforged. I'm mainly looking for suggestion about feats, play style, etc. The current plan is to use the Monk Past life feat for better unarmed strikes, high healing amp for decent healing from light strikes, and full search, UMD, DD, and concentration ranks. (traded a rank in DD and Search at level 20 for max UMD).

Q: Do you think the Light monk prestige class is worth taking for this build? Should I swap stunning fist for toughness, and move feats around for something else?
A: I could swap PL: Monk and stunning fist for wf: slash and Whirling steel if that would be better, but I don't know.

Q: Does Paladin Devotion increase the power of the healing ki finisher?
    Is it worth it?
A: Really not entirely sure here. Devotion would help my healing spells, but I'd like a bit more out of it, hence I'm curious about healing ki.

Q: Why Artificer instead of Rogue?
A: Artificer gives me +1 UMD, a dog to pull levers, free artificer wands at level 1, Repeating xbow proficiency for giggles, some spells, and +2 will. I lose 1d6+3 sneak, 4 balance, 4 haggle, 3 jump, +2 reflex, +2 trap saves. Both seem like strong choices, but I went with Artificer.

Any Suggestions are welcome, and I look forward to your feedback.

    Thanks,
    -PaxsMickey

i could be wrong here but doesn't solar phoenix rely also on vampirism? here you only rely on healing ki. if solar phoenix also uses vampirism then your build is dead on the drawing board and you have a big gap between the two.

Warforged race with normal healing seems at cross-purposes. You should consider changing strategies. Consider a warforged version of wax_on's Unarmed Lich build https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...med-Lich-build

I have a crafting toon, and have a few wraps with vamparism already. I'm working on a Warforged Completionist, and need a Paladin life to do that, I also would like the 5% healing amplification each paladin life provides.

Warforged have an initial -50% healing amp. with healer's friend you can reduce that to -20%. with a blood docent by another 10%.

On my monk build right now I have: -50% warforged, +20% monk enhancements, +30% healer's friend, +10% blood docent, +25% from fire stance with Jidz bracers, +10% ship buff.

I have almost no trouble maintaining full hp. If I were a human or half elf I'd have even less of an issue, but I like playing a warforged, and will take the -40% difference to play a race I love (and I'm in a Warforged Guild).

I see no reason why this build shouldn't work, I just wanted advice on what sort of changes to the phoenix build should be taken since the last few updates changed the way healing ki works.

vampirism doesnt work with healing amp on warforged. it just repairs you without regard for healing amp.

Are you certain? Because I was using lesser vampirism wraps and was healing for 2 hp each hit as opposed to the 1hp I should have been healing each hit. There must be some sort of amplification applied, right?

nope, not certain, maybe they changed it, but you should test it again in isolation

A phoenix type build, which focuses on high survivability via high healing amp, will work OK on a warforged. You'll certainly have better healing than most other WF characters, but you need to be aware that you are trading off one of the major reasons for rolling a build like that. And you get very little in return for that significant cost. (I should emphasize that I think you know what you're getting into, and are wanting to do it despite that, I just feel the need to make that point.)

So given that you absolutely have to be WF, I would still recommend thinking about a different class split, especially if you intend to fight with wraps. The first tier of Shintao monk is quite weak, so there is very little reason to take 7 monk levels over a 3-4 split. I have quite enjoyed a 15/4/1 split for unarmed. The build I used is posted here if you are interested (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...ix-flies-again!). You could probably adapt it for WF, and might find some useful information there.

I punched the training dummy in game a bunch with a few different toons, but couldn't get the healing amp to 200%, so I only healed 1 hp each hit (on the drow paladin). I then swapped to a WF druid, and boosted the healing amp to about 115%, but still only received 1 hp each hit (healing amp would need to be about 200% to see 2's) I then tried turning into a wolf and hitting the dummy, and still only received 1's (still, as expected for <200% healing amp).

what I did notice however is that the 1hp healed by the warforged always had the tiny repair symbol, leading me to conclude that unfortunately vampirism cannot be amplified on warforged as of right now (though I may be wrong). I think the 2's saw poling up while fighting were from my light strikes which DO run off healing amp.

I was bummed, but then I heard that there is a possibility of the repair skill being used to determine repair amp in future updates. If that is true I might wait to do a WF solar phoenix until then, though it might need a new name.

@whomhead: thank you very much for your suggestions. I was taking 7 monk for the extra 10% healing amp, and was throwing the shintao prestige in there because I qualified for it. I would probably drop stunning fist for toughness, and swap the toughness for something else. I think I need to return to the drawing board for this build, but I will look at your build when I do that.

I think I'll play my Monk for now, and if the update with repair amplification isn't released by the time I'm ready to TR I'll either work on a fighter life, or run an 18 paladin/2 rogue.

Thank you everyone, I'll probably necro this thread if/when the update with repair amp is released.
