Default Looking for a melee FVS build

I have used a +3 tome of supreme ability and am looking for a first TR build for a FVS using great sword. I have Warforged open but not 1/2 Orc. I will open 1/2 Orc if really needed but rather not. TR is from fighter.

No I do not and it is unlikely I will. I have some nice scimitars in addition to greatswords if you recommend going elf. I could buy 1/2 elf if needed also.

Well... I imagine the whole login PITA is part of the lack of responses..... I'd probably have normally commented on a thread like this previously without that. (Ugh... posting hit duplicate headers... then I had to log in AGAIN... fortunately my back arrow remembered my post..... jumpin geebus on a pogo stick)

Another part is it is just too open ended. Many many flavors of melee divines.

The major issues is what sort of weapons do you want to use? Two handers like a Greatsword, dual wielding, or handwraps.

Personally, I really like clonks, as I love the solid CC aspect that stunning fist allows in addition to possibly greater CC when in GMOF. But clonks aren't everyone's cup of tea.

Are you an "active combatant"? IE Do you move a lot when you play or do you stand still. If you tend to move all the time, then the THF feats largely won't work due to how glancing blows work. You might still go with a THF style, but definitely avoid those feats.

Do you want to splash? 2 monk is obviously great if you want to be a handwrap fighting type, but 2 fighter is a solid choice. It used to be that dual wielders tended to splash monk rather than fighter, but with the current rules I can see heavy armor and PRR being similar in value to evasion.... so that ends up more of a personal choice.

FvSs have a solid SLA (either laser, or more likely CLW), and the 10DR ain't shabby, although isn't what it used to be, so staying pure is a reasonable option, but can make feats hard. Helf Fighter dilly is possibly the best race for pure, since otherwise you probably can't spare more than a single feat for Profs. A TWFer can more easily get away with racial weapons, but due to the TWF feats you pretty much need to splash anyway.

Key feats for all melee divines: Maximize, Empower Heal, quicken... and the obligatory Toughness.

    THF types:
key - Power Attack, Improved Crit
nice - THF chain, Cleave, Great Cleave, Overwhelming Crit
best races: Helf with fighter dilly is nice if pure, if not Horc, Helf Pal dilly or Human

    TWF types:
    key - TWF/iTWF/gTWF, Improved Crit
nice - Power Attack or Precision, cleave-great cleave-overwhelming crit, kopesh
best races: pure... don't bother. Helf rogue dilly is probably top DPS or Pal for saves, human may be nice for feat. possibly even halfing for the odd combo between Helf rogue damage and Helf pal saves.

    clonks
    key - TWF/iTWF/GTWF, Stunning fist
nice - Precision or Power Attack plus Improved Sunder (for fort save reduction), IC is pretty meh on a clonk, but is an option.
    best races: same as TWF.

Random other good feats for any melee divine: Empower (for mass cures and dots), Epic Toughness, probably more I'm not thinking of...

Lastly, don't take all of this too seriously. If you want to play Dwarf with a big Axe, don't play a Horc because it is numerically better.... fun is the goal, and while being better can be fun, it isn't the whole picture. Figure out a toon you want to play in broad strokes without worrying about what the ideal build is. Then build that toon as ideal as possible. Play a toon you love, not the flavor of the month.

I may go with FVS and Warforged, I have a build from long ago from Sir Goth(?) something like that nayway as I don't have the build here that was viable. Are Warforged now not viable? I have a ton of greatswords and some decent scimitars and that's all.

Viable? Sure, no problem. Ideal.... definitely not. Personally, I think the WF healing penalty makes WF the worst possible race for all classes other than those with Reconstruct.

That doesn't mean that a WF FvS can't go running around kicking tail in EEs though. Since they at least can cast the (penalized) heal on themselves, it makes a much better option than Barb/Fighter/etc for a WF, since they not only have that same healing penalty but have that penalty impact someone else (their healer).

Sirgog built the early WF FVS but it sounds like the build isn't viable anymore....

Is an elf using scimitars viable?

I love Warforged, and a pure Favored Soul Warforged using Great Axes should be fine. You'll want to take healer's friend 3 to make your healing some what effective, but that's all up to you.

Do you intend to play epic levels, or TR once you hit 20?

If you like Multiclassing I would recommend the following:
2 Monk (2 feats and evasion)
2 Paladin (add Cha to saves, martial proficiency)
2 Rogue (evasion, trap skills with enough int, and Lock picking)

    Races:
Warforged are fun, and the healing penalty isn't too bad in my opinion (-50% healing for the ability to be repaired is sweet. take healer's friend 3 and it's only -20% healing for 100% repair)

    Dwarf: Dat. Axe.

    Human: free feat is schweet

Helf: they look lame in my opinion, but they have some nice dilettantes.

Horc: +2 str, bonus to 2HF, ect.

20 FVS is solid (with Warforged)

one of my favorites though is the Golden Roach Build

    Dwarf 16 FVS/2 Paladin/2 Monk

comes in 2 varieties, TWF and THF

I like dual wielding Dwarf Axes, and evasion +cha to saves makes for some nice survivability. Add healing spells and you're even better. If you can boost Int 2 rogue instead of Monk can add trap skills.

I used a Dual D-Axe approach for mine, with Power attack, TWF, ITWF, GTWF, Imp. Crit: Slash, Toughness, Quicken, Empower Healing, and Maximize. I'd swap Empower Healing and Maximize for Cleave and Great cleave if you want to play epic levels for Overwhelming crit and Epic toughness.

15 Str, 15 Dex, 18 Con, 8 Int, 8 Wis, 12 Cha, all levels in str.

    Hope it helps,
    -PaxsMickey
