Default Diary of a PD Solo Project

Currently level 7 working on level 5 elite quests.

Diary of a PD Solo Project- New User name Goth79 with forum update formerly, chappyglass.

Highest level achieved yet!, 5/1/1 fvs/arti/monk

Updating this first post with info and videos of my character deaths.

I'm looking to embark on a solo permadeath project with some challenging rules to keep the game exciting and interesting for myself. I love DDO but the TR grind has caused me to lose interest in the game. The excitement of permadeath play is really what i need to breath some life back into it. Most of the rules I'll follow are similar to most pd guilds but I'm going to use a more elaborate heirloom system.

    The Rules:

Only use gear that I've found, no AH, brokers, or vendors.

All quests done on Hard or Elite only with no xp penalty.

Can farm for items, but only on Hard or Elite with no xp penalty.

No hirelings except for pulling levers where required.

    No Quest Re-entry.

The hardest decision for me was weather or not to include the use of regular vendors or not. With no access to unlimited pots and scrolls my build choices will change drastically and it will be a far more challenging style of play. I'll be building for total self sufficiency. I'm going to attempt it for now without the use of vendors and see how it goes.

I think the gameplay with be extremely challenging for me, and the risks exciting.

The Fallen Hero's/ The Quests they died in:

    1. 1/1 Artificer/Cleric - Sacrifices - Died while incapacitated after taking falling damage and getting blasted by the Arcane Skeleton.
    2. 1/1 Artificer/Cleric - Havadasher - Overwhelmed by scorpions, went incap and bled to death. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQvdF...ature=youtu.be
    3. 1/1/1 Artificer/Fvs/Monk - The Butcher's Path - Warlock Cyressy cast hold and fireballed me to death. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhxpYy9oNEY
    4. 4/1/1 Fvs/Artificer/Monk - Repossession - Triple hit my electrical trap damage that I failed to disable.

    5. 5/1/1 Fvs/Arti/Monk - Dirty Laundry - Soundburst stunned and electrocuted to death.
    6. 5/1/1 Fvs/Arit/Monk - A Small Problem - Burned to death by fire Elementals.

the use of regular vendors would make your adventures a lot easier

fundamental in PD solo is healing

dont you think in pugging when attempting raids ?

I'm really hoping i can do this without using the vendors. I really like the idea of being a self contained unit with limited resources. I'm hoping being primarily a favored soul will cover most of my healing needs.

I finished up STK tonight with no major problems. Only real problems were not being able to disable some of the traps so I ended up running though some of the fire traps in the final part.

Finished up Tangleroot as well and now have access to house P buffs, which is huge for me.

I spent some time working on the cannith challenges and managed to get myself the wind bracers with perma blur! Also picked up the frozen tunic for some freezing cc action with my repeater. Seems to proc fairly frequently.

Been working on cannith crafting as well and now have 15/15/13 in the crafting schools. Was able to make some stacks of holy bolts for when things get rough and a stench repeater for even more cc.

I'm really hoping I'll be able to take this guy to level 10!

Had to retreat from the first quest in Delera's last night. Was the first time I've had to do so. I was outmatched. My little +2 shock repeater just wasn't doing enough damage to the skele's with their piercing DR. And casting Nimbus of Light was just burning through too much sp. I'm hoping if i can keep working on my cannith crafting and make myself a holy undead bane repeater i could do it, or even some good wraps.

I've only managed to find a +3 disabling item so far, so it's doubtful i would be able to disable the traps in Delera's anyways. Also lacking a fort item, because i seem to have lost the one i had from my previous life

Going to work on some of the other level 5 quests on elite and come back to Delera's. Hopefully I'll find something that could help me.

Finished up the Depths Series on Elite tonight with no major problems. Was blinded at one point with no way to cure it yet. But was able to kill the nearby mobs and wait for it to pass.

I decided I was going to attempt the Carnival series in House P starting with A Small Problem. After almost an hour of pew pewing with my xbow and throwing my little Nimbus of Light around I was nearing the end of the quest. Just needed to escort Brawnpits back to the entrance, and fight through the last of the devils. All was going well until during one of the battles two fire elementals joined the battle against me. Then I realized my fatal mistake. I had bypassed the ele's earlier to save time in the already long quest. Somehow they had dropped down from up high on the cliffs and were now blasting me with fire at a most unfortunate time. They blasted me until i went incap and then they turned on Brawnpits. Having the diehard feat I was hoping to regain consciousness while they were busy with Brawnpits but he went down quickly and they returned to finish me off. In the end it was my lack of patience that killed me. If I had finished them off earlier I'm sure I would have finished the quest and lived.

Going to start a new character and try again tomorrow. Maybe permadeath soloing with these constraints is a futile effort....but it sure is fun...and definitely challenging.

After a long session this afternoon I managed to complete most level 2 quests on elite and get my hero to level 5. After leveling I was able to finish up waterworks on elite and found some good trapping gear. Found a +5 search item and +7 disabling item.

Things are going pretty smoothly so far. Finished up the Catacombs series tonight on elite. The final boss managed to put a nice dent in me, but in the end I prevailed. Finished up some of the other level 3 elites tonight as well, from Tangleroot and STK so I could take level 6 tonight. Hp jumped from 110 to 142 with level 6, and picked up Maximize for big emergency heals.

Going to try and finish up all of Tangleroot on Elite tomorrow for a nice possible end reward and House P favor for great buffs.

I've decided to add a new rule for myself, that I've already been following fairly closely but am now going to be more strict about.

I will not progress in level until I've completed all quests with bravery bonus, preferably Elite, to the best of my ability. I realize some quests my just not be possible on elite or even hard bravery bonus solo, especially given my limited gear and resources but I'll do the best I can before I move on in level. I kind of see finishing them all as a right of passage before progressing in level.

So I'm currently level 6 working on finishing level 4 quest on Elite. I should be able to finish all the level 4's on elite. Proof is in the Poison is always interesting .

I still have some major gear holes. I could really use a moderate fort. item still. I've been working on my cannith crafting and have them all to low 20's. It's likely i'll be able to craft my own moderate fort. item before I find one for myself. Could really use an upgrade for my repeating xbow as well. Still weilding my +2 shock repeater.

    Level 6 - 4 Fvs/1Monk/1Arti

    Quests Completed last Session:

    Bookbinder Rescue Elite
    Repossession Elite
    Come Out and Slay Elite
    STK Series Elite
    Rest for the Restless Elite
    Freshen the Air Elite
    The Stormreaver Fresco Elite
Proof is in the Poison Elite

    Notable Gear Finds:

    Trapblast Goggles from STK
    Belt of Halt Undead 5/rest
    Helm of Power VI

Finished the last of the level 4 quests tonight on elite. The most dangerous fight of all of them is definitely the final battle in the second part of STK. Being locked in the room with all those wolves and witchdoctors is brutal. Almost immediately I was held by one of the witchdoctors which got my heart going but most of the wolves weren't on me yet so I was able to escape down one of the back passages. I was able to line of sight most of the witchdoctors after that while i took care of the wolves. My biggest fear was being rendered helpless from ray of enfeeblement. But I managed to avoid most of their rays and went on to finish the rest of the STK chain.

I saved Proof is in the Poison for last. While I don't think it's as dangerous as the final battle of part 2 from STK, it's definitely more challenging in terms of resource management to endure until you finally get the shrine. I took a bit of a chance near the beginning and did and invis run for the first key, bypassing many of the mobs which saved a lot of sp. I did get a small train of mobs following me, maybe 6-8 but it was still manageable and worth it. At the end I was able to pull the final boss on his own and pew pewed him down without too much trouble. Here's a short video of the fight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL-NI...ature=youtu.be

I'm ready to move on to level 5 Elite quests now, so I took level 7. I've died twice before after reaching level 7, so I'm feeling a little hesitant and concerned for my current hero. My casting powers are pretty limited still and my xbow is taking longer to put down the mobs as I go up in level. I'm hoping I can push through the next few levels and make the transition from using the xbow primarily, to a more casting oriented playstyle.

I'm absolutely loving the cannith crafting. It's perfect for this style of play. I never touched it with my tr toon, but for this project it makes finding all the chests even more worthwhile. I just breakdown almost everything I find. I've managed to get the crafting schools up to 24 arcane/27 divine/23 elemental. I've been using the petrifying and stun runestones for some emergency cc, and made myself an underwater action item this afternoon. I'm hoping to be able to make a holy repeater soon when I get enough mats.

Over the last several days I've completed nearly every level 5 quest on Elite. Many of the quests I had very little knowledge of and was hit by a couple traps. I was still able to complete them all and was only left with the carnival series to go. I knew it would be rough....but omg. I did The Snitch first. First I almost died from electric damage during the box construct fight, but managed to pull through. The final battle took quite a while because of his regen and I was close, at a couple points, to dying. After some time I was able to take him down, but it was tough.

    Then I tried Partycrashers....

Just getting though the initial illusion battles nearly cost me my life. I was knocked down and swarmed by lions. After getting into the main building the security guard battles used a lot of my resources. Then I was trapped in between some spikes, and couldn't find a trap box. I jumped past them near the edge and was knocked down to 2 hp! That was the point when I should have recalled out lol. Not knowing the quest at all was also a major problem.

Foolishly I pressed on. I quickly realized I didn't have the resources to go do the optionals and make my way though the security fights. Maybe there is a way to bypass them, but I didn't know how. My only choices left were to recall out or start the final battle. I decided to fight....

The fight actually lasted for quite some time. I managed to kill a number of the casters, but was taking con damage from poison, weakening me slowly. I was knocked incap at one point and recovered but was soon stunned, overwhelmed and killed.

This is my seventh death in this project and my third time dying at level 7. I'm really starting to feel like this is a futile effort. Fun no doubt...by I'll probably never get to Vale lol.

I'm left feeling like I want to continue this project but am not sure what to do yet. Obviously it wouldn't be a true permadeath project any more if I did, but I want to continue with this character none the less. I'm looking into other forms of death penalties and have been reading suggestions from the Thaco and Storm static groups. So far I'm leaning towards destroying items in my inventory but we'll see.
