That's my missing info then, I was unaware of the login information being shared.

I forgot how many times I've heard or read about never using the same password twice, maybe Turbine forgot? (Hint, Hint Turbine)

Not only this, but the email received about the LOTRO hack specifically asked people to make sure their forum password was not the same as their in game password. Now that "same password" situation is being forced on us.
Advocating repeated nerfs in the name of "balancing the game" then complaining about how DDO is moving away from D&D, is a direct contradiction in logic - D&D 3.5 (what DDO is based on) is not a balanced game. We can either have a balanced clone MMO with homogenized classes, or we can have a D&D game. We cant have both.

And on a side note, thank you Turbine for not totally killing the API. I sincerely hope that if you do still plan to nix it that there's something else in the works to replace (not going to hold my breath, though).

You can simply remove your information by cancelling your VIP in the My Account section at the top of the forums display... You don't need to do anything else...

Does anyone really expect Turbines management to comment on such things.. The only thing we get from that crew is blather about junk they're going to sell us someday, and "Quality of life patches" that come 2 times a year.....

    Cancelling mine right now...

    As for this forums thing...

Yet more proof of the absurd nature of the DDO management team.... They're basically locking out posting and discussion or the retention of.... During a time when PAYING customers arre testing and giving feedback of a sweeping change to the entire game... Too funny....

I would have agreed that this is just DOOOoooOOOOM if Turbine hadn't already had a MASSIVE security breach in LotRO because of this same exact issue of linking of forums information with account information.

But since they did, I can't understand why Turbine is putting this ASTONISHINGLY bad policy change into place after what happened to their other game.

I'll see you all on the forums after the changeover!
it doesn't matter if you post or not after the "upgrade", your information is in the database.

Turbine is doing what Bugs Bunny tells them. Direct your hate properly.

As far as i can tell, the Turbine people are passionate about their game but are powerless to defy their corporate overlord.

You're not even identifying your enemy properly, hence, you have no chance in defeating it.

Yep. Thankfully, I was sufficiently paranoid in July of 2011. I don't use my primary account to post on the forums at all (doing so would be a violation of the COC).

LOL, and yet agian you fail to undersand that there will be a direct pipeline to ALL account information through the forums. It doesn't matter what account you post on the forums from. Your GAME account information will be directly linked to the forums.

Post or don't post, log into the forums or don't, this account, or that account... None of that will matter.....

still doesn't matter. your game login credentials are now your forum login credentials. That means if you still have your credit card linked to your game login, it will be exposed in the case of a forum hack, such as the one that already happened to Turbine once. You can't opt out of having forum access.

The phone lines must be getting hammered. I'm getting 13 seconds of silence and then a fast busy signal.

Right. That's why I use my mule account for all forums activity. Create one account to get the two characters (per server) to act as bank toons and Forums access. The account that has your credit card on file never touches the forums.

Unfortunately, that only works if you're inappropriately paranoid starting from the beginning of the game.

I just went into the system to have my CC information removed from the database, only to realize that the information they have is out of date as about 6 months ago when I lost my card. So, I guess the joke's on Turbine this time around.

Incidentally, I still went through with the removal request just so I could tell them specifically why this is happening.

just got off the phone with turbine. removed cc info. operator said "keep that information secure" after i did it. i think the operator got the message. sad management hasn't yet. i'm telling my ingame friends to do the same.

when i worked in call centers, we always wanted to know why there was an uptick in calls. especially heavy volume got our attention fast. usually management didn't care, but we'd communicate with each other and figure it out quick. "hey, they're all calling about x!" then usually, "here's the fix." rarely, if ever, would management even notice, and then, usually because of dropped calls (high volume, ppl giving up on hold).

for the record, i waited on hold (no music, no sounds, no indication of anything until the operator gets to you, real professional there turbine) for about 15 minutes.

p.s. the online tool is directing people to call to remove cc info. it's in the fine print at the end of the form.

you're still not getting what I'm saying. BOTH of your accounts have forum accounts because having a game account will now mean you automatically have a forum account, with the same password. Therefore, your main account is also a forum account.

    *Sigh...

It doesn't matter that you're posting from your mule account... You CC info is still linked to the forums through your other account. It has nothing to do with you actually logging into the forums or not. The only thing not logging into the forums through your primary account would protect you from is say a keylogger on YOUR end...

This has to do with Turbine opening up another pipeline into their accoutn information database from the forums.... Which has failed before IE: Lotro.... V-Bulletin is famously unsecure.... It's fine for an internet forums with no personal information... But not with anything important.
