Sadly the Sarlona forums have turned the new location for trade threads. There really hasn't been much drama to speak of in, ... How long you been gone?

Choosing to not fill those roles is a purposeful choice to gimp themselves.
I'm not understanding why there is a separate competition between melees and casters? The competition should be based on contribution, with the limiting factor being party spots. So a cleric is in competition for a party spot, vs everyone else who can join the party under the lfm limitations.

    Default Lfm

This LFM is fair common in Sarlona, I even join BYOH more often than those who look for a healer. Most of the time, it acts as a filter for those attention seeker chars wanting a nanny bot plastered on their back.

We have done the "spawn of whisperdoom" quest and despite the 3 members of the group reminded everyone to bring resist acid, no one brings any kind of item that will protect them from acid including the 3 person who reminded the rest of the company. The FVS healer have a bad connection and kept being disconnected. The Rog won't disable traps, the tank don't even drink any hp pots and does not even try to grab aggro.

    ---------------

To cut the long story short, I song buff, heal, do traps and tank (as an 35AC bard), burn 10 major pots, used half stack of Resurrection scrolls but still get blamed when we are wiped and the boss is at 1% hp for not DOING MY ROLE. After a few minutes the FVS reconnected then died at the acid fog. Quest failed after 59 minutes.

I quit pretending to go to bed.

    ---------------

30 minutes after, a Cleric posted an LFM with BYOH same quest. The group have a cleric ("poster"), 1 FVS and 1 pure bard. Joined it and completed the quest in less than 20 minutes on elite. I do traps and War-chant song buff, FVS kite and blade barrier and the 2nd bard keeps on doing spell singer buffs. No death, no nanny sitting.. The cleric who posted BYOH covered all healings that are needed.

    ---------------

Also joined an EE TOR complete dragons, 3 deaths on BYOH.. they died on the electricity traps, the Cleric only used raise dead and no single healing was thrown..

Why roll a cleric if not wanting to heal? This dude should have rolled a sorc. This guy is saying hes not willing to do half of what his class is capable of, while likely not bringing the DPS of a class that cant heal as well as he can. If someone is on a divine that cant (not built to) heal or wont (by choice) heal, they better be contributing the same DPS as a regular DPS build id take in their place, because thats the slot they are taking up.
A quick answer, the new PUG player base including the TRs are now a very good example of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeroy_Jenkins

TR now only means that you have once leveled to 20 and rerolled, thanks to the HP stones.. there are a lot of them who even don't care to bring any kind of resist or hp pots to keep themselves alive. In an absence of a nanny, there easily turn into a floating stone.

Yeap, the environment is now a huge expectation of hand outs, usually in the form of hitting up someone elses LFM and watching them plow the quest well ahead of them so that they get free XP with no learning of the quest. Its a set up where someone can have "run" (more like involuntarily piked) the same quest multiple times and learned nothing about it. Resist pots? Those are for the person up front, doing the work.

Getting to 20, even with no stones, can still be a feat accomplished with minimal learning involved unfortunate as it may seem.
Advocating repeated nerfs in the name of "balancing the game" then complaining about how DDO is moving away from D&D, is a direct contradiction in logic - D&D 3.5 (what DDO is based on) is not a balanced game. We can either have a balanced clone MMO with homogenized classes, or we can have a D&D game. We cant have both.

Chai... you aren't nearly pessimistic enough The really scary part is the realization that many of the players doing the work are happy to have the pikers because someone has to be lowman on the kill count totem pole and by having others pretend to contribute the ones doing the work have their uberness validated.

I think part of the problem is that the # of LFMs has declined so grouping options are more limited. The less experienced players joining a quest with a highly experienced player just can't keep up. It might appear they are piking and/or not contributing when in reality they are just trying to figure things out and are always a few steps behind (or more). They would like to do more but don't have the quest memorized and/or optimized.

I learned the game by running quests with one or more face-to-face friend (usually just one) and we learned the quests real well that way. And very slowly I might add - the first time we run coalescence chamber probably took us 4 hours. Now it takes less than 30 minutes. When I joined a party with experienced people as a new player I learned nothing and usually ended up frustrated at the end of the quest.

The problem is the experience gap and not much can be done about that. Either the vets accept taking twice as long to finish quests or the new players just go along for the ride and don't learn much because of the fast pace. It's been very rare that I've run across a vet willing to slow down the pace for new players.

The game reward system strongly encourages running content very fast in almost every aspect of the game.

For example, splitting to accomplish different objectives faster is a clear situation where you can see all the advantages of BYOH and you can notice as well that BYOH has nothing to do with cleric/fvs unwilling to heal for some obscure reason: the cleric/fvs (if there's one in party) is probably completing an objective on his own, so he can't keep your lazy person alive on the other side of the dungeon
And if that was the reasoning behind a BYOH run I am fine with it; last night I joined an at level Litany farming run that said BYOH on my main, which is a WF FVS. While I could easily (and HAVE easily, I was getting less than 1k/ min due to repetition, just wanted company) solo it, and ignored the other 2 in the party and make them step out of battle and heal themselves up, I hit CSWM every once in a while while fighting groups of mobs + Kai-teng (Best. fight banter. EVAR) so that no one had to take a second out to heal up and we could keep the farming runs down.

I think that's the disconnect here, BYOH does not mean "You're on your own, don't look at the class icon I'm not helping you in any way" to most people, it's the few that put that up that DO take that mentality that ruin the designation. BYOH means if I am helping someone else or we are all split up or someone dies and I'm busy raising them you have the wherewithal to take care of yourself; it's more a respect thing in that it means you don't expect me to spend my entire time watching red bars and realize I want to have fun too. To me BYOH means some of the pressure is off as the group can for the most part take care of themselves and I don't have to listen/ read "HJEAL MEH U SUUXXXX" over and over again after every hit/ neg level/ beholder sighting. I join and heal when needed. I just know in a BYOH it's more appreciated than in a normal "Healer needed" run.

My 2pp, take it for what it's worth

I don't mind wiping my old forum name and rep, not too much of a problem as I have enough other stuff to worry about. I did have about 10 forum pages saved in favorites and those no longer work. I guess I will have to use the new forum's search function to re-find those pages. Talk about a serious case of, "first world problems."
