Here's what I get from these changes:

Of course this shows the level and dedication of progamming taking place at Turbine when they cannot get MyDDO to display any character with EDs but a Fansite can.

As a side note I also see without having access to another character's stats you will see a lot of EE LFMs saying "Post gear to join" or people getting kicked as soon as they join because thier stats don't meet what the party leader sees as acceptable for the quest/raid.

Sorry but i'd rather use the current forum name than the account name.

Am i "new" enough to select a new one when the change will impact the site?

Thank you very much for the clarification.

*shrug* Hackers can have my life. I'm done with it.

On a serious note, I'm sure Turbine has learned from what they did with Lotro (with the caveat that this is Turbine), for once DDO is not the test dummy in this project.

Its going to happen no matter how much forum angst there is. There will be much gnashing of teeth, threats etc. And it will still happen.

    And life will go on.

Then delete you account now. Its going to happen whether you want it to or not.

Complaining is just wasting breath. This is Turbine.

I assume there's no way to remove credit card info from our accounts, since that would make it harder to impulse-purchase TP?

Why are we introducing security holes that don't currently exist?

Already tried cancelling the account, and that didn't seem to remove my credit card info.

Just so we're clear: I am going to have to choose between having my credit card attached to my account and having a forum account? Because that's what this really means.

Going to be a hard call.

As sad as it is, the whole decision to merge game and forum log in information just doesn't surprise me. Just one more really bad decision in a line of really bad decisions that have been made lately. Fortunately for me, I dropped to premium a while back and removed my credit card information from my account.

I seem to remember it being not possible to remove your CC# (not sure why, but it is what it is) so people would get a pre-paid Visa and have that associated with the account.

We love fansites! The decision to end the current API support was a very difficult one. You know I of all people am very much committed to doing everything possible for our fansites! I'm fully planning to make sure that fansites gets lots of support from us throughout this process and afterwards. It's true that API support is not going to be a part of that for the forseeable future, but hopefully there are other things that can be done to bring some benefits previously-unavailable to our player blogs, podcasts, web sites, etc.

I applaud most of the announced changes. There is some collateral damage, but that's to be expected and acceptable IMO.

The one item that can and should be changed is the shared login/password between game and forums. I will no longer participate in the forums or submit bug reports if these are not broken apart.
Someone got it wrong. Everyone expected the Spanish Inquisition because they were required to give 30 days notice, by law.
I can be found on Orien. My more active toons are Cilon, Solstone in Your Pack, and sometimes Acroyer.

Now if report is abused, there are possible consequences for that too, and its far more noticed by a mod than if neg rep is abused.

I prefer a forum system with a report button only. That way people cant add or subtract rep simply due to agree/disagree. The post either violates forum guidelines or it doesnt. No one deserves "consequences" due to differing opinion.

I approve of this measure, and would approve more if they just made it a report only system.

The neg rep for this post simply proves my point, as this post is not disruptive/trolling/or any of the other things that warrant neg rep. It was provided due to disagreeing and nothing more. Im glad we will soon be rid of it for good.
That is not relevant to my post which you quoted. Are you in favor of keeping pos rep? It should be done away with, because pos rep without neg is meaningless. It was never a very useful system from the start, especially with the added option to disable rep display. The whole thing is a waste of time.

This seems to me like you're saying "We don't want to bother fixing or supporting this tool, even though it is very useful to a lot of players. So we're just going to kill it and not bother replacing any of its functionality. Now run along and buy something from the store."

This doesn't have to be removed. It used to work in the past. If you really wanted to you could make it work again.

Extremely bad move turbine, I really hope you people rethink this epic mistake.... Cuz it truly sucks on all levels

    Jerry...

I honestly hate saying this, but there really won't be. Turbine will tie your hands so you will be powerless to do much.

If the DDO execs finally make a command decission to untie the PR team hands to actually communicate with the player base again, such as the WDA, events, more information concerning what is happening, and even more importantly actually taking feedback of what is broke in game AND FIXING IT.... A lot of the hate that is raging right now may actually die down.

But that means that those execs have to actually give the command to tell DDO employees to talk more with your "Fans".

Turbine is powered by our wallets. It is time to stop choking the throttle so much.

Most of the fan sites don't get any "official support", we get indirect support. In general a company never provides direct help / support to fan sites in order to prevent being branded as giving "Special Treatment" if they don't help all of them the same way.

I have a couple mobile apps in the works that were leveraging the API for pieces of data it needed in that will no be mothballed which stinks, but I'm hopeful that something new will come out eventually to expose the information in another way that we'll be able to leverage.

I do feel VERY badly for those sites that took the API data and greatly improved on the functionality and information to provide great utilities for the player base. I wish there was a way they would be able to keep the API running "as is, no warranty" until they can determine a new method to support fan sites in a general manner.

I suppose one was to avoid using your real login info on the forums is to create a new dummy f2p account with no personal info and only use the forums through it. Just log out of the forums with your real account and never log back in. But of course you would lose all your post history, post count, and titles.
