Default Petition: Loot Passing in Chests

    Short and Sweet:

Make a clarification tab pop up, the same as binding equipment now, when passing loot to another player in a chest.

    Reasoning:
It's very easy to misclick and pass the item to the wrong person. Now you may say who cares, majority of people are considerate enough to pass to the proper person anyways. The issue comes up when some of the people leave the quest before the passing occurs and the loot is accidentally passed to the wrong person.

An even better way to do it would be to make it pop up for the person who would be receiving the item. If they do not answer within 10 seconds then chances are they've already left and the item remains in the original person's name.

    Save the disappointment!

Not signed because I think it's a very partial fix on what should actually be done: If you open a chest and then leave the dungeon anything assigned to you becomes randomly reassigned. This way no loot gets abandoned in chests when someone else might want it.

Or simply a confirmation screen "Do you want to pass <item> to <character>?" [Yes][No]
Main: Amossa d'Cannith, Sarlona, casually trying Completionist [<o>]

    Almost-never-played-alts: Arquera - Chapolin - Fabber - Herweg - Mecanico - Tenma

I want DDO to be a better game. Those are my personal suggestions on: Ammunition, Archmage, Combat Stances, Deities, Dispel Magic, Epic Destiny Map, Fast Healing, Favor, Favored Enemy, Half-elf Enhancements, Monk Stances, Past Life, Potency, Potions, Ranger Spells, Summons, Tiered Loot.

Confirmation screen would do the job.

Not entirely the same thing as the op but I find it annoying to see a shard, seal or named item drop that you're looking for and the person who was lucky enough doesn't care about these and just leaves it at the chest and then drops group.

    Makes me just go Mheh...

One, two! One, two! and through and through. The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

    ^This.

    I would add..
DC'd members do not have their loot redistributed until they leave party (leader still has the option of dropping DC'd player)
    and remeber KISS..
~No need to complicate the system with allow reasign loot check boxes or dropdowns or confirmations or any other BS.. just random auto distribute when player leaves group.~

    This way...

People who want their stuff can loot what they want and leave the rest.
Alternative to /roll dxx and wait for everyone to roll while other rolls and looting is going on..then scroll through the text trying to figure out who won.
Just exit quest and drop grp... or hang out and figure out who gets your stuff..

Any goodies left in the chest will redistribute automatically until there is no one left.

miss-passed loot can still be passed to the right person by virtue of hanging out until it drops to someone still in the quest.

Loot Hoars can hang out til the very end and pick through what is left in chest.(one persons junk is another persons treasure)

The jist of this change is to allow leftover loot to be available to the rest of the party after someone leaves and to avoid the dreaded mispass to someone who has already left group.
It is frustrating when lag or some other screwed up mechanic causes a item being passed to one person ends up going to someone who has already left.
GM's are rarely (if ever)helpful here and we dont really need to waste their time or ours when a simple change in the loot system would go a long way.

/Signed for the confirmation screen with the character's name you are passing to.

I've seen it happen in the past and it still happens that an item gets accidentallly assigned to the wrong person and the person it's assigned to has already left the dungeon and the party.

If you mis read it once you'll read something wrong the second time around just as hard. What one could do is have the player who you assign things to have to confirm that indeed he indeed wishes to receive the item, if not it get's distributed back to the assigning player (kinda like the mail system).

But this would make it more complex so I would vote for the "character no longer in group then random assigning to remaining party members" option as well.

You could even do an in group but not in instance random assignment of left over treasure to a random party member still is in the same instance. This one might be harder to implement tho.

I find this to be a player issue, not a systems issue. I feel the mechanism in place is fine.
Someone got it wrong. Everyone expected the Spanish Inquisition because they were required to give 30 days notice, by law.

I would agree if it were not for the fact that menus can jump around a bit. Have you ever tried passing loot to someone still in a Quest when others are dropping group? The names jump all over the place as the list of applicable people you can pass to changes.

As long as the confirmation box option is something I can turn off, sure.

Sure, but I still think that's a social issue. I've been in and led raids where the leader's directions reduce that sort of thing. I've also been in and led raids where it was quite chaotic and stuff was left in chests.

It would be nicer if it was just plain impossible to assign loot to someone who cannot re-enter to claim it. If assigned to someone who leaves before taking, it should simply revert to who it originally dropped for. Then no need for messy confirmation dialogs.

This is only a partial fix since a big claim is also about accidentally assigning it to a different party member.

I tried it once. Led a VoN 6 and said before we faced the dragon: "No one leave the quest or drop groups until every shard and named item on chests are rolled, please. It sometimes make we assign the traded loot incorrectly."

Worked as a charm. As soon as the chests were opened, 4 people recalled and dropped group. One shard was lost on the trade (not a SoS shard, but was a desirable item at the time).

Based on my personal programming experience, I believe that a confirmation screen is easier to code than something to continuously check if someone is still on quest/party to reasign their loot.

You don't have to continiously check, just make a delegate function to execute on department.
I'm more in favor of the confirmation screen due to issues with disconnecting and losing loot.
