    Default Devil Girl's Beau (2Rgr/18M) - Melee Master and Arcane Archer w/ *Grandmaster Stance*

    The basic idea behind this build is to be a mix of ranged and melee in a manner similar to Helves Angel.

    My sorcerer is approaching level 20 and I have been considering reincarnating her into an arcane archer (AA) ever since I heard that the arcane prodigy past life feat allows you to bypass the need for a class and level with magical training.

    The initial appeal was that you could create a Kensei III AA, but as many people familiar with monkchers knew, you can get better dps by combining 10k stars with manyshot than you can get with manyshot alone. This lead some people to reconsider builds like Monkcheri Amour (see my signature), especially 1 Druid - 7 Monk - 12 Fighter, which gives a nice damage boost via ram's might. However, as one can see, the Druid variation of Monkcheri Amour does not really take advantage of the arcane prodigy feat, as the Druid class fulfills the magical training requirement, and you can simply take the mental toughness feat rather than the arcane prodigy feat.

    So the following question remains: What is the best way of taking advantage of the arcane prodigy feat for an arcane archer build?

    Well, here is one attempt to answer that question. I think it's somewhat of a failure but perhaps you can convince me otherwise. It is a monkcher with both 10k stars and manyshot, but with the benefits of 18 levels of monk rather than the more typical 12 or 6. This is only a first draft, and I had to make some compromises to pull it off. The most noticeable is that I have elected to take ITWF and GTWF rather than precise shot and improved precise shot. This makes sense to me because presumably one will need to do some considerable melee in order to really take full advantage of 18 levels of dark monk.

    Please critique these builds. I'm especially seeking any advice regarding epic destinies and the like. Let me know what you think.

    I'll leave the IPS debate to other people, but I was wondering if light monk might be a better option. Kukan Do can stun enemies at range, and lets you gain helpless damage. Also, since it's a will save, you're more likely to stun those pesky high fort save enemies. Just wondering.

    My view is the benefits from going monk 12->18 are too modest to make up for all the feats you lose (esp. IPS) compared to the typical monk 12 / rgr 6 / ??? 2 build. Although the suggestion to switch to Shintao has merit: Kukan Do + Quivering Palm might be worthwhile if you can get your DCs high enough; and Stunning Fist + Precision meet Shintao pre-reqs so you can squeeze it onto your 2nd build.

    I can see advantages to both monk paths. I did consider light monk. For some reason, when I tried previously to get Shintao III with full arcane archer I couldn't seem to squeeze it all in, but this time I somehow managed.

    I would say that light path with stun has more synergy than dark path does. I really like the idea of Shintao III on a ranged build. I think I would miss IPS though...love that on ranged builds.

    Default Cupid's Beau

    I'm still tinkering with the light monk version. I'm wondering whether it would be better to be in mountain (higher crits) or ocean (passive ki gen) stance. However, I think I am approaching one optimal solution. On this variation, I've dropped GTWF and IC: Bludgeoning for Precise Shot and Improved Precise Shot. This one would fight in primarily ranged mode like a traditional monkcher but with the ability to stun at a distance.

    Two considerations:

    (1) One of my original reasons for going 18M/2Ranger was to have both 10k stars and manyshot. However, I have created a Melee Master and Arcane Archer with the intention of mixing melee and ranged in a manner similar to Helves Angel. There is a tension here, because using dark monk attacks will compete with using 10k stars in terms of using ki. Well, the best answers I can think of are that 10k stars is a nice addition to have at an incredibly cheap cost, and having 10k stars increases the flexibility of the build considerably, as it can function much like a traditional monkcher when necessary.

    (2) I'm thinking that one may want to swap precision for stunning fist. These are both great feats to have, but I think that attack won't be an issue on this build since it is a wisdom build with zen archery and it won't be using power attack.

    The 12/6/2 splits get many shot and 10k stars too. I'm struggling to see the benefit here. According to the calculation on the wiki, you'll never get the kukan do DC to worthwhile levels, so it doesn't seem worth losing all the feats that you'd get otherwise.

    This is a really good point, but it applies to Cupid's Beau http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?p=4954700 rather than Devil Girl's Beau. My comments that you quoted apply to a dark monk rather than a light monk, and dark monks don't have Kukan Do.

    Devil Girl's Beau (DGB) is a dark monk intended to fight much like Helves Angel by alternating between melee and manyshot, but with option of operating like a traditional monkcher by alternating between 10k stars and manyshot. The main advantages it has I guess vs. Hong Kong Pewy (12/6/2) are greater flexibility, higher dark attack dc's, and quivering palm. Also, most Hong Kong Pewy builds drop the touch of death and prerequisite enhancements, while DGB keeps them and can use it more effectively.

    Keep in mind Kukan Do is a will save! Lots of high fortitude mobs have really sucky will saves, the trick is to use stun-fist on casters and Kukan do on melee's. And 10 base +18(level) +10(stunning) +5(exceptional)+6(dreadnought twist)=49.

    Might not work on casters in EE, but should still be pretty effective. And that's without any charisma, which is now easier to slot with augments.
