Now, I know that for some this won't be much of an Achievement at all - but I'm feeling pretty good about myself at the moment. If y'all will allow me a slight preamble...
With the Loot Bonus going on and all, I figured I'd take my chest-blessing Virtuoso Bard and hit up the GH Mind Flayer and Supply Master chests. Why not, right?
This Bard isn't a Battle Bard by any means - and I don't have the best gear in the world anymore. It's been years since I've powergamed DDO, and my approach to the game in the past year could be called Casual by the most generous terms. This is meant to be a Support type character, nothing more - and probably had no damn business at all being out there solo.
I hit the Mindflayer chest - and was almost to the Supply Master's hill - when I saw a few Dwarves marching away from what looked like a few dead Hill Giants. I haven't been out there much, so I figured the Dwarves killed them. I took em out, and then started to run up the path, when a huge SWOOOP-BOOOM! filled my ears. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the Hill Giants had not been killed by the Dwarves - and there was a chest hidden from view by their bodies.
The chest of a named Green Dragon. A CR 27 Green Dragon who was not looking at my lvl 22 Virtuoso in a nice and friendly way. He did not want to sing songs.
I've also never fought a Greenie before.
I about did something indecent in my drawers since, as I said, this Bard is not made for fighting what it cannot Fascinate or dance, and isn't equipped to the gills. I looked at my hotbar and saw I only had 19 Heal scrolls - and was about to pop down a D-Door and skedaddle. But then I figured what the hell.
And then proceeded to have the most intense, most heart-thumping, and most awful damn fun fight I've had in DDO in years. And I won.
I'm not sure what I am most proud of - and thus deciding to have the stones to put this thread in this forum... the fact that I won, the fact that I even decided to give it a shot, or the fact that against what I thought of as all odds I pulled it off.
But between those three - I thought it was an experience and personal achievement worth sharing. Sure, it's not a solo EE Raid or a speed-run... but I'm proud of it. Thanks for reading and sharing it with me.
