Contrary to what you might think, photosynthesis is only effective to a certain degree. You can still burn plants with intense light the same way you can obtain a sunburn from being out in the sun too long. The light damage from light spells is intended to be powerful radiant sun-type energy, above and beyond that which you might absorb from a 30 minute sun tan. Think of it as more like a powerful laser than jolly old sunshine.

So yes, plants SHOULD take light damage, just like everything else does.

Many a bushfire has started because someone has thrown a glass bottle out into a dry field.

The bottle focuses the sun's rays, causing an intense light that SETS PLANT MATTER ON FIRE. This fire then spreads, killing everything nearby.

'rasques and tardigrades couldn't be less alike. And no, please no tardigrades in the game. How would you kill them?
