"Freedom is the sovereign right of every American!"
you win the "best thread of the downtime" award, congratulations
In this case you only need to do a few of the rooms. In fact if we pop chests on the first few we usually skip the rest. Chalk it up to a learning experience about the quest and move on.
OP's suggestion is spot on. Whenever I enter a prison with inmates held in some sort of extradimensional stasis, access to which is predicated upon killing an undead giant warden and correctly manipulating big ol handles into a position based upon a scrap of paper found in a broken cell and then getting one power cell from the bottom of a giant cylindrical room in the center of the prison and inserting it next to a switch to the door, if I somehow then get locked into the room when my teammate suicides themselves on a huge electrified barrier to said prison cell, I would expect that I should be able to exit said prison cell from the inside should the need arise.
