    Default The Planktoneter: Bardcher

So the Planktoneter is yet another AA, I finally got my (first life) lvl 25 Bardcher capped and I like it so much I may TR my third life sorc into it, tho I might get a few more PL's first. If the amount of bardchers lvling on Ghallanda keeps raising like this, I'm sure we'll be able to do some Bardcher only raids on Ghallanda soon :-)

Either way, it's a 12 bard/6 ranger/2 rogue AA that is viable even for 32 point builds, it does not require past lifes, though passive past lifes always help of course.

    Pro's:
Bard songs for additional attack and damage
Can do any traps except for EE raids (I'll be able to do EE raids once I get a bit more geared tho)
Enthrallment/Capering for CC, can be combined with pin
    Haste + Displacement + FoM (+ Blur)
Rather good self-healing (over 300 with scrolls)
    Decent HP
    High UMD
Evasion + good reflex, fort save ok

    Con's:
Will save minor (30ish?) but you can for most will-save based spells make up with counter spells (scrolls, fom)
In comparision with the monkcher you lack 10k stars
A real bard will have more and better songs (if the party has a full bard, you will lose a bit of your utility)

For my 32 point, the base stats were

    Elf 12/6/2 Bard/Ranger/Rogue

    STR: 16 (+6)
    DEX: 16
    CON: 14
    INT: 10
    WIS: 8
    CHA: 12

    Feats:
    Toughness
    Point blank shot
    Weapon focus: Ranged
    Improved critical: Ranged
    Power attack
    Cleave
    Greater cleave
    Precision
    Overwhelming critical

Epic Destiny: Fury of the wild
    Slots: Pin (Shiradi Champion)
When I farm out more destinies, I intend to slot in:
    Otto's whistler (Shiradi Champion)
    Action boost: Damage (Dreadnought)

I'm too lazy to type out all the enhancements here, if you need help with em either contact me ingame or send me a pm

Feel free to post your feedback!

Do you plan to melee at all; or are you just taking PA/CL/GC to get OC? Because OC is a fairly modest DPS boost, AFAICT; certainly not worth the four-feat investment just for it, esp. if it means dropping IPS to get it. Plus any mostly-bard build w/out Inspire Heroics + Excellence makes me sad.

<- note sincere expression of utter sadness

If you're ranged-/support-focused, then what about bard 15 / rog 3 / rgr 2? Bow STR (rgr 1), Rapid Shot (rgr 2), Toughness, PBS, Manyshot, WF:Ranged, Prec Shot, IC:Ranged, IPS, Precision (or maybe Combat Archery once it's fixed), Inspire Excellence. [I think I added that up right.] IPS, +1d6 SA from rog 3, Inspire Heroics & Excellence, lvl 5 spells (Greater Heroism, Shadow Walk, Mind Fog or MCLW).

Thumbs up My experience so far

Atm, i cn say it lvls nice on low lvl and getting biggest killcount from the moment i had manyshot, at medium lvl i think with the rogue lvls and virtuosoI its a good party support as it has songs and burstdps and melee dps and hp and ofc rogueskills. Anyways must say im liking what im playing atm.

What's with the funky name of the build, though? Care to elaborate?

I dunno but it has inspired me enough to force roll a perform check (drawing) to create the image up in my previous post XD

IT: what about lv progression and skills? ^^

Planktoneter is the Belgian word for 'eater of plankton'
I named the build after the first player to roll one like this. That was my guildie who decided to give a complete random name (planktoneter), but I liked the randomness in the name so I decided to name it after him :-)

Planktoneter no longer exists (for character slot reasons) but the same player rolled a new bardcher now because he saw what Kevenia (my bardcher) can handle :-)

Thank you for my little present
    (B = bard, R = ranger, Ro = rogue)
My lvl progression was: BRRRRRRBBBBBRoRoBBBBBB and yet my trap skills are good enough, that was because when I rolled him I intended to go fighter and I didn't want to reroll after 12. But I can imagine the build has better skill ponts if you go RoBRRRRRRBBBBBRoBBBBBB

Skills: Perform, Search, Disable Device and UMD are necessary, other skills are flavor rlly. But if you follow the second lvl progression I think you'll have enough with these. Perform and DD are the most important for sure, with only 12 bard lvls you'll still want your perform over 60 to have a convincing capering/enthrallment (enthrall is an improved fascinate). And UMD for heal scrolls/tensers scrolls/artificer scrolls (heal scrolls are a very nice source of healing thanks to scroll and wand mastery).
Would you somehow have skill points left: Haggle is often welcome :-) Or Diplomacy/Bluff/Intimidate for quest objectives/optionals, but that is a matter of flavor IMO

    GL rolling one Neph :-)

Ok just tried to roll one on the paper and that's the result
Went half-elf with rogue dilly for the +3d6 sneak attack.
    I've done 1 and 11 rogue, 3-9 ranger 2 and 10-20 bard.
Maxed Umd, disable, perform, search and got a decent balance.
I assumed u didn't get no other cdp but AA (I thought to get Spellsinger but I don't have enough AP and I think U'd have need mental toughness for it).

Almost, I did take the virtuoso PrE for bard and it is very important for the build, as it provides endless songs, extra songs an 2 new forms of CC (enthrallment and capering). I suggest you drop the scroll/wand mastery IV for that and maybe human versality IV? Looks the most obvious to me

Based on my current build (which is not a ranged char though), I could also see one where you drop 4 ranger levels, OC and it's pre-reqs. 2 of those are lost when you lose ranger, one you spend on Inspire Excellence, and one on Maximize or Empower Healing. At that point you can lose the wand mastery enhancements entirely. But that would be a much more support build with less melee capability. (I joke that I can do anything except kill things on my current build.)
