Question Is there a crafting guide for dummies?

Was just wondering because I myself am not very good at crafting and I get confused alot. If there was a guide I could use, it might help me out some. All I want to do atm is craft some level 1 gear for my new TR guy that will last for a few levels. My crafting scores are around low 40's from crunching item mostly and thats about all the experience I have in crafting. Helpful hints or suggestions welcomed. And please don't tell me to get someone else to do it for me LOL.

Also any suggested types of gear, like combinations, would be a great help.

    Hope this helps.

Turbine used to run a nice weekly blog about Cannith crafting with step by step instructions and some very useful item suggestions (more can be found in the comments).
Here's the link: Crafting with Courtney

For equipping a low level character, my first suggestion would be: If you have access to house Cannith quests, gather the 50 Cannith favor on any one character capable of doing it. This will enable you to purchase marks of house Cannith, which are ingredients for crafting shards of masterful craftsmanship I. These shards lower the minimum level on a crafted item by 2.

When equipping a fresh character, here is my check list, more or less ordered by priority:
    1) invulnerability (armor)
    2) +2 relevant abilities (con, str, int, ...). To equip +2 ability items at level 1 you need to apply shards of masterful craftsmanship to them.
    3) fortification
    4) skill items
    5) elemental burst greatsword

There's a pretty standard gear setup I've landed on for virtually all my alts in the first several levels, regardless if melee, arcane or divine. Most (if not all) of this involves masterful craftsmanship. The basic breakdown:

Bold = change from previous level
Yellow = crafted on BTA blank and never disjuncted; passed around to all alts
Reign rings are no longer available

    Level 1
    Head: Enchantment Save +5
    Eyes: Detect Secret Doors
Neck: Necklace of Contemplation (for the false life)
Back: Skill +5 (depending on what the character needs; often Spot. Never concentration thanks to necklace.)
    Wrist: Will Save +4
    Hand: Reflex Save +4
    Waist: Light Fortification
Feet: Feather Falling boots of Jump +3
Ring: Reign ring: Spell Resistance (19)
Ring: Reign ring: Strength +5 or Intelligence +6
Trinket: Melee Alacrity or nothing for caster
    Body: Invulnerability
Weapon: (risia weapon or thaumaturgy staff)

    Level 3
    Head: Enchantment Save +6
    Eyes: Detect Secret Doors
    Neck: Necklace of Contemplation
    Back: Skill +7
    Wrist: Will Save +4
    Hand: Reflex Save +4
    Waist: Moderate Fortification
Feet: Feather Falling boots of Jump +3
Ring: Reign ring: Spell Resistance (19)
Ring: Reign ring: Strength +5 or Intelligence +6
Trinket: Melee Alacrity or Lore for caster
    Body: Invulnerability
Weapon: (risia weapon or thaumaturgy staff)

    Level 5
    Head: Enchantment Save +6
    Eyes: Detect Secret Doors
    Neck: Health +4
    Back: Skill +10
    Wrist: Resistance +4
    Hand: Strength +4
    Waist: Moderate Fortification
Feet: Feather Falling boots of Jump +3
Ring: Reign ring: Spell Resistance (19)
    Ring: Improved False Life
Trinket: Melee Alacrity or Lore for caster
    Body: Life Shield of Invulnerability
Weapon: (risia weapon or thaumaturgy staff)

    Level 7
    Head: Enchantment Save +6
    Eyes: Detect Secret Doors
    Neck: Health +4
Back: Feather Falling of Skill +10
    Wrist: Resistance +5
    Hand: Strength +4
    Waist: Heavy Fortification
    Feet: Boots of the Mire
    Ring: Ring of the Mire
    Ring: Greater False Life
Trinket: Melee Alacrity or Lore for caster
    Body: Life Shield of Invulnerability
Weapon: (risia weapon or thaumaturgy staff)

The list of crafted BTA items I hold on a bank mule waiting for each new life:

ML1 Screaming rapier of Bleeding (I have a lot of rogue splashes)
ML1 Goggles of Secret Door Detection
ML1 Feather Falling boost of Jump +3
    ML7 Bracers of Resistance +5
ML7 Ring of Greater False Life
    ML7 Belt of Heavy Fortification
