    Lightbulb Petition: Anti-Paladin

I would SERIOUSLY LOVE to see Anti-paladin (CE knight/paladin) as a new player class in DDO. I used to play the he!! out of the shadowknight class in EQ. APs are in the D&D world and would be very easy to make as either a totally new class or perhaps a build for paladin. The build for an AP would be best as the EQ build, part warrior/part necro. Adding feign death (or whatever you want to call it) as a skill for rogue, artificer, necromancer and anti-paladin would be awesome.
On a separate note, please, NO MORE TRADESKILLS! I switched from EQ to DDO because it was more straight forward. EQ became so complex due to tradeskills, epic mounts, in game games and in game currencies and other bullcrap. Leave DDO less complicated and more pure gaming.

While not every character strives to be a hero, the majority of the quests and storylines in DDO make the assumption that the parties involved are not actively villainous in nature. (There are some exceptions, such as Purging the Heretics, but even Running With the Devils involves an unfortunate situation forced upon the party through duplicity.)

    Err what is tradeskill?
That which does not kill you gives you experience points.

I was thrown by that too but apparently it is an Everquest name for crafting.

"Tradeskilling, or crafting, lets players create new equipment and furniture using resources found in the game world. You can choose to develop a tradeskill as a side activity to your adventuring career, or you can focus your character exclusively on tradeskill progression. Everquest II was designed to make the tradeskill career interesting and rewarding in its own right."

While I'm pretty sure there won't be an anti-paladin, it would be nice to see blackguards and other melee classes that are opposite of the paladin. At the very least I think a a spellcasting/melee hybrid like the paladin, only with arcane spells, would be fun; people have been calling for duskblades and hexblades for years.

OMG I LIKE THIS THING IN ANOTHER GAME SO PUT IT IN THIS ONE!!!

I enjoyed playing a creature handler in SWG, doesnt mean I'm asking for a skill to tame Hezrou in DDO If they wanted to put in JTL with a Spelljammer skin, I'd take that though....

Plus, they need to EXPAND crafting, not minimize it. Right now Cannith crafting is pointless.

And as others have said, no evil PCs. Sorry you have to be a good guy for once

Melee arcane caster = 1h Arty, maybe with a /2 fgt splash. The problem is that you'd have to have some balance between the physical defense of an armored melee class with the defensive buffs available to an arcane - without completely nerfing the class by not circumventing ASF in some way, like Arti does.

You can already try to do something like that: e.g., wiz 12 / pal 6 / ftr 2 (Pale Master / whatever). Not saying it's a good idea, but the beauty of DDO's character system is you have a lot of ways of combining classes and abilities together.

Fat chance. Dunno what the first "real" crafting system in DDO was, but it's been 5 years since Turbine added the Shroud (aka greensteel crafting) and it's just been growing since. We ain't goin' back.

ok well I suppose I can live without an anti-paladin or evil knight...as far as crafting, all I'm saying is that I hope DDO doesn't go crazy with in game add-ons like EQ and WoW have done. I like the fact that DDO is far more actual gaming...

You can skip Cannith Crafting entirely if you don't enjoy it; odds are you can buy any unbound shards you want off the AH or in trade chat anyway. It's both time- and resource-intensive to level up and IMHO only worth it if you have a lot of alts and/or want to make money off unbound shards.

Virtually all of the rest of the crafting systems in DDO don't work like other MMO crafting systems; it's more like "collect ingredients and turn in for gear," really.

Well we do have necromancers and assassins too. I think in pnp you had to be evil to play one. So I dont think this argument is really valid that we can not have certain class because in pnp it had to be evil.

He said he wanted to be CE I said that wouldnt happen and antipaladins arent a real class anyways blackguards arent the samething and would really bring nothing to the game.

I'd rather see the Hexblade before a Blackguard/Antipaladin any day.

The Hexblade has a distinct flavor of its own (a dark warrior that fights using cold steel and hexes), and it can translate pretty well to DDO mechanics. If they did so with Favored Soul, there's a chance for Hexblade as well (it's part of the Complete X supplements).

That is, if the idea is to have a class that's a mixture of magic and swordplay that also has a vibe of "Paladin opposite". They get curses instead of smites, a slightly nerfed version of Divine Grace (applicable only to spells and SLAs), their spells are geared towards Enchantment and Necromancy, and they get Mettle (like Evasion, but for Fortitude and Will saves), which is much more useful here than on tabletop (because spells such as Disintegrate hurt even if you pass the save). Finding three PrEs (or, given the upcoming Enhancement pass, three paths; one could definitely be the Blackguard, if going for the thematic stretch of pure Ranger -> AA) will be difficult, but not entirely impossible.

    So yeah. /not signed

Antipaladins can be quite fun to play, in the proper framework and campaign.
DDO is neither of those things, and Antipaladins would not be a thematic fit with the rest of the game and would require a lot of retconning to make them not seem head-scratchingly out of place.

If Evil had been an inclusive element from this game's beginning - sure, bring em on.
Since that's not the case, and the Devs deliberately want us to be the Good Guys... no thank you.

Death Knights from the Fiend Folio would be fun as well.
