Default Does role-playing in DDO work?

What are the reports back from the quests?

Do people have fun role-playing in a DDO quest?

Is voice-chat used or text only?

Does it slow down the quests enough to make it but a novelty?

The permadeath guilds have made themselves a viable niche did the role-playing guilds?

    Both.

It's a fun way to re-experience the same quest. Reacting to the situation as one thinks his/her character would react. Same type of stuff I used to do with PnP.

There is an entire thread in the Sarlona Guilds forum outlining which guilds are RP and what kind of RP (heavy, medium, lite, in game, in forum, on guild website, etc).

I've been posting write ups of our weekly static RP 'permadeath' group here. The 'in character' stuff is a bit embellished for effect, but some of the quotes are pretty close to what people actually said in game, and it gives the overall feel of how our characters interacted as we quest.

Is there any specific server that is more open to RP or has a higher/more active RP population? Because to me, if you're going to play any D&D related game, there needs to be some roleplay :P

Sarlona is considered the "unofficial" RP server.

In my guild, role-play is mostly regulated to character biographies and the fact that we are a theme guild with a backstory and guild colors, official guild weapons and what not.

Oooo, reports, reports. Is that like those Wavecrest Manifesto thingies? <pats pockets> Cos I always loose those...

Oh, fun ... well you know me, I'm all "Girls just wanna have FUN!!"
<whispers> What's he in here for anyway if he's not having fun?

What's next ... voice? "HEY CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?"
    <stony silence>

Slow, slow .... What do you mean I'm always holding up the party anyway? I totally can't see if my hair gets loose, so of course I've got to stop and put it up! And have you ever tried beating on ogres with a broken fingernail? I should think not!

Hey, Brun, what does "viable niche" mean? Cos if this guy's gonna start using words like that, I think we're soooo in the wrong party.

Anyway, role playing's brill! You can sooo upset peeps without any effort AT ALL!

I imagine a lot of people have a good time with role playing, as I do see role playing guilds looking for members. So they are out there. And while I love a good role play session in tabletop, sadly I have long since hit the "Just get in, get out, and move on" stage from having repeated the quests over and over for years to proplerly join in the fun.
