    Unhappy Pay to win much?

    Otto's Irresistible Holiday Box

A jam-packed bundle that contains the following:

    - 1 Stone of Experience: Allows level 8 or higher characters to immediately level up to level 16! To use this item, your character must be level 8 to 15. This item is tradable, but is not auctionable or sellable to vendors.

I worked hard to get my completionist. I've been playing a while more than is good for me, and I've sadly never pulled a +4 tome.

This kind of thing diminishes my enjoyment of the game and will make me buy less Turbine Points, not more.

But perhaps I am in the minority. I understand there is a newly hired chief of 'Pay to win', so I suppose we will be seeing more of this.

So, this is the same stuff as the other thread with 300+ posts?

And just like those other threads, no one can explain how you "win" by getting to 16 and still needing millions of XP more to cap.

Considering you cannot actually win at DDO, only fulfill your own personal goals (which I include completionist into this category, even though it technically says you "win" ddo, we all know it is just a personal achievement that by no way makes you "win" the game). I do not think the ''paying to win'' argument can be made.

Can you argue that is it frustrating that people with some spare cash can level a lot faster and reach some goals you are aspiring for faster by buying it? Sure, but that is the nature of a free to play game. You do not have to pay a dime to play DDO, no one is forcing you to pay a penny but keeping the servers alive and the staff employed costs money that cannot come out of thin air. This is something you just have to accept to enjoy and play the game at whatever cost you are willing to spend. Instead of focusing on all the negatives about paying to "win", how about play the game and focus on how much fun you are having leveling up, getting completionist the hard way, getting your 20th completions, destinies completed, etc.

Also, one last thing. People who are willing to pay real $ are always going to have an advantage. That's life, even without these leveling stones there's nothing stopping people with $ from buying high level characters. Sure its not "legit" because Turbine does not get their share of the money from the transaction, but it can and STILL DOES AND WILL HAPPEN regardless of what game you play, free to play, pay to win, pay to subscribe, or whatever. So again, instead of focusing on what everyone else is doing to get their goals accomplished, have fun with yours however you get them done.

This pay to cheat garbage is the way DDO is going.

The XP system is broken beyond belief, but instead of fixing it to make the game more fun, someone comes along and sells a cheat code.

How long will it be until they start selling extra uses of '/stuck' and adding stuck spots to quests deliberately?
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

Honestly it doesn't bother me.....the game is just as if not more enjoyable as I found it when I started except now there are a bunch more people willing to "P2W" to fund it.

I find it rather amusing to be someone who is not a P2W player....but has been playing since the early days......putting together a pug and outplaying people who rely on the store.

It's a choice really....one no one has to use......and I find in the end people who use the store for everything turn more into P2L rather than P2W.

DDO is still it's own thing......it just needed some of the other stuff popular to MMO games to thrive.

That being said I really do think you should have to have at least one fully capped TR character in your account somewhere before you can use an XP stone on one of said accounts characters.

Exactly...as Chai said in the other threads, the game is no more the product, DDO store items are the product, the game is just the environment in which the thing you buy in the store are used.

Oh, and pay2cheat is probably a better way to put it than pay2win, at least people won't start complaining that you cannot win DDO, without understanding what pay2win really means

Yea because people that can pay extra for things are cheats.

Just like those cheaty cheaters that pay for private healthcare instead of NHS, dam cheaters!

Or that bloke who's got a faster more expensive car, he must be a cheater too.

Or that person that paid extra for the "que-jumper" ticket at the theme park.

There is no cheat, at worst its "pay-to-save-time"

OP, good job, another thread on the topic was just what we needed, the previous whine nearly dropped to page two! :O

I'm playing pinball, this guy comes up to me and tells me the Bally's guy sold him a device that for 10 hours, he can tilt the whole damn time.

He even tells me his high score.

I say to him, "cool story bro" and look back down at my pinball game and keep playing.

Not giving a **** about how other people play or not play the game, is so freaking liberating.

And your examples demonstrate what? In a game, once you bought it, things are supposed to be fair..you can pay what you want in cosmetics and convenience, but you shouldn't be able to circumvent game rules or obtain unfair advantages.

If you got a porsche and i got a 500 there's nothing wrong at all, unless we are supposed to make a fair race, in which case we should both have the same car

In the pay2cheat race i bet you are winning, i only buy Adventure packs, races, classes and cosmetics when i got some spare TP, i'm not supposed to fuel their "smart" marketing moves

*Buzz Wrong answer. It was a trick question. Because it is not a race. And the winner enjoys the game more. So you might be right in that regard

So, would you find the game less fun without the ddo store?

So you think that most of the money they are doing with the pay2cheat items are invested to make the game better? That must be the reason why the number of pay2cheat items and bugs grow each patch/update Oh wait, bugs aren't good features, nvm

Regardless of how the specific revenue is used it adds to the bottom line of the game. If the game is seen as profitable then they will spend more money on developing it.
We had a stable relatively bug free game for ages with shroud as end game because the game was not making money. I can live with bugs until they are fixed and I enjoy the new stuff when it comes out. I can live with the store and other stuff as well. If you don't like it you don't have to participate.

The whole game is PTW, if you have spent any money at all you have access to stuff others don't and you know what I don't care.
