Default A different kind of "loot" thread...

If you are a fairly new player, and you are running a particular quest in order to get a particular item, please tell the other players. It helps if you mention it early on; something like, "I'm hoping to find the XYZ item."

The reason you may want to do this is because, especially if you have several multi-TR's in the group, the item you are specifically looking for because it is a big improvement over what you are currently using/carrying, is likely vendor trash to the multi-TR. If you ask for it someone will probably pass it to you without a second thought. The reason I suggest you mention it early is because when a player is running that quest for the 100th time he is probably just going to hit "loot" on all the chests unless someone specifically mentions they are looking for something.

If the item is BtC or BtA, you're out of luck after everyone loots the chest. But if you ask politely at the start of the quest or before we hit the chest, the odds are you will be passed the item. In Servants of the Overlord today, a new player asked for the Darkstorm Helm in the locked chest and got four of them passed to him. He was absolutely thrilled and thanked us all a bunch of times, whereas me and the other three guys who passed them were just going to vendor the helms without a thought.
All on Thelanis: Archenpaul Sixblade, Archernicus Thornwood, Gregorovic Redcloak, Hermanius Brightblade, Jaklomeo Evermug, Jonathraxius Kane, and Praetoreus Silvershield.

    Cogito ergo summopere periculosus.

Let me add a stipulation to this: don't beg for the item, just ask for it once. As long as you're not annoyingly begging for the item, you'll likely get passed it (assuming it's not really rare or a raid item or the like), as most of us that have been playing for a while have multiples of them banked somewhere that we'll never use.

Of course, the likelihood of those that need to see this getting to see it isn't that high - but there's still a chance.

Often when I get raid loot me or my guildies don't need I just give it to some random person in the group

Unless someone has actually mentioned that they want it, then I'll just toss it to them.

Without a doubt asking is the way to go. I have no problem passing loot to someone who puts it nicely.. if its one of those Gimmie! situations they can just go jump off a bridge.

This thread does not meet the necessary DOOM requirements.

My own example is letting everyone in the Lord of Blades party exactly what spirits I need. That way people who don't need them will know that there's at least ONE guy to give them to (I've seen stuff like that being left behind... What a waste).

    I'll also agree to:
    1) Don't beg for an item. Either roll for it fair and square or just ask once. Begging is pathetic.
    2) Don't offer money or a trade unless everyone else agrees. If someone wins a roll for said item and someone else comes in and says "I'll give you X Platinum for it!" - that's just low and dirty.
    3) If you offer something for a roll, give it to whoever won it. Don't change your mind or suddenly agree to give it to a guildy insyead. Don't make judgments. If a barbarian won a roll for Torc, make sure he's TRing into something that will put it into good use, or make it very clear to him that it's useless. If you sense that he's being an a$$, then well give it to someone else. I, for example, won a roll for the sword of shadow, on my wizard. It was not passed to me, saying I won't use it. A day after I TRed into barbarian, and had to re-run the raid almost 20 times to get another SOS.
    4) That said, always check if your guildies need the said item BEFORE you put it on a roll. Less griefing, more guild awesomeness.

    I usually write:

Hey, if no one is looking for this, I could totally use it.

And, when I fail rolls for stuff I need, I write:

    Congrats!

no, no, I'm kidding. I always write "please, please, I really need that and you don't! Plus I'm the leader of this group! Give it to me!" and when someone else wins the roll "hey, he said low! Don't give it to him, I'm the leader!"

    That way, everyone has fun

I have it on good rumor that Johnny Monsarrat, Jeremy Gaffney, Kevin Langevin, and Timothy Miller all run VoN raids every 3 days on 10 different alts trying to get the SoS...and as of yet haven't succeeded

Ummmm this post sounds like... everyone loot is his loot... please follow these rules. Or another way to say it is...I ALWAYS follow this etiquette. errr... unless this, this...or oh yeah...if this happens...then no... but otherwise...THESE ARE THE RULES.... lol?

I like the much simpler version... my loot is my loot. I will keep it, sell it, give it away...at my discretion. I will not be wishy washy and make bad changes of mind...cuz I do not want to **** everyone off who might want the item I am keeping, selling or giving away... but it is my item.

errrr... unless I joined one of those groups stating it was their item.... or I got invited to free loot at the end of a quest but the person was looking for XX... or... I was on a guild run specifically to find an item for someone...

    LOL...

If I were on my monk and we have an elite Hound Of Xoriat group, can I say, "Looking for Tharaak Hound Wraps?" or +3 to +4 wisdom upgrade tomes?

    Yeah...

My Str dumped Wiz inherited an SOS from Von6 this life. I tried to give the thing away repeatedly, no one would speak up. I wasn't leaving the darn thing in the chest...
