    Question Not satisfied with the possibilities to buy MOTU via German-language DDO Market page

    Hello,

    I just want to give feedback.

    I tried to buy MOTU during the "Black Friday Sale" via the German-language "DDO Market" page.

    It didn't work out for me.

    The reson, why lies in several points :

    1. The DDO Market page says in its help section the following - bold printing by me :

    Wir akzeptieren die Kreditkarten von Visa®, MasterCard®,American Express® sowie Debitkarten oder Geldautomatenkarten wenn diese von einem der aufgeführten Kreditkartenanbieter ausgestellt wurden. Wir akzeptieren auch Schecks, Zahlungsanweisungen und Überweisungen. Wenn Sie per Scheck, Zahlungsanweisung oder Überweisung bezahlen möchten, erhalten Sie bei der Bestellung Anweisungen darüber, in welcher Weise die Zahlung zu erfolgen hat.
    This help page explicitely the possibility of the use of Überweisungen - bank transfers - but the DDO Market page doesn't list it as a viable option !

    The DDO Market doesn't give me the possibility to use any one of these possibilities.

    2. I tried to use PayPal instead.

    It did work - until I logged in.

    Digital River requires from Paypal the use of a Credit Card - and that's something I do not have. And I did not manghe Paypal for me so that it doesn't use it. Paypal uses for me bank transfers - the "Überweisung" from the above quote - and that exclusively. It personally set my options there up for it.

    And still, although I thought that PayPal sould be able to pay MOTU using the Lastschriftverfahren, it did require a Credit Card from me !

    What the ... ???


    The result is now, that, although I have a working PayPal account, it doesn't let me buy MOTU using the German Lastschriftverfahren (it's basically a bank transfer).

    Now, how do I buy MOTU, then ???

    And that even although Digital River is an European firm, and therefore should at least know the possibilities of European customers (IBAN, for example) ???


    Besides, what I don't quite understand as well is, why the DDO Market account page lists all U.S. Federal States, but none of the German Federal States ??? Is Germany so unimportant that its Federal States just don't matter ???


    As an end result, I would like to, but just cannot buy MOTU. Both DDO Market and Digital River forces me to use a payment method I don't use.

    Considering how uncommon Credit Cards still are in Germany, you won't find many German customers this way - except those who already have Credit Cards.

    What puzzles me most, however, is tht Digital River tries to force me to use a Credit Card even via PayPal !

    This is especially puzzling to me, since PayPal does allow other viable payment methods (like simple bank transfers) as well !

    Edit : The most funny thing is that Digital River has - according to ikipedia - a headquarter in Germany as well. If I go to them personally, will they accept my cash ? (Although it's already too late for it now.)

    I just don't know what to think. To me, this online payment thing is a failure - at least until I buy myself a Credit Card - and you can be sure that I won't do this. Not within the next 20 years.

    I was able to buy the MotU expansion via the German-language "DDO Market" page using PayPal. I'm not sure where exactly your attempt failed, but PayPal informed me that they'd pass my street address etc. on to Digital River, so maybe it was just that the data you entered into the form didn't match the data PayPal has exactly. Logging in at PayPal beforehand and copying and pasting your data into the form at Digital River may help.

    Interesting : When I do log in into PayPal, then I'm forced to use a Credit Card, even although my personal PayPal-setup doesn't contain any.

    When I do *not* log in into PayPal - THEN I get the possibility to pay with the Lastschriftverfahren ! - As a so-called "PayPal Guest".

    What I don't understand is this : I could do Lastschrift from within PayPal, too. Why doesn't it let me to ?

    Edit : PayPal says to me that it has detected that I already have an PayPal-account - and that I'm required to log in to finish the buy with the Lastschrift payment method.
    And when I log in, it automatically switches to Credit Cards !!! Argh !!! It switches to credit cards as if I had never ever used he "Lastschrift"-payment option ! It seem to have forgotten it. I'm getting mad now.

    Sorry to hear about the ongoing problems, especially since the 75% sale is a rather short-termed one. At a very wild guess, if you are using a JavaScript blocker like NoScript (or disabled JavaScript in your browser), then allowing turbine.com and digitalriver.com (plus paypal.com and paypalobjects.com) may help. Lack of the ability to run scripts may cause weird behavior of websites that rely on scripts.

    I suspect PayPal recognizes your bank account or your email address, so if the problem is not script-related, and you do have a second bank account, then you may want to try getting a new email address and use that together with the second bank account to buy the expansion. The email address I used when buying the expansion was not the same as the one I used to register my DDO account, so that shouldn't be a problem.

    Buying the expansion at Digital River really only yields an activation code, which can then be entered on Turbine's account management page, so if everything else fails it should be possible for anybody else to buy the expansion and pass the activation code on to you. I'd ask customer support beforehand, though.

    It still wants to have a Credit Card.
    At least I did a bug report there.

    By the way, the PayPal FAQ tells me that "because of security reasons, sometimes Lastschrift isn't allowed".

    Credit Cards are safer ? lol

    Lastschriftverfahren is safe for you because you can simply go to your bank, state that you did not authorize the payment, and get your money back. But that may be not the security they are refering to.


    As one last attempt since the offer is still up, I will try to describe how I ordered my MotU pack as far as I remember or can replay now. At no point during the ordering process I logged in at Digital River or Turbine; logging in at Turbine to enter my access code only happened after I had bought the pack and received the code.

    I went to http://store.turbine.com/store/turbi...oryID.58733100 and clicked on "Jetzt kaufen" for the pack I wanted. Was taken to the Warenkorb and clicked on "Zur Kasse". Entered my email address and a password (no idea why that was necessary), plus my name, street address, etc. as required, and also selected PayPal as my payment method. Clicked on "Weiter".

    I am not exactly sure about the next steps as I cannot simply replay them now, but as usual when paying via PayPal, they opened a page at PayPal for me, where I could log in and confirm the payment. Paypal then sent me back to Digital River, where I was informed that I had successfully bought the pack and got my access code. The access code was also sent via email.

    And btw there is no credit card attached to my PayPal account.

    I suspect you need more than just luck, but still: good luck!

    Also, bit aside point here but related. Do make an extra "language" tab for EU, not all europeans manage complex german or french text, neither do they all use pounds. English language tab, with prices and offers in euros.

    Of course they didn't get paid, because I couldn't !

    It says (roughly translated) : "many thanks for your order. But since we didn't receive any money during the last 3 days, we cancelled the order."
