The shard/seal grind is just too random and frustrating for many. It is an incredibly bad mechanic that has no challenge to it whatsoever, just mindless mindnumbing grinding.

When you look at the new system in Eveningstar with the faction vendors and the commendations I would say that is the way to go. I think the best way to do this change is to introduce Patron commendations that drop from chests or at as endrewards for the chains on epic. Then you can just get the item upgraded at a Patron vendor or trade the commendations for the wanted shard/seal.

I do have a tickle in my brain saying that they are actually planning on revising the epic loot acquisition/upgrade along with the augment slot/gem changes. Think its my third eye reporting in...

I'd prefer tradable seals and shards, but a turn-in would be ok too.

    Handpicked raised the ante here.

So the choice might now be:

Make the old Epic items stronger but retain the old drop rate and no ability to trade anything other than scrolls.

Keep the old Epic items as they are now but implement trading, BtA, etc.

Personally, I think I'd lean to choice #1. The term "Epic" might have lost some of it's intimidation factor, but I always thought that Epic should mean pretty much the ultimate of its kind: hardest quests, best loot- that sort of thing. That no longer seems necessarily to be the case.

Here's a thought- what if the end rewards included for each player at least one shard and/or seal when the quest was done on EE? That would certainly give players more incentive to tackle the highest difficulty in the game.

Unless it'S LoD where seal drop only on norm.

I may actually consider picking up DDO again if that change makes live.
