I don't think anyone has an issue with the *free stuff*, it's just an issue with it's timing. You essentially have two seperate specifically unlinked timed "events" in play simultaneously.
1. Mabar [which should only be once a year]
2. +25% Epic XP [not as often as we'd like and it seems not as often as Heroic XP since they've been seperate]
For most of us it is a choice. If you're dead set on your Mabar Gear you'll have a chance to complete it now. If you don't care for Mabar and prefer to grind out another Epic Destiny then this bonus is for you.
Thank you Turbine for giving something for everyone*.
*Discalimer - "Everyone" may not include the following: People who have to go away from the game during the holiday; people who can't make decisions or choices like the two presented [you know the type wo probably still follow "paths" at ChaGen]; people who really want to grind out their Epic destiny as quickly as possible but also want Epic Cloaks on their characters and/or Epic Robes on their PM's; People who will be really delighted at the +25 Epic XP but will experience soul crushing lag every time the Spectral Dragon appears even if they're in a quest in Forgotten Realms; peope who complain about free stuff becuse they like complaining; people who moan about two #208 buses arriving at the same time when one of them should have arrived 15 minutes earlier and ignore the fact that they could just be thankful that a bus has arrived.

Yes this is correct, I played Paladins, even pure Paladins before Update 23!!!
If I offered a kid a Reese's, and he took it, and started whining he wanted the Snickers in my other hand, I'm not sure I could resist punching his parents.
That little anecdote aside, there are a whole two days of no XP/Mabar overlap, schedule your time accordingly.
Work on your anecdotes.
I like it the way it is.
English is not my first language - misinterpretations galore !
You guys are missing the point of these bonuses.
TR-junkies are always TR'ing, regardless of bonus or no-bonus. They hide in lowbie land forever. There's no reason for Turbine to give these people a bonus because they're rescuing Arlos regardless.
End game grinders are after the shiniest shinies. They don't need an epic XP bonus to chase the carrot because the carrot is always the central goal. TR'ing is just painful detour (at best) and every second away from running high level content is torture.
You give bonuses of one type to get people playing more of the content they tend to avoid unless given a good reason...encourage them to get out of their comfort zones (read:traps). Sure, it probably doesn't work for everyone but if you get 10% to swap to the other side for a while, that's 10% of your player base that is going to delay exhausting their fun here for another week.
No more taking turns. Someone else is eating cake and "I" don't like it. "I" do not like seeing others getting a gift while I cannot have one again.
What's going to be next Hokie? More complaints that the Lotto does not give away free stuff that the player cannot use and it needs to change?
Happy Thanksgiving Hokie! May you and yours be well and your XP rewards be grand!
Thank you Turbine for another free gift.
I think many will tremendously like both things going on at the same time. If you don't like Mabar (or anther event) and you're not a friend of doing all solo playing, you're in a bad spot. Give a bonus to split up the playerbase more and you have a smaller bored group. Don't complain about having to choose between two good things. If you want Mabar stuff, play it. XP bonus just shortens the time but doesn't give you anything you can't get at other times.
BTW having it epic only with all its downsides has a huge benefit: players with mainly lvl 20+ character have less fun in Mabar then those with lower level characters. Server issues aside, many clients and humans will crumble to the onslaught of shiny spells and special moves. Something like graphical overload does exist.
Yay, epic XP, my newest epic gimp likeses
<seemingly offensive Army of Darkness quote>
Mabar is great! 25% bonus epic XP is great!
I actually came back to DDO in October (from a break that started at the end of June) to play Mabar. The fact that Mabar is a total train wreck this year doesn't matter. Its still great! Of course, the fact that I had 22,000 motes stockpiled from last year, when Mabar actually worked, and was able to craft all my gear may be influencing my opinion.
Now, I don't have to worry about deciding between Mabar and 25% bonus epic XP. I can just grind epic XP to level my epic destinies, which are full of abilities that still don't work 5 months after release. There's at least a chance that they might work, sometime in the future. Its great!
Admittedly, I don't try to explain any of this to people who don't play DDO. They might try to convince me that its not so great! Can I have another cup of Kool-Aid?
