Hi. I'm trying to log into ddo on an older machine. The game runs acceptably if i can get logged in, but that often takes dozens of tries.. lasting several minutes each. The problem is that by the time all the content loads and i make it to the point where i can see my character i get "Connection to the server has been lost.". I'm assuming this must be some sort of timer based problem. I try to log out in places where i think there will be less things to load on startup, like the guild ship or portable hole.. but that doesn't help much. Is there a way i can increase this timer so i can actually log in and play?
One problem i can see is that this timer must start the second i hit the "Login" button. I've tested this with 2 computers and 2 accounts... on the 2nd computer i will see the guild login message appear immediately when i hit Login button on the problem computer. Personally i feel that this message shouldn't appear until i have actually logged on, but that's another issue.
Another thing i've discovered with this technique is that i'm technically logged off well before i actually see my toon. On my 2nd computer i will see the guild log off message while on the problem computer i'm still looking at the loading screen. A couple minutes later the loading screen will finish and my character will be there, as well as all the icons and surrounding players/items, but there is an orange link/connection icon. A bit later i will get the "Connection to the server has been lost." message and the game closes.
Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Well, not any advice.. "Buy a better computer" or "Buy more memory" is not the kind of advice i am looking for. I'm fine with the performance of the game once i get logged in..
