Well, the patch has come and gone and now my game crashes as soon as I choose a character, doesn't even go to a loading screen, just back to desktop. Was working earlier today (immediately following the patch). Only difference is I updated my audio drivers.

I was able to get DDO working after a complete removal and re-installation of the Standard Resolution download.

These are the steps that Turbine had me do to try and trouble shoot the problem.

None of them worked, but I believe a solution was close. For some reason U16 does not like older systems.

I'm glad you got things to work, but its not older systems in general.

I'm on a 2006 Dell Desktop and not having anything new or unexpected happening.

First thing I'd try here is to reset the audio drivers to their previous version. Updated drivers should be helping, not hindering, the game - but if you changed it, unchange it to be sure it's not the cause.
Once you confirm the drivers aren't the issue, let them re-update.

I did a rollback on the audio drivers to test and the result was the same, completely unable to enter game world. I also checked firewall permissions and all security settings before moving on to Nvidia First Packet settings.

While changing the settings for Nvidia First Packet did help stabilize the connection (I got to play one character for about two hours), the crash that did occur froze (completely unresponsive to any input or commands for more that 10 minutes) my PC to the point that I had to do a hard restart.

Since the update and patch, something has changed in how my PC communicates with the game servers. Any software changes I've made (driver updates/rollbacks, defrags, etc.) I've done to counteract the decreased/lack of performance of the game on my PC.

Here's a copy of my DxDiag to see if anyone can spot something I may have missed.

here's some more information about what's going on when my client crashes. I have had 43 of these instances in the last 24 hours alone, according to my performance logs. Below are the three error codes I keep getting when I crash.

I run through Steam, and after a bizarre occurrance of DDO vanishing from it requiring a full re-download...thrice...I am up and running now. Not sure if that helps or not.

Just trying to get a feel for whether the issues are tied to the game running through Steam or not. Hopefully we'll get more people to respond to get a better cross-section of players.

Due to how DDO is, you don't have to run it through steam even if you downloaded it through steam. Just go to that directory directly and launch the game manually.

Hordo probably got caught by steam updating the files on record which caused DDO to update again. That recently happened to a few games beyond DDO and LOTRO.

Following your advice from the thread I started in General. Will see if that does it. I uninstalled and deleted all local files for DDO and repaired Steam and am currently reinstalling DDO. Here's hoping...

Thumbs up maybe this will help.

Ive been haveing the character log issue as well.
I can log in sometimes but usually i get a crash error.

    So i tried something different.

i took DDO out of fullscreen mode when i select my character. I have not had a crash in window mode as of yet. Once i get in game i just turn fullscreen mode back on.

    Hopefully this helps.

Well, it seems that the update and patch were the straw that broke the camels back. There were a whole host of issues running rampant on my machine. Not the least of which was my heatsink not making contact with my processor. So, between overheating and a spaghetti knot in place of my registry, I think I may have found the issues on my end. Still not getting the most updated version of the launcher for some reason. Have not actually jumped in game yet after all the fixes for the problems on my end, so will have to see.

I was able to play soon after the update- went through a whole quest and collected rewards- upon logging off I got the dnd crash error- and was not able to log into the game world afterwards- I then went to another server made a new character -and played- tried logging in with new character after log out- and couldnt get past the load screen.
re installed defragged- re d-loaded tried logging in without full screen/ everything i know- i opened my task manager and watched the memory usage- when swithcing to an older character it sky rocketed from 3 % to 37%.
and when loading into world- the client said 'not responding' for a couple seconds ' then game running' for about a second- then not responding again until it would ctd with an error code- cx00005..
my firewall lets everything through including awesominium or whatever its called... and I re booted my router- never had an issue before - smooth as silk-
i do run win xp sp 2 on this - i wonder how many others havent updated to sp3 and have this issue.
thats my guess at the present time- im going to up grade to win 7 soon-
I havent received any word from my support ticked in 3 days -I sent them the dxdiag and the error report-
I figured id post here - I suppose just to get it off my chest

    Default Same Problem

I have had the issue of ddo "dnd client has stopped working" just after i click enter after i choose my character to log in. I tried contacting support and just received an email to turn graphics down, but i have been playing for awhile and could run the game pre u16. I use windows 7 and a Nvidia GeForce 600 series so I am unsure if I have a Nvidia firewall but any clues to find it or get rid of it?
