Default Turbulent Epee will not do sneak attacks.

I reported this thru the bug report.

When I finally reached level 14 I was very excited to be able to use the Turbulent Epee.

Since my toon is a rogue with the assassination prestige-I am quite annoyed that a very fine weapon like this won't do what my rogue is built to do.

No sneak attack means no assassination either.

Have tried it as a main hand, off hand, as 1 of a pair of all my other weapons, and by itself.

Tried it in several different wildernesses, and with different sets of armor.

The weapon does not do sneak attacks and when used in a pair won't allow the other weapon to do a sneak attack either.

Has anyone else have this happen to them?

The metalline and alignment damage on it works fine.

The turbulent blast on it works fine.

For any other type of toon it would probably be a nice piece.

    But for a rogue...pfftt!

Please add this as a fix to your next update.

stupid question time: Are you sure the attacks you were making would quality as a sneak attack?

On a more serious note, it is possible that the way they have the turbulent burst effect set up is causing you to damage the enemy prior to the physical attack happening, which would then agro the enemy on you (assuming you are by yourself) and then make the portion of the attack that would qualify as a sneak attack no longer qualify for sneak attack damage. They had a similar problem with the assassinate ability a few updates back.

It seems to work ok for me. I single equipped an epee and bluffed a mob and it gave me the sneak damage.

Edit: The screenie should be proof enough as I believe the epee is the only weapon capable of "Big random energy attack"

This. That bug has been recurring with various gear for many updates now. Test getting another player/hireling/summon to smack the mob a few times to hold aggro, then assassinate it.

yes all attempted sneak attacks would qualify.

When you hit the assassinate icon while in sneak mode and it hits, the combat log will always start out with the assassinate line first 'You hit Joe Mob with assassinate' Followed by your sneak attack line "you sneak attack joe mob and do x amount of damage'

Using the epee in such a way The icon fires but the combat log starts off with a simple 'you hit joe mob for x amount of damage'

No assassinate line, no sneak attack line.

The burst damage so far as always shown up third in my list of damage.

Sometimes I do manage to kill the mob in one blow but only because the total damage from both weapons adds up to enough.

This glitch only happens with the epee. All other weapons and weapon sets work fine and will assassinate when called for.

I attempted to use it with a hireling holding aggro. It didn't work then either.

More importantly, if I can't get assassinate with it when I am alone then it's just becomes a vanity piece.

Since not every other rogue has this happen when using the weapon, it may be something else-an item, trinket or something in my inventory causing a glitch with the epee.

I'm just going to bank it and use something else.

I use Turbulent Epee all the time on my assassin rogue in my Monday night static group. In fact, it's currently my main weapon (paired with either the envenomed blade or the sacrificial dagger).

We were running Epics last night, and I was assassinating stuff all over the place.

Edit: Jumped into a slayer area just to test it out. Unequipped my off-hand weapon and sneaked around to assassinate stuff. No dice - no assassinate, no sneak attacks. I guess all my assassinations have been coming from my off-hand weapon all this time.

I think what the OP is talking about is when you first attack a non-aggro'd mob.

If you just sneak up behind a non-aggro'd mob and attack you should get a sneak attack. I bet he is saying that is not happening.

So that means you would still get the sneak attack in if you bluffed the mob or it was aggro'd on someone else or you deception procs. Stuff like that.

I haven't tested this myself, but if I recall this was a problem in the past with that weapon. Maybe the issue is back?

    Thanks for the screenie.

Yes that is epee damage. If you are an assassin then its not working for you either. You have no assassinate line in your combat log so assassinate wasn't used.

My character will sneak attack and attempt assassination each time I try it concealed without having to use bluff or getting the mob to aggro someone else.

only time assassinate won't work after a successful throw is when the target makes its saving throw-then its just a bunch of damage=but your attempt at assassination will show in combat log

Works using any of my other hand held weapons singly or in a pair. it will work with a staff and bare hand as well.

Sadly assassinate won't work with the epee.

as has already been said, there is a bug. using turbulent epee (and a few other weapons) generates aggro before the assassinate attempt is resolved. you must qualify for sneak attack some other way instead. for example, you can bluff an enemy (if successful) or you can make sure you're attacking an enemy that someone else has already dealt damage to. deception weapons should also work, but are not exactly reliable (that is, you never know when they'll proc).

this bug is known on the forums. i have no idea if the devs have this on their radar, but i've seen it mentioned on the forums numerous times.

but basically... if you're in a group, and you target the same mobs as others in your group are attacking, you shouldn't run into any problems at all. if you can find someone who likes to gather big swarms and then cleave/great cleave, so much the better.
